THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.

But I am worried how this will compete with WoW.

It's not WoW in space. That's a start...

true that lol

I know it hasn't been mentioned, but I swear, if there are additional fees involved in the way of monthly or even yearly subscriptions, I'm not touching this game. It's already close to spoiling my "No MMOs? No addiction!" rule from the sounds of things.

I am glad its not WoW in space but I just don't want this to be APB all over again. I hope it might be something like Global Agenda. Also, MMO's outside PC's can get a little hairy.

yea, really though, if Bungie is going to continue with putting the game on consoles, i really doubt that there would be monthly fees for the game, along side xbox live, seems too complicated, im sure bungie knows that, id almost relate this, not to WoW (as Dave adlridge said "the title is not 'WoW in space'" but id relate to something like starcraft, moeny wise, because blizzard still has immense support for starcraft and the game actually comes w/ no monthly fees, id think bungie would go taht route w/ this

3 words for you:

Phantasy Star Universe.

They did monthly subscriptions (about £15 or something ridiculous if I remember) on top of XBL. Complete rip-off.

I think everybody might be jumping at shadows here, It's probably best to reserve judgement until Bungie chimes in. Too many "anonymous sources" are being cited for me.

I wonder how they are going to bring this up in the BWU, I hope they do, but knowing Bungie they probably won't.

As wonderful as it would be for their next game to come out this year, it's not happening. No chance in hell.

Unless they pull another miracle. Or they have been working on it for like 5 years under our noses.

I believe it has been in developement since 2007 after Halo 3 was made.

That might explain why they half-assed two games that had real potential. I hope this MMO is REALLY freaking good.

Bungie, not anonymous, confirmed that there next game was a MMO @ GDC today, IGN reported it, I linked there report at the top of my newly edited Original Post, that says "News Flash", under that, was previous speculation, regarding and then not regarding random sources.
Despite lower part of the OP speculation, which for the most part concluded that there next game was a MMO, it is true and confirmed by Bungie, that there next game is not titled "WoW in space" and that there next game will be a MMO. Further in that post, I give my own opinion on what I think Aerospace is and it's relation to "whatever" Bungie's next game would be, saying that I think it's probably going to be a promotional site.

Just to clear things up, lol

Top of the thread is updated with the confirmation by Bungie themselves that there next game will be a MMO

Below that the thread is of speculation of news floating around, and my own opinion of what I think Aerospace is and how it relates to their next project.

Unless they pull another miracle. Or they have been working on it for like 5 years under our noses.

This is our latest update on the progress of their project. It came from an interview with Brian Jarrard back in May 2010.
How far down the line are you in terms of creating the new IP?
I'll walk you through the timeline a little bit and give you some perspective. Bungie became independent from Microsoft back in 2007. At that time we already had plans in the works to do Halo: ODST as well as Halo: Reach and those projects were in the works almost simultaneously.

But, beyond that we also knew that once Halo: Reach was completed, we'd have the creative freedom and opportunity to embark on our next big universe and to try something new and original. Initial brainstorming and work started honestly even back then. Jason Jones, one of the co-founders of our studio and the sort of core team that worked on the Halo Universe and worked on Combat Evolved have been working pretty steadily on working out and defining what our next universe and IP will actually entail.

I'd say more over the past year there's been more significant headway, because we began talking to publishing partners - and we needed a real plan, some real substance to be able to go out and speak to people on. To try and get a publisher to commit to a ten-year vision obviously requires a little bit more than just a great track record.

We need to have some proof and really be able to show that this universe is going to be awesome - and the types of stories and experiences we can deliver within it.

So where we are at this point? It's safe to say that we're now formally in a pre-production role. The vast majority of our studio is definitely 100 per cent focused on Halo Reach. We've obviously launched the beta and then we've got a lot of work to go between now and the Fall - we don't want to lose sight of that.

We very much want to ensure we live up to our promise of Reach being Bungie's best game yet and our defining Halo title. But once Reach is complete, we'd like to have our next universe and projects in a state where the bulk of our team can move into production on our next game in a very efficient manner. It's a very exciting time. Month after month there more and more momentum being picked up.

Have you got something internally that's playable?
We've been doing all sorts of different explorations on technology and different types of experiences. We have a lot of representative work we have already done. It's a tremendous undertaking to try and figure out what it will take to build a universe that we think will really exist and be compelling for ten years - and how to extend that to different platforms and devices.

There's been a lot of technology discussions, a lot of engineering work, a lot of incredible artwork, a lot of story work. We obviously had enough of a compelling representation of our vision to entice and excite Activision so much that they were willing to take this big leap and make this kind of a commitment as well.

So no. Unless Bungie's newest studio is home to magical little elves that code your next big title at Night when nobody is around, there won't be any miracles.

IIRC, it was mentioned just after Halo 3 came out that they had a small team working on a new IP during the development of Halo 3. Obviously pre-pre-production stuff(could've been just brain storming and playing around with ideas), but it has been in the works for a while.

Don't think it will be out this year though.

I breathe BR, not kidding homie.

for some reason this got me actually kinda excited lol, not just the fact that its a MMO, but the fact Bungie has finally adressed a new game, it seem like people always tend to love the first, original product in things, like Halo:CE or I could even use the example of 50 Cent's first album, usually not always, the first is best, because there are no limits of expression, nothing holding back the developer in what they make, after that, if they make a sequel they then have to make it within it's own boundaries or in the context of what players want for the game, and thus get locked, Halo's a good example, Bungie can only go so far in what they were trying to do with Halo because it had been locked in place by fans, like, something like Armor Abilities was really pushing it for the Halo Franchise in a way, and then agian its really not even all that, but just teh idea of something new, and that Bungie has the freedom to create whatever they want with this game with any pre-consenting like, guidlines of what the gaame should be.

And even more then that, I think this game is going to be a very big step for Bungie, really, after theyre partnership w/ Microsoft in 2000, Bungie has only made Halo games, I think theyre really going to grow w/ something like this, it'll be their first new game since the Halo franchise, and i'm sure the team over @ Bungie is really going to push it on this game, to show what they got.

Guess we just have to wait, either way, should be crazy lol.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

From the words he's used, it almost sounds like that was a little under a year ago. I'm sure they've gotten rather far along in that time span. Considering it went from a small group of people, the move, then the entire studio working on the new IP.

This is exciting, though I really do hope they give us an option to not have to pay to play. Giving us a "Single Player" option, would be awesome.

I was referring more to the speculation on the whole online fee issue than whether or not it was an MMO. I understand Bungie confirmed it, but I prefer to have more details than just the genre before speculating. I realize it's not really speculating then, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.
