GOML haha

Yeah it appears this is just the ODST helmet (the one I found) except the design of the picture in the OP looks very similar as if it uses the ODST base with a certain attachment we don't have available to us.

I dunno - that doesn't really look that close... Has the round things on the sides of the head, but...

so if all those images in the OP link to All armor were ripped form the disc by modders or whatever, and armor cannot be added, only Unlocked, why do we have recon UA/HUL[3] helmet unlockable but not ripped off the disc

Anyone? This is a good question.

Silly f.a.g.g.o.t! Dicks are for chicks!

Im not just advertising my own thread, but everyone should read the last comment, about tags

Here

to summarize. Each maps has tags, which are coded in.
Not every map has each tag, some use cross-referencing, to another map to use it's tags.
AR tag is only on one maps, each other one references it.
Add a new map, with a new armor, and have other maps reference.

Genius. You just blew my mind. 0.0

I wish b.net had emoticons :))

If Bungie could do this, then the possibilities are truly endless.

  • 02.17.2011 3:16 PM PDT

^^^, how do we know they didn't change the engine to this? They said in the trailers that they were throwing out their old equipment for more advanced stuff before Reach was even out.

Just saw this helmet on Buck in the New Alexandria mission. He has a white stripe on his.

Do you have pics or a movie? I have never even seen Buck in Reach, only heard his voice

Im still in the game right now. I guess I can save the film when Im done.
Edit: Whoever it is you drop off on the first side mission. I assumed it was Buck. Definitely the same helmet though.

REALLY!!!!!!
MAN I WANT TO LEVEL!

  • 02.17.2011 3:39 PM PDT

I want to clear up a few terms here. I have read every page of this thread the last few days, not a post has gone unchecked. Somethings I'm about to go over ARE in fact restatements of things others have said, but none the less need to be stated again.

The first thing every intelligent person in this thread can agree on is this: The helmet and chest piece we see in these pictures have never been seen before. Not in Reach, Halo 3, and as far as I can tell, not in any Bungie title, unlike some other armor (security).

The second thing we can agree on is that the ONLY spartan to have armor other then default is the fancy British one with this monocle and necklace. This points out one very clear thing for me: they did that on purpose so people could find it, and create 2k+ post threads. That's a free ad right there, better then something you'll see on the sidebar of Facebook. It's the same thing that Bungie did with they're ODST interview videos. One person finds this site, another person finds the code, and now 10k posts later, people are more excited for the game. That's all we're seeing, just in a lower scale.

But now the question begs, where did this armor come from? Some people seem to think that it's and old build of the game, and the armor is cut. First off that's near impossible. Why make a map pack for a finished game, but base it off old code? For the map pack would not work on the current build of the game. Secondly, the dev (Certain Affinity) would not even have access to any other build. Thirdly, the building of the map pack began after release, unlike Noble. So this cannot be the answer.

So that leaves the possibility of it being hidden on the disk, or being downloaded. Before I get into this, let me say I did not code Reach in any way shape or form, so I do not know the capabilities of the engine fully. What I DO understand is general game design, and how to find things in the "code", which is really just a file directory.

In my opinion, I think the new armor is going to be in a download. And that is because I cannot find it on the disk. Now I'm sure people that disagree with me are getting ready to pull out the old "Disk Locked", or "Otto Said balh blah". Here is my rebuttal. It is called "Data Mining".

The difference between modding and data mining is that modders just set their credits to 9999999999 and boot up the game. Data mining is the act of looking the games code for things not easily seen on-game.

I did not mod my x-box to unlock everything like you may think. Oh no. I'm using a modded version of a program called "MyWarcraftStudio". This allows anyone to enter the file system of the game "World of Warcraft", and then fiddle with them as such. I used to make mods for the game, oh, 3 years ago I think, towards the end of BC. This is besides the point.

Using the program, I inserted a Reach disk, and was able to begin to browse the folders. I found folders for every piece of armor, the corresponding attachments, and armor effects. Including UA chest, Officer, Flames, and Bungie Blue Flames. I did not find anything that I could not identify. While it is not impossible I my have missed anything that is still hidden on this disk, however if I did, there is not much more to come. This leads me to why I believe the armor will be downloaded: simple fan cry out.

We begged all halo 3 long for Blood Gulch. We got it. We begged since Halo CE for pelicans. We got it, even if it is hidden. We cried to nerf the BR, and yes, we got it. And one of our biggest pleas was for new armor. Why oh why oh why would they not incorporate this into a game that they basically re-built from the ground up? Especially when the focus on a vast armory for the players is one of the main focus points of the game?

Now I'm sure a bunch of you that pulled out your other arguments are saying right now that new armor would only be used in the new maps. To think that this could not be fixed with a simple title update would be so naive that it may warrant and IQ test.

So ion short, due to me not finding it while physically scrolling through code, the large outcry for it, the simplicity and likelihood of an updated armory system, and the shear near impossibility of a new map being build off an old system, I must come to the conclusion that the most likely outcome is that the code for the new armor's visuals will be beamed to my Xbox when the pack comes out, and the code for wearing it will be beamed when I buy the maps.

If you made it this far, thank you.

The proof is everywhere people, a ton of armor in-game that we can't use in MM. It could be DLC. The creators could have changed their engine since Halo 3. This is the fastest growing thread on Bnet, yet Bungie hasn't responded. Otto has said that it would be very hard, but he has been wrong before.

Hmm. maybe a theory. Taking a closer look at the armor, it bears somewhat of a resemblence to EOD. Perhaps it's an already existing attatchment to it that's hidden? I don't know. I'm just speculating here. I'm not saying it's EOD or anything. I'm sayin g it could be a attachment. maube a mix of them.

I read your whole post (as well as every page of this thread, as well) but what I've quoted is what I was waiting for. as long as you are trustworthy you've proven to me that this armor is going to have to be downloaded to be attained at all. Since I don't have the technical prowess/tools at my disposal I was unable to enter the disk locked content argument, but this ends it.

I however, don't think it will be part of the map pack. maybe as a title update simultaneous to the map packs release, or a random patch. My bet is on the fact that a while back, when the whole 59/59 achievements screen-shot was shown, they had already started baiting us. I didn't realize that noble DLC only brought it to 56, and dismissed the screen shot. however, with more confirmed achievements with the defiant pack (yes most likely more than 59) Maybe they plan to have some of these unlockable in pre-planned vidmaster-esque achievements, not relating to the DLC but released at the same time. (or they could be marketing douches and have the achievements to unlock the armor DLC required)

I know NOTHING about coding, so tell me if I'm wrong... but..

Can't you name something different? For example, if they wanted to hide Blue flames in the coding, couldn't they call it something completely different than what it is, to make people searching for it completely ignore it? IF this is possible, they may have done this. o.O
