SPARTANs versus Elites can and will definitely rock. 16 on 16, or even just 8 on 8 on XBOX LIVE... say goodbye to the outside world. But what do we know about this Humans VS Covenant so far? Only that it is possible in HALO 2. But to what extent? Now here is what I think about it (or at least what I would want to see):
* Level specific battle options. Meaning that if a battle was fought on an Earth map, the humans would be able to call in airstrikes. Maybe limited to 1 per game or every 20 or so minutes. Also, if fought on human territory, there could be the option to have the human side have only Warthogs as their vehicles, with the Covenant have only Banshees. Of couse the human side would have all the different kinds of Warthogs (Troop transport, rocket, gauss, LAAG), and that would balance out the land versus air battle. And if fought on some kind of Covenant world (could be possible), maybe there could be some kind of "spawn building" where small groups of grunts and jackal bots would emerge every minute or so to help turn the tide in favor of the Elites. Maybe the random pair of Hunters, or even a Brute could also appear. And on the Covenant maps, there would be stationary turrets at the Covenant base, but none at the human base since they're the ones visiting, and their base is more of a makeshift camp.
* Gametypes. Sure, we can play CTF, King of the Hill, and Team Deathmatch with SPARTANs versus Elites, but what would be the point of having the option to play as an Elite? I had fun playing as MC vs MC in HALO 1, but there's gotta be some kind of new gametype specifically made for SPARTANs versus Elites. We've all read about the new ASSAULT gametype, right? One team tries to plant a bomb into the other team's base. Now unless there was a Taliban versus American Embassy gametype, why would HALO 2 have a team of SPARTANs try to plant a bomb in another team of SPARTANs' base? That's humans versus humans, and sure in FFA deathmatch it would make sense, but again I have to ask: what's the points of having the option to play as an Elite? If I had the chance to design a gametype for SPARTANs versus Elites, I would make a VIP mode, where each race would have some kind of VIP to protect, as well as a VIP to capture. The human side could be protecting a War General, or even the President, while trying to capture the Covenant's VIP... The prophet. Maybe an assassination mode where this President and Prophet are actually controlled by a person and their team must protect them while they try to hide. Or maybe not because no one would want to play as the VIP.
* Racial Differences. I'm sure that the HUD will be different between SPARTANs and Elites since the SPARTANs HUD is what he actually sees on, or through his visor. But I'm also sure that these 2 races would have more differences than that. The SPARTANs can use Covenant weaponry but the Covenant can't use human weapons (except maybe for grenades). Maybe have it so that If an Elite picks up a power up, it lasts twice as long than when a SPARTAN would pick it up. Remember, the overshield and active camo is of Covenant technology, so maybe they would know how to use it better. Also SPARTAN armor is better than the Elite's so they would be able to take more damage. Easily balance that out by giving the Elites a weapon that SPARTANs can't use... Light sword anyone?
What else can you think of in regards to Humans VS Covenant?
