Not in a simple patch or update. Each map file in the game has all the content embedded in it. If we were to create new armor, it would either only be available in any new maps that get made after that point, or we would have to send out new map files of all the multiplayer and singleplayer maps and require about 9 GB of HD storage. This is economically not feasible.
Patches and updates do not work.
Replacement of all maps required = New game.

i know, i meant that as watch what you put, people are gonna use that to try and call you out, like i said, i actually used information gained from your post to use in my argument

Maybe the inclusion of this new helmet might be a precursor to Bungie producing some kind of armor DLC in the near future...and yes I understand about Bungie can't add new armor and whatnot but with a good patch adding armor is possible.

  • 02.15.2011 8:07 AM PDT

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery.

Ok. After reading every single one of these pages, I feel obligated to give my two cents.

First off, Let us stop comparing Downloadable Content and Armor. Like Shock said, if Armor is released through Downloadable Content, it will only be available on the maps that it was released with which brings about numerous disputes about linearity. Bungie is not going to make users download 9GB to incorporate new Armor through DLC. Tangibly, new maps are the only feature available for DLC (not counting permission files).

I strongly believe that the only remaining argument boils down to Disc Locked Content, meaning certain extras, bonuses, rewards, etc, all pertaining to new Armor. Some have said "Oh, hackers and modders found all possible Armor in the coding so nothing is going to happen," however, if it's in the game, it's in the game. Have the hackers and modders found Jorge's red visor, Kat's default chest piece with robotic arm, Jun's right shoulder knife, etc? This argument goes hand in hand with the fact that hackers have not been able to access the Flaming Helmet, Elite Officer permutation, or Recon Helmet w/ attachment. Every single one of you that refuted this has merely guessed that "hackers have found these special permissible files already". And although irrelevant, shouldn't the ranks Mythic through Inheritor be rewarded for putting such determination and time in the game with more unique/rare Armor? If I ever get to Inheritor, I don't want to look like your everyday General, I want to look like a fckn Inheritor.

Since Bnet is full of incompetence, immaturity, and idiocy, I would like to somehow figure out if a hacker, or ANY hacker for that matter, uncovered Bungie's Pre-order and Legendary Armor from delving into code.

Personally, I would love new (to the Armory) Armor. I'm optimistically rooting that Bungie is pulling a wildcard and surprising the community since all we have done since the release is complain and nag.

Once again, we know that new Armor cannot be downloaded. We know that there is Disc Locked Content (unless immaculately disproven) that requires certain permissions to be granted access to. We are trying to be optimistic (most of us), solely because new Armor is more Armor is cool Armor is ugly Armor is more unique Armor.

And above all, most importantly:

We know that this helmet isn't fckn EOD or GUNGNIR.

TL;DR - Read it.

Thanks for listening.

DLC maps are redundant to the entire game when adding content, each map is a self-contained world.

Armors, weapons, vehicles and other things are shared.

Is it real?!? is it a glitch???!!
Oh my god, OH MY GOD, NEW ARMOUR, NOEW ARMOUR ALL THE WAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

Im literally having heart palputation over this, it makes perfect sence, new armor made on new maps, i dont care if i can only use it on those maps but FINALLY.

It looks like a compact recon, the visor significantly slimmer, with an attachment similar to the default OPERATOR, you can also see the tubes alone the side ala halo 3 recon.
I've read tonnes of posts about DLC armor being impossible, but none say they cant do it for new maps, so new armor in new maps is just down right EPIC :D

Interesting to say the least. I mean it could just easily be photoshopped but it looks too "clean" so I have no idea where that could've come from O_O

if we do end up getting new armory updates, I will forever be impressed with Bungie.

Just been comparing helmets, the top is very similar to military police, its not though. It seems to have a tiny canistter poking out the top around the forehead on one side. There's only one helmet with a dark stripe like that and thats ODST, which looks nothing like the rest of the mystery helmet.

343 and affinity or infinity are doing these maps apparantly, figures lol. How else would new owners win the hearts of existing loyal fans other than to give them what they have always wanted?

'Sic vis pacem para bellum' (If you want peace, prepare for war.)

It's obviously a new helmet and probably a new chest piece.

More than likely, it's disc-locked content. Would be pretty sweet if there were a lot of disc-locked armor still left in the game.

I heard it takes about 9 million to purchased all the known armor in the game. Inheritor requires 20 million in credits. Seems like a lot to waste on nothing.
