No.

They aren't Prawns.

Although, they have females, meaning they aren't A S E X U A L, so it can be anything.

That seems unlikely, but possible. We don't know too much about the anatomy and physiology of Elites, or the creatures that inhabit their home planet. I would hazard a guess that no, they don't lay eggs.

My rational: Larger animals tend not to lay eggs, as the shell would have to be enormous (to facilitate growth and the storage of nutrients). Given the size of Elites, internal gestation seems most likely.

Yes, but the brain is a very complex organ, something that reptiles do not share with humans (and possibly elites). With eggs, there is a set amount of nutrients for the developing creature. For animals which carry their young internally, they can offer more nutrition and time to develop.

I'm not saying that it is impossible, but in my opinion it is improbable.

The Snow Leopard's wisdom includes: Understanding one's shadow-side; trusting one's inner-self; agility; strength; the ability to stalk; understanding the power of silence.

Someone doesn't know that crocodilians have very advanced brains, rivaling some of the smartest mammals.

Maybe they lay eggs, but who knows; there's no reason to think that they do.

Maybe, maybe not.
We never seen a baby elite and we have only seen once a female elite, so it's hard to know.

  • 02.19.2011 4:42 AM PDT

How do you know they are reptiles?
If you look at them they have a skin that resembles frogs, the several jaws is something no animal has, etc.
But mostly they are alien species they might have a copletely diferent way of giving birth to and growing their youth.

  • 02.19.2011 4:45 AM PDT

Nope, they just respawn.

In all seriousness, I'm not sure if it's ever been covered in the extended canon. They do appear reptilian so I would assume they lay eggs, but I'm just guessing here.

Yes, Sangheili (aka Elites) lay eggs.

Source?

The comic, Halo: Bloodlines, issue 3 to be exact. One of the Sangheili characters mentioned they were 'hatched' on Sanghelios.

I wonder what they would taste like?.......:)

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I highly doubt they would.

He's not wrong. In fact he's right.

Hold it right there.

Hello. Name's Brian. Look, if you're looking for a flame war with me, just open up the Flood and write up some not-nice things about religion and I'll bring my nukes to the party.

If you want some other way to contact me, you can forget it.

I dunno about eggs really.

BAWLS

ya know since its an alien species anything is possible... like the male not even having his ding a ling and just like puking onto the woman or something weird like that

No new games, catching up with the world, and filling it with the name of SpazDragon, the dragon with a spas-12.

My best bet is to say that elites are born from internal gestation. I think it makes the most sense. They appear to be warm blooded, and like another person said earlier, it makes the most sense nutrition wise...

Screw that, they reproduce by budding!!!

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

They seem to be reptilian in origin, so it would make sense. However live birth seems more practical for a Sangheili, given their culture and lifestyle.

While complex for reptiles, they are not in the same league as the human brain. For one, they are much smaller, and lack the major gyri and sulci of the human brain (which are important for surface area). And while their behavior is advanced, they lack the truly complex behaviors that larger mammals exhibit (such as using tools, and basic languages). Birds on the other hand (close relatives of reptiles) have used tools, and have quite advanced communication skills. Still not quite on the same level as humans and other large primates.

It seems that this settles the debate.
