Subject: UNSC Aegis Fate - The Lost Frigate

http://bungie.me/sig/noble/Stealth+Fox74.png

I'd like to discuss the possiblity of where the UNSC Aegis Fate is.

What We Know: It survived Reach. Came back to Earth and helped repel Truth's attack on Earth (In halo 3, Battle of Voi) Now in the Battle of Voi, When Truth escapes through the portal, it is known that it is firing MAC rounds at it. Now we know (according to Halopedia) that it along with (Unknown) and Forward onto Dawn went to Installion 00. (Though Halopedia seems to be very disorganized at this part) From there no evidence from halopedia supports that it fought in the Battle of Installion 00 though we know it travelled through the Portal. Aegis Fate means "Protective Fate," or "Doomed to Protect." Halo 3 BETA describes it fighting in the battle of the Ark (00). The Aegis Fate encountered Brutes.

According to Elephant's display information of holographic screens, the atmosphere contains high CO2, unfit for humans to live. This would kill the theory of it being on the Ark. However it might mean it could be in a different section or the equipment might be broken/malfunctioning

Theory, The Ark:

It is assumed that the firing of the Halo ring either severely damaged or destroyed the Ark while killing the Flood forces around Installation 00, including the Gravemind commanding the massing Flood amid the battle. -Halopedia

Now if it was on the Ark, it would explain the name, "doomed to protect" Protect what? THE ARK!!! Also where else could the Aegis Fate go after entering the Portal? Its in a completely different galaxy! IT MUST BE THE ARK!

discuss your opinions

After-Discussion:

Maps are indeed as cannon as possible. Multiple Frigates did enter the portal and fought in the space battle above 00 as stated in the quote by the shipmaster. Sandbox and sandtrap are not proven to be on the same structure.

Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame. They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory.

Shangheili FTW

Wait just a minute, how could the In Amber Clad go to the Ark if it splipspace jumped into the interior of High Charity and crashed in Halo 2?

Ok just realized that. Traveling from Earth between slipspace and portal screwed me up. Looking for 3rd ship right now. (there were 3 ships)

I think there were only 2, and could you provide a link to a picture with the elephant's CO2 readings?

Halopedia has no sources. Do not trust it. Multiplayer maps are of questionable canonicity at best. Aegis Fate is no more than an easter egg for fans of detail.

There is more proof that Aegis Fate did not go to the Ark. Lord Hood was reluctant to allow one ship to follow through the portal. I don't believe there is any way he would weaken Earth's waning defences further by allowing another. Also remember that it was a Covenant Cruiser that carried the Dawn through the portal. There is no sign of Aegis Fate.

That article is written using unconfirmed sources and speculation. It is as reliable a fan-fic.

Now that that is out of the way:

Now if it was on the Ark, it would explain the name, "doomed to protect" Protect what? THE ARK!!! Also where else could the Aegis Fate go after entering the Portal? Its in a completely different galaxy! IT MUST BE THE ARK!
Firstly, the crew of AF would have no reason or obligation to protect the Ark or any of its remains. If they did hypothetically go through the portal and didn't escape back to Earth in time they would most likely make some sort of attempt at returning home, similar to Spirit of Fire did. Having said that AF would have been long gone by the time the portal closed, as far as I can remember anyway, Cortana says that getting to the Dawn was their last chance. AF would have left when they realised that everything was about to go BOOM!

On another note, the portal can actually send ships to more locations than just the Ark. We see that it sends the Chief to a location other than the Ark or Earth and there is also something mentioned by the Librarian in the terminals about it. I'll find it if necessary.

I find it funny how one generally unknown Frigate managed to survive longer than almost every other UNSC Ship.

UNSC Frigates FTW :D

Also, for the guy above me, it was the Shadow of Intent that carried the Dawn. It was also mentioned by R'tas during a radio comm during the Ark battle when he says "Let your Cannons roar!" He is referring to multiple Frigates, not just the Dawn.

Again, there is no actual evidence here, just one line that you are interpreting. It is still mere speculation.

Oh I really like the idea that the Aegis Fate survived. Thats one tough little ship.

I'm agent Nahman Jayden, eff-bee-eye.

IMO the Aegis Fate is on one of Te's moons, as Sandtrap is located on the same area that Sandbox is in. And in Sandbox you can see a planet in the background that is very similar to Te (the hunter home world), also, there was no planet near the Ark.

Yet we do not know that sandbox and sandtrap are on the same planet/installion/ring/whatever. However if it is, then it would be groundbreaking. Now that i think of it however, its more clear. The towers... sand... artitechture...etc. But if it is the same then as the person says above me, its obviously connected with the covenant as the description states. so... theres a planet and sun in the background. lets discuss that

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

The only UNSC frigate that went into the portal was Forward Unto Dawn.

Maybe Sandtrap/Box arent on the Ark?

You have a good thought. I know someone said the Portal might lead somewhere else. Where Else?

-Ring
-Different Section of Ark
-Other Planet

Now what we dont know is that if it helped Forward unto Dawn fight in the first battle of the Ark.

Now my arguement for it still being on the Ark is a different Setion or somewhere remote. Now we know the Ark is heavily damaged. I'm guessing that the CO2 levels can be explained because of that.

Frigates are underestimated. They suck in space but they dominate in atmosphere as they are the only ships that can actually hover and fight there, and easily as a result avoid getting hit due to being fairly small targets.

Listen to R'tas during the Radio chatter in the downed Pelican on the Ark. You'll hear it.

Does he mention the name Aegis Fate? Does he specifically say he is talking to a different ship than the Dawn? No. It is not proof. Using your logic you could say he was talking about any ship from the UNSC Home Fleet.

That was during the battle above the ark,he said "cannons" and a frigate only has one MAC so there had to be 2 frigates.
Why would he be talking about a ship from the home fleet if that fleet wasn't even present at the ark.

That was because the ark was damaged partway through the ship going through the portal. It shut down after half the ship left, causing the other half to drift in slipspace (I think) until it went back into normal space.

Frigates have several point defense cannons too. And he could have been talking to the elite ships for that matter, they have plasma cannons.
