Bungie is terrible at portraying scale.

Even in reach, where there are supposedly hundreds upon hundreds of ships, we only ever see maybe 15 for 2 seconds.
I have to agree with this post. Bungie tries to create vast battles of hundred of ships and enemies, but all we ever get is small, quad-like battles, and no Man vs. Army encounters. On top of that, the sheer ratio of humanity to covenant is not shown as frightening as it should.

Except the opening scene of Halo 2 where you see hundreds of cruisers,if you pay attention then you see a massive sense purple could around high charity, the purple cloud is probably the massive covenant fleet.

No you don't see two-three ships fly past and about maybe five at most ODPs. The Xbox can only display so much before you start entering meltdown territory. And most of the stuff you see in Halo 2 is background affect, meaning little blobs vaguely shaped like what they're supposed to be up close, and they wouldn't really have worked for the scenes above the Artifact.

If you watch the first cutseen in rats nest commander keys tell chef that truth fleet destroyed what was left of the home fleet. Those ships just go lucky and survived. Thoses where that last ships the Unsc had. The reason for why they did not follow is because the flood and brutes were still on earth and they wanted to fight them off to end the war
No, they kept the ships there to defend against the supposed Flood Army headed to Earth.
