The Arbiter- exposed the problems/corruption/lies in the Covenant that were spread by the hierarchy/Prophets to control/convince the Covenant to unite and fight against the humans. This caused the Elites to split off and rebel against the Covenant, which resulted in a violent "purging" of the Elites on High Charity and other mixed-race (religion metaphor) Covenant positions.

Martin Luther- exposed the problems/corruption/lies in the Christian Church (back then) that were spread by the Clergy in order to control/scam the masses and caused (what are now called Protestants) to split off and rebel against Christianity, which was violent for some time and resulted in the Catholic Church trying to purge all Lutherans.

So, what do you think? Do you think this is intentional, or just a coincidence? I just thought of this because of a lot of the religious metaphors that are in Halo.

The purging of the Elites didn't happen after they splintered off. They were being killed off before the truth came out.

I thought there was just some bad blood (and a few murders) between the Brutes and Elites after the Brutes replaced the Elites, but it only erupted into open conflict after they split off?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Ya know, I don't understand why the Elites trusted the Prophets. They are such a fragile race. They could have easily destroyed them. I don't understand why the Prophets gained so much power.

The Prophets had the Forerunner Dreadnaught. That thing decimated Elite ships and brought the war to a standstill.

The problems Luther rebelled against were mainly about corruption in the church. He founded his sect on following the bible without all the vatican worshipping. The Arbiter, on the other hand, disproved the very core of the Covenant religion, the Great Journey. It's akin to Luther proving that Jesus wasn't the son of god. When it comes to religion, the Arbiter's closer to an atheist.

This is a good way to put it.

There is a huge difference between translating the bible into languages other than latin and pointing out the then corrupt practices of the Catholic Church, and undermining the entire unifying concept of a religion.
