If they do release a Halo film, what do you think it should be about? I'd say the events of Halo 1, but a there are other options that have been considered. At one point they were thinking of basing it on The Fall of Reach novel. We have all these games, novels, comics, etc. that is could be based on, or even an completely new story. What do you think it should be?

Also, keep in mind what they did with the Doom movie.

Subject: What should the Halo Movie be about?

They should make a 2 part movie(s) and if it is sucessful they make 3 more that covers the events of the games.

Movie 1
Start at the beginning of the fall of reach (book). Dr halsey and keyes are scouting out candidates for the spartan-II program, and the movie picks up right as they are going to Johns planet. THe main enemy would be the insurrectionists as we see the spartans grow up and eventually capture/kill colenel watts upon their capital inside the asteroid. The last third or so of the movie deals with the book contact harvest; first contact with the covenant and the initial battle to defend against them. The covenant come looking for the sacred rings, but what are the rings? They are mentioned, but no details are given to the viewer so that they shock and mystery when one is finally revealed is greater. Sgt Johnson being the major player in the first battle for Harvest.

Movie 2
Picks up right after the end of the first one. The spartans head to an underground facility to get their mjolnir mk IV armor (which looks a lot like the MK V but with a more Jorge like helmet). The meat of the movie covers major events in the 25 year war between the covenant. It follows the spartan-IIs as they fight on the ground, and also Captain Keyes and and Preston Cole as they fight in space. Also follows dr halsey as she deals with the political side of things. It eventually introduces the young spartan-IIIs as they are being trained on onyx. This naturally progresses into following a specific group of spartan-IIIs: noble team. The climax of the movie is the battle of reach. They do it in a way that sort of combines the events of the books and the events of the game. By the end of the movie the viewer believes that every last spartan but master chief is dead (they assume kelly, fred etc are dead but their "deaths" are done in such a way that they could theoretically be alive). The pillar of autumn escapes from reach and we see thel vadam and his squad of 12 ships follow. The credits roll as the pillar of autumn drifts towards halo.

That way the movies could completely stand on their own and have 100% continuity with the games since the movies end just as halo CE begins, but it also means they could make 3+ more movies to follow them up if sales were good enough.

now if there WERE to be 3 more movies, the first one would solely cover halo CE. The next two are a bit tricky since they need to cover the events of halo 2, halo 3, ghosts of onyx and first strike....and maybe even a bit of odst.

A dream...

HALO, you fool! I'd like a Halo in my Halo movie.

Without a doubt, it should be based off Halo: The Fall of Reach. That is my dream, and I hope it becomes a reality. They should do a 2-parter consisting of at least 2 and a half hours each, or a 3-hour EPIC 1-parter that is very accurate to the novel.

A Halo movie would have to be based on Combat Evolved. The discovery of Halo, the mystery of the Forerunner, the Flood, the Covenant, these elements all need to be introduced straight away for the benefit of people who are not already fans. It's called exposition. Imagine the first Harry Potter movie started when he was four and going to school and ended before he discovered he was a wizzard. It makes no sense. Halo CE translated into a movie would open the Halo universe to a movie audience who know nothing about it the same way it opened it up to a gamer who knew nothing about it.

The scale of the universe in Halo is massive and Halo CE would show almost none of it. It would only show a tiny aspect of it, what happens on this ring world in the middle of nowhere. There is no context, no nothing. TFOR would be a 10000x better introduction than CE.

THe discovery of the halo ring is significant because it is the turning point in a 25 year genocide. Halo has no meaning if you don't understand WHY it is so important. TFOR gives that context.

Look at The Fellowship of The Ring. In order to give context to the story a 3-4 min background scene with narration is given to put it in context. This is done in film-making all the time and is an effective way to give context. Star Wars, a much vaster and expanded universe than Halo, began with absolutely no context or explanation and managed to capture the imaginations of millions. If an explanation is needed for Halo, which I don't agree with, imagine an introduction showing humanity's colonisation of the stars, prosperity and then civil war. The creation of the Spartans was a direct result of the civil war but then a new threat emerged blah blah blah. Cue montage of human losses, glassed worlds etc. Short explanation of Reach's importance, BOOM!, no more Reach and then we fade to black. Next thing we see is the opening cutscene from CE. Context given.

First - Contact Harvest
Second - The Fall of Reach
Third - The Flood and First Strike
Fourth - Halo 2 and Halo 3

I think tfor is just as if not more interesting than halo 1-3.

So I disagree.

Not much else to say.

It has nothing to do with either one being more interesting. Its about introducing a fresh audience to the universe. What better way than the same way we were introduced? It obviously worked.

Anyway, you have your opinion so we'll leave it at that.

About 2 1/2 hours.

The scale of the Star Wars Universe is massive, and none of it was there until the first stories were introduced: A new Hope.

The scale of the Halo universe may be massive, but it is all branched from the initial story: CE. leaving out the starting point and shooting off to some publishers branch in the universe is not where to start.

I think the movie should start with combat evolved. I mean they should get into what HALO really is. A ring world made by the forerunners, but they shouldn't make it into another "halo legends".

DMH-Always Loaded
My name is Tyler. Computers and Video games is what I love to do.

It is really hard to determine where to start Halo, for its universe is so board. Would you start at the forerunners or even the precrusers? Halo CE? The founding of the covenant?
There are a lot of possibilities on where to start it.

  • 02.18.2011 2:49 PM PDT

First 15-20 minutes should be The fall of Reach. Then Halo: CE. With of course, something in the end leading up to Halo 2.

  • 02.18.2011 3:18 PM PDT

A while back, LatinoReview posted an update to there script review for the halo movie. They said it would probably be based on the Fall of Reach, and that The Covenant would not appear until about halfway through the film, saving major special effects money, while being canonically correct.

I like it how people who play Reach do something like go to sleep and people think therefore Reach is losing players.

I really hope that they do something around the trilogy rather than Reach.

I 2nd that! If there going to make a film about Reach then don't bother calling it Halo

should be about the fall of reach, based on the book (not on the game obviouly) with epic space battles.
