I think everybody might be jumping at shadows here, It's probably best to reserve judgement until Bungie chimes in. Too many "anonymous sources" are being cited for me.

Bungie, not anonymous, confirmed that there next game was a MMO @ GDC today, IGN reported it, I linked there report at the top of my newly edited Original Post, that says "News Flash", under that, was previous speculation, regarding and then not regarding random sources.
Despite lower part of the OP speculation, which for the most part concluded that there next game was a MMO, it is true and confirmed by Bungie, that there next game is not titled "WoW in space" and that there next game will be a MMO. Further in that post, I give my own opinion on what I think Aerospace is and it's relation to "whatever" Bungie's next game would be, saying that I think it's probably going to be a promotional site.

Just to clear things up, lol

Top of the thread is updated with the confirmation by Bungie themselves that there next game will be a MMO

Below that the thread is of speculation of news floating around, and my own opinion of what I think Aerospace is and how it relates to their next project.

I was referring more to the speculation on the whole online fee issue than whether or not it was an MMO. I understand Bungie confirmed it, but I prefer to have more details than just the genre before speculating. I realize it's not really speculating then, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.

o....lol
yea, thouhgt u were talking about it being an MMO lol, but yea, for actually pricing, we w8 for bungie to say, but imo, i really doubt bungie would make any sort of monthly fee, especialy if there going to put it on consoles

That's my error, looking back I realize how my post could be easily misinterpreted. I want to agree, it seems unlikely that Bungie woulld do any sort of fee, especially if it's on consoles, but I suppose anything is possible.

IIRC, it was mentioned just after Halo 3 came out that they had a small team working on a new IP during the development of Halo 3. Obviously pre-pre-production stuff(could've been just brain storming and playing around with ideas), but it has been in the works for a while.

I remember the same. Specifically because Jason Jones wasn't credited for doing any work on Halo 3 and I wondered where he was; then they mentioned that he and a "small core team" had already been working on the new IP.

Given that engineering didn't start until last year apparently though, I can't see this coming out this year either.

This makes the move to Activision make a bit more sense to me. It would be stressful enough to work on a new game funded entirely by your last game, but throw in the server requirements for running an MMO plus the fact that an MMO must pull in a lot of users on launch -- so advertising must be there -- and I can see why they didn't want to go it alone.

An MMO makes sense for an independent studio, though. They're kind of the holy grail of gaming, since they bring in recurring revenue. (Well, assuming a subscription fee). I hope that any subscription fee is reasonable, though. I could afford $5/mo, possibly $10/m, but anything more than that and I might have to bow out.

One thing's for sure, though: Bungie had better break their policy of no public demos. If they expect me to cough up $60 plus monthly without even trying it, there are going to be problems.

Maybe they could have an F2P version of the game, and limit you to rocks and sticks, while everybody who pays for the game get's super robot dragon guns!

>_>

<_<

On second thought... yeah... I really hope this game doesn't have any sort of that flashy garbage.

Ah, right, I forgot about that. I did sign up for it. But a beta and a demo aren't quite the same thing; a beta is expected to have bugs and other issues affecting the experience, and a demo should be a fully polished exhibit of the game at its best. Not to mention the fact that a beta ends once the game is release, so there will always be a relatively small pool of users. A beta would continue being available after the game has released, so it would show you the real experience. In my mind, a demo of an MMO would basically be a small amount of free gameplay... say, 5 hours and then it expires, for example.

The beta test brings up a good point, though. I don't remember if they discussed distribution, but the easiest way to distribute a beta is as a download. If they did that, I wonder if it would continue as an option for the full game.

Awesome! Looking forward to it. Wait, will it be on XBox 360?

They confirmed in an interview last summer that it would be at least be for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

It's probable that it will be for Computers as well.
That's good then because I would be disappointed if it were only for the PS3.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. A beta certainly doesn't take the place of a demo, but at least it's something to give you a taste of whether it's something you'll even be bothered to be interested in.

I'll certainly be glad to wait for an official announcement with details and "pay-to-play" related discussions before I say whether or not I'll be following this with high hopes. It is Bungie.. and no matter who tags along (Activision) they do great things and will always have my attention.

Looking forward to looking forward.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

I really do hope it is for console aswell. Mind you the way my 360 is going it probably won't last until their next game.

With Bungie creating a massively multiplayer action game. How will Bungie contend with the rampant cheating and modding?

When I play with others, I want to be assured that my game experience is not hampered by cheaters and bots. If there is one downfall to Bungie's next game, this will be the reason.

Perhaps with all that Bungie is doing to curtail cheating, exploits and bots within Reach they have gained an invaluable insight on deployable methods to counteract my qualms.

Here is to a bright 2012 winter!

...What?

This is a pretty old thread that the OP has edited to keep up with the times. Originally it was debating the legitimacy of the entire "Destiny / Tiger" rumor that originally came from Kotaku.

Drummer's post was specifically aimed towards the article I linked. Drummer's Post was made on February 17th, the same day that this thread was made. There is absolutely no way he is commenting on an IGN article that would be written 14 days after he posted.

You are gravely mistaken.

Yeah, that basically sums up my thoughts as well. And you're right, the beta will be enough for me to decide one way or another. I just hope they do some kind of real demo so I can get friends to consider it... assuming I pick it up, of course.
