I personally think it's the Millitary one that you get from waypoint.

I think we're getting new armor. This topic has over 2k posts, if it wasn't gonna happen, you'd think Bungie woulda posted explaining how it can't be done by now.

The stupid... It's contagious, my I.Q. is dropping by the second.

Name's WIlliam,

For the love of God it's pronounced mister-shag, not misters-hag.

Idea: what if the armor was hidden inside Halo Waypoint somehow, and instead of Reach getting the update that allows people to have armor, Waypoint would get the armor? I guess what I'm saying is this:

What if Waypoint could distribute armor to Halo Reach somehow? Perhaps getting the Defiant Map Pack achievements could unlock the armor through Waypoint?

I know it's painful. It's as if people have never seen the actual helmets they speak of.

Nevermind the comparison pic people do (in vain).
Com'on, if your going to join a discussion, at least catch up.

I think xXdr00dXx makes a good point, this thread is practically free advertising for new armor. Well played Bungie.

The only catch is that is it could be viral marketing for only a map pack. And never had intentions of making armor.

Wow, that's what I call multi-tasking, playing Reach and posting on the forums, nice[/quote]

GOML haha

Yeah it appears this is just the ODST helmet (the one I found) except the design of the picture in the OP looks very similar as if it uses the ODST base with a certain attachment we don't have available to us.

I dunno - that doesn't really look that close... Has the round things on the sides of the head, but...

EDIT: Comparison Pic

Definitely not, but good try, we need to present all of the evidence we can.

Its kind of close-similar-ish-ness-ic... No?!

Haha sorry guys. I tried.

Nice comparison pic btw... I didn't even post that screenshot here and you went and found it in my recents. A+ for effort!

@mistershag

That thread has been referenced to a bunch of times, in THIS thread.

So I was implying to read This thread, before posting in this thread.

The link itself was just on topic of what you spoke of.

Welcome to the internet. Joy dies here.

As far as being Disc Locked, the file itself doesn't need to be on the disc - just a tag or a reference to it that's unused. Xbox is just a glorified windows pc. The hard drive is just as accessible to games as the disc they originate on. Some developers will avoid restricting their DLC to people with big HDDs but Reach won't even run completely on the 4 gb xbox. They'll release a patch a day or so before the map pack releases containing the files for any new content (other than the maps themselves), and raising a flag to load the files when the game boots.

I typically don't click links, seen to many bad links on here. I don't even check where they link to normally.

Anyways I understand that Waypoint only gives you a key that unlocks the armor in Reach, but what if Waypoint received a significant upgrade? Once the map pack comes out, perhaps a Waypoint upgrade would give it the ability to distribute armor?

I wonder how many posts this thread will get before Defiant comes out.

At the VERY VERY least, this screenshot has tested the community, and whether it's worth making new armor.

It's sad that only crying can get what we want.

MORE ARMOR MORE MORE.... ya u guys got the point

This seems most plausible.

I want to clear up a few terms here. I have read every page of this thread the last few days, not a post has gone unchecked. Somethings I'm about to go over ARE in fact restatements of things others have said, but none the less need to be stated again.

The first thing every intelligent person in this thread can agree on is this: The helmet and chest piece we see in these pictures have never been seen before. Not in Reach, Halo 3, and as far as I can tell, not in any Bungie title, unlike some other armor (security).

The second thing we can agree on is that the ONLY spartan to have armor other then default is the fancy British one with this monocle and necklace. This points out one very clear thing for me: they did that on purpose so people could find it, and create 2k+ post threads. That's a free ad right there, better then something you'll see on the sidebar of Facebook. It's the same thing that Bungie did with they're ODST interview videos. One person finds this site, another person finds the code, and now 10k posts later, people are more excited for the game. That's all we're seeing, just in a lower scale.

But now the question begs, where did this armor come from? Some people seem to think that it's and old build of the game, and the armor is cut. First off that's near impossible. Why make a map pack for a finished game, but base it off old code? For the map pack would not work on the current build of the game. Secondly, the dev (Certain Affinity) would not even have access to any other build. Thirdly, the building of the map pack began after release, unlike Noble. So this cannot be the answer.

So that leaves the possibility of it being hidden on the disk, or being downloaded. Before I get into this, let me say I did not code Reach in any way shape or form, so I do not know the capabilities of the engine fully. What I DO understand is general game design, and how to find things in the "code", which is really just a file directory.

In my opinion, I think the new armor is going to be in a download. And that is because I cannot find it on the disk. Now I'm sure people that disagree with me are getting ready to pull out the old "Disk Locked", or "Otto Said balh blah". Here is my rebuttal. It is called "Data Mining".

I did not mod my x-box to unlock everything like you may think. Oh no. I'm using a modded version of a program called "MyWarcraftStudio". This allows anyone to enter the file system of the game "World of Warcraft", and then fiddle with them as such. I used to make mods for the game, oh, 3 years ago I think, towards the end of BC. This is besides the point.

Using the program, I inserted a Reach disk, and was able to begin to brows the folders. I found folders for every piece of armor, the corresponding attachments, and armor effects. Including UA chest, Officer, Flames, and Bungie Blue Flames. I did not find anything that I could not identify. While it is not impossible I my have missed anything that is still hidden on this disk, however if I did, there is not much more to come. This leads me to why I believe the armor will be downloaded: simple fan cry out.

We begged all halo 3 long for Blood Gulch. We got it. We begged since Halo CE for pelicans. We got it, even if it is hidden. We cried to nerf the BR, and yes, we got it. And one of our biggest pleas was for new armor. Why oh why oh why would they not incorporate this into a game that they basically re-build from the ground up? Especially when the focus on a vast armory for the players is one of the main focus points of the game?

Now I'm sure a bunch of you that pulled out your other arguments are saying right now that new armor would only be used in the new maps. To think that this could not be fixed with a simple title update would be so naive that it may warrant and IQ test.

So ion short, due to me not finding it while physically scrolling through code, the large outcry for it, the simplicity and likelihood of an updated armory system, and the shear near impossibility of a new map being build off an old system, I must come to the conclusion that the most likely outcome is that the code for the new armor's visuals will be beamed to my Xbox when the pack comes out, and the code for wearing it will be beamed when I buy the maps.

If you made it this far, thank you.

Wow, you've certainly done your research, I respect that. You deserve a cookie (::)

I know NOTHING about coding, so tell me if I'm wrong... but..

Can't you name something different? For example, if they wanted to hide Blue flames in the coding, couldn't they call it something completely different than what it is, to make people searching for it completely ignore it? IF this is possible, they may have done this. o.O

Yes. indeed that is possible. However you have to remember that there's no point, because 99.9999% of the user base will ever see any code, only devs will. Why bother confusing other programmers on the project with confusing, misleading names.

MIKE: Hey Bob, where's the forklift model?

BOB: Oh, I named it BIRD_ANIM_VER_ONE.

MIKE: Why?

BOB: To hide it from people looking for it? Duh?

MIKE: You're fired.

There's nothing in it for them really. If anything it over complicates the process of building the game. Sure they could re-name it later, but that would involve re-routing tech-trees and paths so everything goes to the correct file, which in a full game is another week of work that's only there to hide secrets. They don't care that much.

no helmet nor attachment to a helmet has those metal discs on the side of the head!! i looked thru them all (i have 90% of the helmets excluding a afew attach's i can see and security and eva(c)) and none or their attachments have that crap! theyve been playing with the servers as if they are bout to do an update!! As for the hating and confusion with 343! i wish ppl would stfu and research before they talk!! its mainly old bungie ppl! its in very capable and deserving hands!
