Subject: Halo MMO: why not?

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

I've seen many conversations about the dead Ensemble project, and plenty of stuff before we knew what Reach really was. But why the hate? So many seem to be set against any sort of Halo MMO. Here, I'll analyze arguments I've seen against a Halo MMO. I'll try to get to any responses you guys put out there too.
1. RPG- There are so many people out there against Halo stepping into this genre. I enjoy both RPG's and FPS's fairly equally, but I understand qhy some people wouldn't like it. But who said an MMO must be an RPG? Or even a crossover between shooters and RPG's? Unlike the Ensemble project, the game wouldn't have to play like WoW.

2. Pay to Play- This is an area I can't argue. We all know Micro$oft would make it subscription based.

3. PC - Many people are against PC gaming. For those who can't afford some of the heavier costs, I understand. But there are also those who complain and they've never played PC shooters. I'm okay with it when people legitimately dislike keyboard and mouse, but if you won't try PC gaming you're one of those idiot kids I see around. I hate to use "adapt" after all the rage in the Reach forums, but I think it applies nicely here.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I'd love to see it and I'd love to play it on PC.

Yes, I wouldn't mind seeing this at all, I think it would be great on the PC as well to.

Realistically the story wouldn't make any sense in 2552. If your playing as a human you would be be a marine, ODST or Spartan all of which are military personnel. They have a chain of command and for the most part decisions are made for them. Same applies to the Covies. Their would be no freedom and the freedom to explore and make your own decisions is essential to an RPG. However, if the game was set during the Forerunner reign there would be more room to create a galaxy for exploration and choices while maintaining reasonable situations.

Online Gaming's pretty much like a zombie movie. There are a lot of mindless idiots roaming around but you find some survivors on the way.

Yes a good point made there. How would the class system work as well? Classes in an MMO are vital to gameplay. Even if there were some sort of class system I would have no idea how it would work for the covenant. For the UNSC there would probably be ODST spartan and pilot probably, but i can just see everyone going for spartan. Maybe if this MMO was based on the **SPOILERS FOR CRYPTUM**

...human/forerunner war that would work maybe.

...You have to realize, they don't the Halo brand anymore. I would expect this to be a whole new universe. Although it would probably be along the same vein of universe as Halo.
Marathon was directly related to the Halo universe so I would imagine we would see something like that. A "sibling" world to the halo world, and a new game type

Dust 514 begs to differ.

Again, it wouldn't have to be an RPG, though most MMO's are. Besides, if you didn't play it there would be no effect on your "fun of halo".

I would do another year in Iraq just for a game like this. I've dreamt about it since 2001. I wish I could make them understand just how badly I want this to be real. Lol.

No thanks. I seen some of the artwork for that.

JDCHAN

would have to be as the Halo FPS is now but just in a persistent world with real-time world events. WoW based Character Progression would not be the way either. Ewww

well i own all the halos though i only play halo reach now since it is the newest and most popular. halo 3 however was my favorite but now i never play it. unless at least over 40,000 ppl still play reach by then i would quit halo.

I would play it unless it gets to MoH airborne bad. That game was truly dead when I rented it.

It wouldn't make much sense to be set within the Human-Covenant war, but maybe it could be set within the Covenant itself before the wat. Then the races would be San' Shyuum (Prophet), Sangheili (Elite), Jiralhanae (Brute), Kig-Yar (Jackal/Skirmisher) and Unggoy (Grunt). The other races could be in the game but not playable. Then you could choose occupation, you would start off with some lowly job and then slowly work your way up. Each race would have advantages and disadvantages, and say someone had been an Elite for a while they could start to lead Grunts who have just joined te game. The main enemies could be some kind of heretic, and then there could be wild animals and maybe some other sentient beings that have not joined the Covenant.

I remember reading somewhere that there was one planned, and it included some kind of humanoid species with telekinetic abilities. I stopped wanting it there.

  • 02.18.2011 12:58 AM PDT

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

I'd imagine that the telekinetic abilities were just bleed over from their "inspiration". One screenie clearly shows WOW's display.

  • 02.26.2011 7:16 PM PDT

No new games, catching up with the world, and filling it with the name of SpazDragon, the dragon with a spas-12.

I think an MMO should be based 50 years after the Human-Covenant, right after the whole Museum of Humanity being built. It would feel fresh if they had a new enemy to fight other than just Flood and Covenant.

Also, I would play a Sangheili because they Kick @$$. I'm used to playing on PC anyway.

Oh, and IF they make it, I want to see some female Elites. it feels missing in the Halo Universe after only showing them once.

  • 02.26.2011 7:25 PM PDT

Don't -blam!- with Kerser!
