I haven't played Reach in months (I bought BFBC2) but the second I saw that helmet in the pics I knew it wasn't an on-disc helmet. No helmet currently in the armory has the metallic top, silver bearings on the side, or the eyepiece looking thing by the visor.

People are saying that adding armor is impossible due to coding or something, but what if the Defiant map pack is a standalone mini expansion? That seems like it would make new armor available without actually adding onto the retail maps. And you could possibly import your previously purchased armors from the retail game. I dunno, it's just a theory.

Keep in mind I almost never quit, I just hate the fact there are over 6 different bans in the game, kind of leads me to think Bungie just enjoy punishing there fanbase.

this seems a little ridiculous to me, and i made a post suggesting the armour files were disguised as AA files

I know it does sound far-fetched, but if it's not possible to directly add armor to the game then it seems like it's a plausible idea. Your idea is certainly worth considering as well. Although we're all making theories based off the information we think we know. For all we know, Bungie/343 could easily add armor to the game and have just been keeping it a secret.

I really hope this is true, because we need a lot more armor customization, I'm already at 65% and It was achieved in less than 2 months.

Maybe there were already other helmets and armor perms created that Bungie simply hasn't released to the public yet? That does look like something new though.
The modding community would've ripped the disc to shreds and uploaded images online. If I had to guess, it's just a development build, where the adding things are a bit less troublesome.

I think you have the most logical conclusion. if it were in the game, some hacker would've found it by now, and given the demand for armor, Bungie would've exploited it through DLC add-ons already.
So my best guess is either
a) the hacking community failed
b) Bungie is missing out on a wonderful business oppurtunity
or c) its part of the developer's build of the game, and was ultimately not included alongside the rest if the armors for various reasons

Has anyone considered that 343 found a way to deliver armor without taking up as much disc space?

  • 02.15.2011 3:20 PM PDT

really

  • 02.15.2011 3:22 PM PDT

Good stuff, figured Bungie would have a few more secrets on their way. It is after all, their swan song. Theres something in this game that will make history for secrets, unlockables, etc. Conspiracies, Super secret stuff, its always been Bungie's best shananigans.

Nope. In no way is this Map Pack related to 343. Reach is still Bungie's baby and that hasn't changed despite what some of the haters out there might wish.

I have to say c. Bungie stated that they can't add anymore armor through DLC already, as for the hackers missing armor thats on the disc.....thats just dumb, they found every piece thats available in the armory atm, the chances that they missed some is ridiculous. You know the people that hacked the game went through every single file on the disc and if there were other perms on disc we would know about them

I'm having way too much fun with this thread :-D

If there is a new helmet and a new chest piece in the game, who knows what else is hiding behind it, can you say Hayabusa? And I saw a pic that a guy took of a hologram of an elite without any armor, could that be a new armor perm as well?

Bungie's said that THEY can't add more armor, but what about 343? or Affinity? Maybe they found a way around.
