Toying with the idea of setting up a slayer tournament between the Maw members and I am looking for ideas. I've never done anything like this so any suggestions, especially from people who have set one up or participated in one, will be greatly appreciated. Possible formats could be 1v1 elimination, 16 man free for all's, most kills over several rounds. Only reply if you have an idea not just if your interested. I will make a separate thread later for signing up if we decide to do it. Right now we are just kicking around ideas and figuring out how and if we can do it. Probably will not have the tourney until after the holidays.

I'd have to say that any big FFA games aren't good. Especially between good players who are all between 1-3 kills at any point in time, a bad spawn can make the difference between losing and winning. So if we were I think it should be team-based or at the very least FFA games only consisting of 4-6 people.

Typical ladder set, 32 players. Start off with rounds being held at 2vs2 random-paired Team Slayer. At 8 players, change it to 1vs1. 2 matches per round, with a map decided by a team for respective matches (So one team chooses map, then the next team chooses map, eliminating any "home field advantage"). Screenshots of the PGCR should be taken after every match. In the event of a tie, the losing team or player with the highest score goes on to the next round. If it's still tied, a sudden death with map decided by both teams should take place to determine the winner.

That's how I'd do it, anyway.

I think this is an awesome idea. We should have a few games in each category, like ctf tourney, slayer, team slayer, etc. Maybe start a thread on what types of weapon's would be preffered on each tourney.

I think having a slayer elimination would be sweet, but like jman said, spawn kill's become kind a problem. So, I think a 50 kill slayer would be more forgiving with spawn kill's. Giving people a chance to come back from a few spawnkill's.

Once we figure out what everyone can agree on, game on.

I like it Oni Ryu, unless someone has a better suggestion we'll go with that. I think we should just try doing a slayer tourney first, a CTF tourney will be more difficult to coordinate because you will have to set up larger matches and teams. Maw members are spread out all over the world.

I think for the first tourney we should keep it simple. Limit map selection to the small -mid sized maps and I'll probably use the TWL 2v2 and 1v1 slayer gametypes, which includes all default weapons but the respawn is 10sec.

Starting to formulate a plan, keep the ideas coming I will probably make a sin-up post at the end of the week.

Wondering if anyone has spare webspace and/or some HTML skills they would care to donate to this tournament. Would like to have a page with info, the bracket, match schedule, results, etc. for people to go to. I actually have a webpage available that came with my server but I have NO idea how to use it.

Oh man, don't ask me, I have not the most basic idea of how to code in HTML, though I'm fairly positive there's someone on this forum who can. I too like Oni Ryu's ladder setup, very similar to the World Cyber Game's ladder setup. If we don't have that many people we can even do a continous 1v1 series of games with multiple brackets. Though otherwise we should just do that random pairing thing, if anyone wants I'll make a program in Turing to do that ;)

P.S ya I know it sucks, but my school's computer science class teaches this in grade 10 and 11, figures....

I thimk we should put it to where its a 1v1 so that we dont get that much lag in the final game ( final game having like 8 people )

wait..why would the final game have 8 people? Right now, we're planning on making an "FFA" tournament, where in the end 1 player wins. If we were playinga CTF then I guess 8 people would be fine, but even with that many people lag should not be an issue. I see, especially on Iggwilv's server, that unless someone is running very bad internet there is basically no lag, all pings are clse to 100. I'd say though that the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals should all be 1v1 games. That would be fair to whoever's playing in them.

Relax, there is going to be no more then 4 people in a match. The format will be a series of 2v2 team slayer matches two maps per match selected at random from the following:
Battle Creek, Longest, Wizard, Derelict, Damnation, Rat Race, Hang em High and Prisoner. In case of a split the higest kill total will win. If still tied the last map will be replayed until one team is the winner.

When we get down to the last 4 teams we will go with 1v1 slayer matches two maps per match until we have a champion. We'll see how it goes and maybe we'll do anothere tourney in the future.

Halostats is dead, the guy that was running it hasn't been seen in over three months. No one can register any new servers, so that is no longer an option.

Fortunately, someone who was tired of all the rampant hacking on Klanwars, programmed another anithack client and Klanwars saw fit to make it mandatory for all KW matches. Even though I think KW is a mickey mouse outfit they wouldn't have done that if they didn't feel it was effective and stable.

The New Halo anithack program can be found at http://www.haloanithack.net At first glance it runs in the background on your system and scans Halo when you open it and play. It then reports any hacks or cheats you may be running to a central server and they display the user name and if they were running a hack, which one it was. I'm gonna research it and see how it is working.

well all i was intending was for some sort of anti hack program to be used if the tourny is to be fair. didn't say it HAD to be halostats.... that was just the only one i knew of. never did the kw thing and never did the halo stats thing to be honest. I game for fun not for ...... for imaginary points that determine how little time one spends with members of the opposite sex (sry to those maw forum members that this includes, just leave me to my beliefs)
