It has come to my attention that the modern day video game is halo. Why halo you may ask? Bungie has been extremely kind to us over the years and have helped us cope with the times by adding new content to the halo universe.
I was only seven years of age when I first started playing halo with my older brothers. It was here that i experienced what almost every single gamer experienced when they first started. Something fun and easy to play. It was with Halo:CE that i became and fan and a few years later Halo 2 came out. By now I had received my very own Xbox and created a live account just so i could take my skills online. To this day I still believe that Halo 2 is the greatest online game ever. Everything was perfect and i spent much of my summers playing it. Halo 2 had something special however, it had Download-able content; perhaps the greatest part to be given to a halo 2. Maps galore came and with it new ways of playing and one an awesome train map(Terminal). Of coarse we waited many years later to finally finish the epic campaign of master chief with halo 3. Unfortunately I had to cough up the money for a xbox 360, but it was well worth it for halo.
Halo 3 had a similar online to halo 2, but I felt like it was missing what halo 2 had; after much debate with friends we felt it was the need for more which changed the game. More weapons, more armor (Greatest Part of Halo 3), bigger maps, more online game types, more features(Theater and Forge). Its not that the idea of more made halo 3 bad, Halo 3 is still one of my top 10 xbox 360 games; It's just that so much was given to halo at once that it gave us options to do other stuff then online. For me its all about the online experience and I lost many friends to forging of maps that I had barley and friends to play online with and i became a lone wolf. Halo 2 in my mind was about kicking back and having fun, with halo 3 it was about forging and being competitive online. Halo 3 wasn't bad because of it's competitive play it was that which brought me to MLG and T-bagging. The zombie game type was a huge part of halo 3 as well it took the idea from halo 2 and boasted it to make you switch when being killed instead of the old yell at the person tell they changed over to zombies. Halo 3's DLC wasn't bad either it had a verity of awesome maps and even a map dedicated to forge fans.
Fast forward a few more years and we are giving Halo: Reach. To me Halo:Reach is Halo, sure it might not be my favorite but it combined what halo 2 had that was great and what halo 3 had to be a masterpiece of competitive and relaxing game play. For those MLG types there is the Arena and for those looking for fun they had firefight (the classic idea from Halo 3 ODST), and new modes like Invasion. It even throws in a assortment of armors so we can all be unique. The campaign is always good and for some its all about the campaign and is partially why I bought halo 3: ODST a year before because its campaign was awesome. Now that we have seen the DLC reach has to offer we are shown more in the next few weeks we will be given the chance to buy the new DLC. This time we will be given a firefight map and 2 more multiplayer maps Showing once again that bungie hasn't forgotten about us and that even though it's their last game they still haven't run out of fresh ideas and content to give us.
So I ask you this. What maps a game a true legend is it the game play? The Story? I believe it is the content. That is why Halo is the definitive game of our generation and that's why people keep coming back. After seeing the trailer for the upcoming Defiant DLC I put Halo:Reach in my xbox and left the world of Call of Duty, its why halo is my favorite. Thank you bungie and keep the new content rolling for years to come.
Now readers, tell me the reason why you love Halo.
