Don't derail mah thread pl0x!

D:

Ok, I am sorry Anton.

You know, I did come here and kinda cast a shadow on your thread. We disagree, but your right, I should not derail it like I did.

I'm sorry.

No, it was not the debate, just the flaming there between folks.

Sangheili Major: "Brute ships. Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three-to-one!"

Rtas 'Vadum: "Then it is an even fight. All Cruisers, fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!"

I've never understood how to properly pronounce his name...

But yes, he is indeed an awesome character. Nice thread.

Hm. I've always pronounced it "Ray-tas", one; because it's easy, two..."Hruu-tas" as I heard it in the Long Road Home video sounded...I dunno, it sounded kind of cool but difficult-ish to say, haha.

I am Field Master Avu Med 'Telcam, Servant of the Abiding Truth, and I have many brothers.

A god who creates tools is still a god. It is not for us to impose qualifications upon the divine or presume to guess its intentions.

Vociferous pronounced it "Arr-tas" in one of his documentaries. It seems there is no official annunciation. But just because I like Vociferous, I'll stick with it.

Tbh that is the way I say it now as well. "Ar-tas" sounds better; Oortaz...meh. I'm a lazy speaker anyway, I am guilty of saying "Mi-Gol-Neer" for Mjolnir until recently.

As I said. Ar-tass sounds better.

For silly reasons I didn't like calling him Ar-tas. Heh.
Mjolnir...That was just damn confusing when I first heard of it. It left me like "lolwut?", and then recently I found out its something like "Meel-nor" or...yeah. Something like that.

Well, he did command a fleet of ships, so technically he is not really a Shipmaster, but a Fleetmaster now. Most likely, he may just fill a naval officer role rather than his old boots-on-dirt commander position. Pure speculation here, but with the death of Xytan Jar 'Wattinee, and Rtas' merits, he may become the new Imperial Admiral.

Not entirely happy with that though. It just means that he will likely remain a minor character. :/

I'll always remember this quote from him,

"On the blood of our fathers, on the blood of our sons. We swore to uphold The Covenant."

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I think Rtas' view on Humankind and his decision to spare Earth was obviously heavily influenced by the Arbiter. Just as he said himself, "Were it not for the Arbiter's consult, I would have glassed your entire planet".

That said, it's possible he learned his care for Grunts and his definition of honor from another Elite as well. Maybe a mentor or a former commander of his. I really can't see Rtas coming up with it all on his own, I see Rtas as an Elite who would have consulted the wisdom and views of Elites all throughout the Covenant instead of just blindly listening to the teachings of the Sangheili council and the Hierarchs.

Now that I think about it, do you think Rtas would have decided to continue pursuing the Brutes to extinction after Halo 3?

I've always pronounced it "Ra-tos", but I really don't care how it's pronounced, it just matter if they keep him awesome.
"All ships fire at will! Burn, their mongrel hides!" He is such a bad ass amongst the most bad ass race in Halo.

'There are many aspects of the universe that still cannot be explained satisfactorily by science; but ignorance only implies ignorance that may someday be conquered. To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today.'

They commit suicide when they spill blood?

Why isn't this little fact commonly practiced in the games? LASO challenges would be so much easier. Just drop the shields, score a hit, and watch the suicide action!

I like this...I demand a patch for Reach to include this feature.

But yeah...half-face is cool...
Because it is also stated that dying in battle is honorable...

Maybe. He ain't too fond of them. Hopefully not though, that would be quite hypocritical of him to do so, considering what his people have been doing for the past 20 years...

Well at the end of Halo 3, Rtas pretty much says the Arbiter is in charge of the Elites. I don't see the Arbiter wanting to continue war either.
