I'll tear you a new one...
At this point, it is pretty obvious to the more reasonable people on these forums that the armor permutation here is new. It is very clearly a part of a viral marketing strategy, which is definitely succeeding (judging by the 800+ responses on this thread alone).
Bungie has dropped hints here and there saying there could be "more" waiting to be unlocked. It is not at all unlikely that they did not include more armor permutations in the disc. People will claim that hackers would have found them already, but that's obviously wrong. Have you seen people hacking the custom armor belonging to Noble Team (Jorge's red visor, Kat's custom chest & helmet, and Jun's arm knife)? No, you haven't. Nor have you seen people hacking the flaming helmet, the Recon helmet with supplementary plating, or the elite officer armor.
If you can't agree about this by now, then I am afraid to say that you are fairly dense.
Now that we've established that much, I have a question about all this:
How high of a rank do you think a player would have to be in order to purchase the new permutations from the armory? If it's anything higher than a General (which seems the most logical initially), then this armor won't even be accessible to the vast majority of Halo players anyway. However, I would also imagine that there would be some armor for lower ranks as well. I can't really figure out this particular aspect of the whole thing.
