"Boss Fights" just don't fit in FPS games. That's just my opinion. I've played FPS games where there were bosses to fight and I didn't really like it. The only one I did like was fighting Xan on Unreal Tournament 2004.

I LOVED the bosses on Borderlands. They were challenging, and fun at the same time.

Borderlands is one of the few exceptions.

Agreed.

Bosses were amazing back in the day, I mean just look at this guy, and this guy. They do not, IMO, belong in more modern FPS.

i thought tarturus was cool, spark was eh, i think theyre a lot better w/ sticking to ending scense like, warthog over exploding things into pelicans etc

There are times when I think boss battles aren't needed in a FPS. Facing hoards of enemies is more dramatic and fun in a FPS IMO then facing one boss. A good example would be one of the last levels in Marathon Infinity titled 'You Think You're Big Time? You're Gonna Die Big Time!' In this level you face pairs of the toughest kind of some of the enemies from the game. I personally would prefer this to a boss battle.

If a developer was inclined to include a boss battle then they should do it like Halo 2 did with most of it's boss battles, facing waves of enemies while you're attempting to kill the boss. This IMO is a better way of doing boss battles in a FPS.

Whoa, you actually saw the cutscene? How come you missed the part where Chief wears Mjolnir, then?

Incorrect, Doom 3 FTW.

That one worked because no matter who you ended up facing as a final enemy, it was one on one fighting against an insane enemy AI. There wasn't an "shoot this part, then another to damage him."

Too many FPS games with 'boss battles' do that. You do the same thing over and over to kill the thing.

I forgot about the Metroid Prime series. Those are the only FPS games who do one on one boss battles that I actually like.

Even then, Metroid Prime games are more of a "First Person Adventurer", than a full fledged FPS.
Bosses worked in that game because of all your varied puzzle solving abilities and the massive ammounts of health for both you and the boss.

True but it still applies. Maybe developers should start to add more puzzle like elements to FPS games to liven up the variety.

I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all.

Wasn't fight with guilty spark at end of Halo 3 kind of a boss fight?

  • 02.21.2011 11:40 AM PDT

lolcats.com

remember DOOM on the xbox 1...

there was a good boss fight in hell IMO

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

It depends on how well toned the boss fight is, I believe that Regret and Tartarus were pulled off very well in Halo 2 - but Guilty Spark was too simple, even on Legendary.

Arrogant hyperbolic exclamations of woe? Seems like a normal day for Halo/Bungie.net.

Regret?!? SPARK?!?

LOL. Easiest.Bosses.Of.All.Time.
I just used Sword Flying the second I saw him (Regret) and then a couple of slashes would do the rest. On Legendary.
And don't even get me started on how easy Spark was.

Anyways, I do agree that I'd like to see more Boss fights in FPS's. Nintendo does the best bosses! And the Sonic bosses (older games) are cool as well.
