Subject: Kat's death, lame, unexpected and w/o legitimate reason

Everyone seems to assume that the Covenant did not have nor act upon good reliable intelligence. The Field Marshal may have targeted Kat specifically. She was, after all, very talented when it came to electronics and a definate thorn in the Covenant's side when it came to assault of Reach.

Her death also highlights one major factor, chaos. Death often comes in a variety of forms, none of them pleasant.

War can be random or specific and not everyone has the time to go out in a blaze of glory. Her death was the least gloryfied but the most meaningful.

"Sometimes even heroes die."

A possible explanation was that MJOLNIR shields have to be manually rebooted when the helmet is removed then put back on. And since Kat has been described as having a fatal lack of situational awareness she may have forgotten to boot them up when she put on her helmet. Her death was the hardest hitting though. The others had good deaths. She showed that war isn't fair and not every gets to go down in a blaze of glory.

Kat's shields were taking constant bombardment from the radiation produced by the Covenant's glassing beams, 90 million roentgens is enough to kill an unprotected human in seconds. All of Noble Team were vulnerable, Kat was the unlucky one because of her lapse of situational awareness - too busy contemplating Holland's orders to notice the Field Marshall in the Phantom.

I believe Kat's death was the most meaningful one in Reach, it shows that no matter how much Spartans are propogated to be super-soldiers they are still very much human and death can snatch them away at any time.

Well put AJ.

I think the same about Kat's death. But imo, it was the best out of any of the games. Johnson's would have been better, but that typical, last moment death sentence ''Send me out... with a bang'', killed some of it's potential. I would have perfered Johnson's last words to have been ''Kick his ass''. Kat's death was quick and clean and incredibly effective. It hit home like few others.
Saying "Kick his ass"wouldn't had made any sense. John already killed 343 when Johnson says that line.

I think he means when Johnson first gives you the Splazer in the fight. He goes "Kick his ass..." then falls over.

I reckon that cat was just recharging her sheilds cuz if you look closly her sheilds start to recharge but not as fast a 6's cuz he's a mk4 she's mk 2 or mk3 so her sheild system is lower.Oh it would have been better if she had been shot with beam rifle but dont question bungie!

Um... what? All of Noble team had Mark V armor. The same armor Chief wore in CE.

None of Noble Team had shields up during that part due to radiation. Three Spartans had their helms off, and after they got put on there was no shield recharge.

Kat just put on her helmet. Her shields were down.

Anyways, Kat's death is meaningful. I'm not sure why, but it cannot be a coincidence that she is the ONLY character to actually be seen dying on screen (Jorge teleports, Emile falls off screen, Noble 6's camera cuts away, Carter is inside the Pelican). There has to be a reason for it.

Didn't Emile die when the Energy Sword ran him through? He just shot the guy at the same time.

He stabbed the zealot, but died after falling off the cannon. (You hear him breathing, then he dies.)

I just play for fun. MLG can kiss my ass.

Just thought of something interesting. The head shot should not have worked, here's why:
1.Spartans have skeletal enhancements that make the skeleton nigh indestructible.
2.Kat had a steel-reinforced titanium helmet on, it should have blocked the shot.
3.Finally, the only way a head shot would work on a spartan is if it was in the eye.
So, all in all, the shot should have just bounced off her skull and maybe hit the elite in his leg.

Good point, but a hole in your theory is you have no idea what those needles are made of. It could be hard as diamond. It's not like those needle rifles shoot like Nerfs. They're rifles that shoot high-velocity rounds.

I used to have a thread-theory on this. Not about the shields part, but about the Covenant that shot Kat.

I said that Kat was killed by the Field Marshall. He was stalking your team throughout the whole campaign as in a revenge for killing his Zealot team back at Visigrad Relay. He's team is also responsible for the death of Emile, but Noble Six later kills him when heading for the MAC Gun. Bungie confirms him to be the Field Marshall, because in the Legendary Edition Commentary, they mention the Covenant that shot Kat as ''The Elite Commander'' which would be the Field Marshall.

And on the shields, I guess they were taken out by the EMP of the glassing, but that dosent explain how the elevators work nor Kat's TACPAD.

They actually mention why the field marshal was stalking noble team in the legendary commentary... but I won't go into detail...

we don't know what those needles are made of or what powers their movement.

I'm dual-weildin' mah SMG's!

Apparantly, the Field Marshall was 'after something she knew'. I still consider that Field Marshall to be the same one from the first and last level in the game, which I think is meaningful as under most circumstances the player kills all the Zealots before the Marshall (As he's high up on a platform while the Zealots are on your Ground Level) I still consider him as a Kind of Boss battle.

The Shot passed through her head because...
1. Her shields were down.
2. The needles are armour piercing, which is how they stick to you.
3. If the Skeletons are Indestructible, how can a Sniper Bullet go through more than 1 head? The Skeletons are hardened, not indestructible.

I just wish they had killed Kat with something a little more... substantial. I mean C'mon, a needle? How many of those have hit N6 in the head over the course of the game?

This is probably the most well explained theory on this I've heard. I agree completely with this guy.

This theory has been on Halopedia since two days before release(The leaks). So as far as I can tell, you just stole the idea. And the commentary isn't the only proof, you can literally see the Feild Marshal.

I'm sorry if I come off as an ass.

Actually they are virtually indestructible. The only explanation is A: The needle is like spiker shots, super heated pieces of projectile or B: She had been injured during augmentation, and some of her skull was replaced by metal units.
