First of all, I want to say that the people that said: "Bungie can't add armor to the disk." You were right. You can't but there is information that leads me to another way of us getting it.
If you don't know what the Defiant helmet is click me. You are probably wondering how this helmet was born well to find out click me. It also looks similar to the BoB character in Marathon. To view click me.
To more important matters. Major Nelson posted on his twitter and his personal blog about an Xbox 360 update preview about an Xbox 360 disc format. People who register for the preview will get a preview and a copy of Halo: Reach mailed to their house. To view it click me. Make sure you read everything on it.
IGN got an e-mail from Major Nelson saying that is it NOT an Blue-Ray disc update. To view it click me.
Here is my hypothesis; 343I made the Defiant helmet from the BoB characters from the Marathon series just because they wanted too. They did this with their special copy of Reach and a Dev Kit. As everyone knows, you can't update armor into the armory because it we would have to download a lot of data. So how do we get the helmet? Easy. Since Xbox is having this "Xbox 360 updated disc format" and giving out free Halo: Reach's to people that signed up for the preview. Now to get the armor, we have to be patient for the update. "What's wrong with my Halo: Reach? I don't want another." We may have to trade our copy for an different one. A copy that can be formated by the update to put in more armor!
For people that don't get the paragraph above.
Okay. To the Defiant helmet, we have to wait for the Xbox 360 update. I don't know when that will be. People that signed up for the preview of the update will get it and a copy of Halo: Reach that might have been formated and modified do to armory, glitches, and anything that might needed fixing. Once the update is LIVE ads about a new and improved Halo: Reach may be on the market. We may be able to trade our original disc for the improved disc. Get it now?
It makes since to me. Post your thoughts. If you have trouble figuring this out I will try to re-word it better.
My hypothesis is still in the air. We won't know anything until 2 maybe 3 weeks till the people that signed up for the preview say anything.
The problem is it's U.S. only from what I have read. Sorry UK. Onix, im going to be honest while you are right about the disc format it wouldn't make sense as there would be no use for it outside a new console as the current gen xbox might not be compatible with it and as such games made with this new format would be unplyable on the 360 (referring to what a disc drive can read and what it can't, ei. you cant use a blu-ray disc in a normal CD drive, the normal CD drive isnt coded to work with it and the drive is a separate software suite)
the reach gift is a "thanks for taking the time to sign up with this program" kind of thing, like a fruit basket
the best guess is the new format is to be used in conjunction with the new xbox that microsoft has planned for 2015
and a heads up those who sign up with the preview ARE NOT allowed to disclose information pertaining to the testing
its right there in the ToS when you go to sign up...its kinda why i opted out
you can't
talk about it with other people
post information about it on websites
take videos and/or pictures
the form also mentions updating the dashboard which might cause problems with people who like to hang in parties
but yeahtjhats the gist of the whole disc format
It's really a hypothesis. It does make since a little bit but from what you are saying, I don't know. I am not Microsoft. I think Microsoft has is ALWAYS making new technology for better systems.
OT: doesn't the article say this is new SOFTWARE, meaning that no one would need to trade in their Xbox, but if they download this new software they might have to trade in their Reach disk in with a new disk that is compatible with the new software. I wouldn't mind trading in my old disk for a new one, but I wonder if 343 would consider it worth it to make many more copies that they might have to give out for free if someone brings in an old Reach disk. Although it would make people really excited for the next Halo game/map pack/anything else 343 has up their sleeves.
