Yes I am British, I like tea, I like crumpets, and I am going to kick your ass!

Where did they come from? Were they some Forerunner genetic experiment gone wrong? Did they have a homeworld? I'm just curious.

P.S. I mean the Flood from Halo, not people who use the Flood forum, lol.

Woah wait, "Precursors" who the hell are they?

the race that existed before the forerunners. I think they might have created the forerunners, but the forerunners killed them all off and as pay back the precursors built ships filled with the flood that would fly to forerunner colonies.

The Forerunners were an artificial species? Why didn't the Precursors use like a Halo ring instead to kill the Forerunners? If they were going to die anyway.

they weren't artificial the precursors genetically created them. that or changed the evolutionary track of another species. The forerunners eventually turned on the precursors and killed them all.

Why did the Forerunners turn on them?

Prepare to be mind -blam!-:

Precursors: a super race of technological gods that are at one with the universe.

They create the Forerunners and evidently humanity. We are brothers with the Forerunners.

Forerunners, using the only technology that can harm Precursors (Neural Weaponry) destroy the Precursors in this galaxy and take over.

One Precursor is left behind.

The Precursors, as revenge, (because the Forerunners are not the rightful heir to the Mantle, we are) send the Flood to destroy the Forerunners. Unfortunately, humanity's interstellar empire catches it first, and we are deevolved by both them and the Forerunners in a two sided war.

The Precursor left behind, or Captive, is several hundred million years old, and is the one who knows about the Flood.

It is highly likely this Precursor will become what we so lovingly call the Gravemind.

Now, read Halo: Cryptum to be even more mind -blam!-. I'm outta time here, so cant explain more.

But why would the precursors prison the timeless one?

@roberto

The thhing that precursors and the universe are one probably explains the reason why gravemind can't die.

Transsentient beings FTW

Wait a sec, the last Precursor became a Gravemind? How did he make the infection? Was it through gene splicing? And how did he get enough biomass?

I was wondering why the Prisoner was imprisoned myself. What if the Prisoner objected to the Precurser's plan to exact revenge on the Forerunner using the Flood knowing it would destroy other forms of life in the process? After all, if we are to believe the Mantle was a Precurser concept passed down to the Forerunner, or stolen, then we can assume they as a species held similar moral beliefs, to preserve and safeguard life first and foremost. So the Prisoner may have objected and tried to stop the creation of the Flood and was therefore imprisoned, in what is noted to be Precurser tech., and left to die or bear witness to this galaxy's destruction. That is all just speculation of course, I just thought it was interesting that he was imprisoned instead of killed, as the Forerunner were said to slaughter the Precurser, and that he was held captive by Precurser technology, which apparently only Precuser could wield.
