Even if Halo is activated, the impulse would take 25.000 years to reach its maximum range, supposing it can travel at light-speed, so in every case we have plenty of time ahead.
And even if one halo emits the signal for the activation of others, well...it would take the same way several years to reach the next one (supposing each halo at least some-thousand years away from the next).
Even If we suppose Halo is a light-year away from Earth, there is some time to worry about it... ...I can't imagine the Forerunners so dumb (it's all about relativity). I think Halo acts as a sort of power-ring (like the Machine in "Contact") that can create a wormhole in his centre and only then do what it is meant to do..

Well you have to think that we are going faster then light to reach other planets to live on cause the nearest star is 25 light years away from earth. Now the forrunners were way more advanced and if we are going faster then light they deff are.

Who is to say that Halo's "KILL-O-MATIC-DEATH-RAYS" cannot travel at speeds upward from that of light? This is a game, after all.
