Reach Chieftans, with shields, have goatees and beards. Those hammer chieftains will and do jump insane distances towards you in order to smash you to bits.

I'm fine with the design change, but I wish berserk mode was still there. That was part of what made brutes fun.

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

I quite like the coneheaded whoopnars !

I still think when you hit a hairy H3 Brute with a fire grenade they should of ran around screaming (like in Syndicate Wars)

Shame

Thank You

Yours Sincerely,
Teh Phantom Panda

well we WOULD expect a difference as the Reach brutes are supposed to be similar to halo 2 brutes, but I do agree on the aggro AI thing in Reach, they are just too pleasant and nice and not Brutish, AND smart enough not to be assasinated

I was actualy scared of Chieftans in H3, they were something you saw and went "Oh crap, how am I going to kill this bastard?" But now, they're no longer a threat and weak as anything,

Chieftans were easy to kill in Halo 3. All you did was dodge, punch, dodge, punch, rinse and repeat.

For a Brute fan you should have known each tribe has their own distinctive coloring (from tan to black) and hairstyles (from fully haired to bald) and amount of armor (due to how "strong" they find themselfs)

Each Halo basically showed us a different tribe.

Also: whats wrong with a cone head? They are meant to look like Gorilla's, ever looked at the shape of a Gorrila head? Its a cone...

As for the change between H3 and Reach Brutes: as if the H3 brutes were hairy...Granted: they were more interesting to fight but still weren't amazing.

The problem with the Brutes is that the games constantly refuse to portray them as they are:
3 meter tall death machines that who won't back down.

The games never portray them as being A LOT taller than you, the player. They should have been as tall as a Hunter (Hunters should have been even taller when standing upright). That makes them more intimidating. Furthermore: they never got their iconic brutal fighting with their hands in the games.
In the books they will drop their weapons, tear off limbs etc etc. The games should have had the same.
In the books: they are often described as rushing through their own troops, tossing aside Grunts, killing them if they're in the way etc. The Chieftains never do so in the games.

Brutes are awesome....in the books. The game Brutes never looked menacing, never felt menacing and never fought brutally...
Book Brute=Berserker?

Basically.

But not blind, not quite as dumb as a Berserker and not per definition female ;) But in other regards: yup, just like that; a walking tank

All this talk about different clans...this is fancy talk for "I'm excusing poor design"

I don't read those books, or watch Halo Legends. (Don't even get me started on that cartoon. That show gave me cancer.)

But, back on topic, I care very little for these books and these cartoons. If I am reading these books (which I doubt), then I can pictures these things in however fashion I want. But in Reach, I have to look at this...visual pollution that are Whoopnars (In case anyone missed it, I am calling Reach brutes Whoopnars, under the premise they are not Brutes, but some other, unnamed race thus far)

Anyone who talks about different clans...no...just no.

I will accept that different clans will have different names, traditions, etc...simply on the basis of established possibilities of what know. However, I refuse to accept that different clans have vastly different genetic structures to the point where the physical form has altered.

Humans have white people, black people, Asians, albinos, etc. But generally speaking, the humanoid form is 99% identical, with a difference in skin color, and perhaps physical size. Whoopnars vs Brutes however, there are too many differences to account for. Take a look at those photos and compare the two.

Brute
Whoopnar

There are two conclusions:

1. Whoopnars are not Brutes
2. Whoopnars suck

And for the people who were saying "You were looking at their eyes, and their feet?" Yes I was, because I was looking for every difference I could find. This is called analysis.

After what Bungie did to Brutes in Reach, I am happy I can sleep at night knowing Bungie can never again screw up something so amazing as the Brutes, as they will never work on another Halo project again. I am sorry if this sounds a bit extreme for something like this...but this is coming from a guy who was not going to buy this game if Brutes were not in it in the first place. Brutes were interesting to fight, if at least on a enjoyable level. They were funny, they were interesting, they were challenging. They are all around interesting. They were a slave race that managed to climb its way out of practical enslavement and second-tier status and actually make a name for themselves. Does this ring any bells (civil rights movement). All around, their entire concept was fascinating!

However, when I said I wasn't gonna buy Reach because of lack of Brutes...in hindsight...I kinda wish Brutes were NOT in Halo Reach...they would have fared better had they of been excluded.

If you are a Brute fan...then you can agree with me that we must never again call THIS a Brute...ever again. Call them whatever you want, just don't dirty the name of Brute.

Ah the typical "selective approval of canon" case all over again.

They are Brutes, and you just have to accept that and can't just say they're not because you don't like how they look and just decide that canon can be thrown overboard...

Your opinion is overruled by canon....

Also:
May I add that people kept complaining about EVERYTHING about Brutes and wanted Bungie to change them all the time?

You forget...the game itself has overruled Canon by messing with the continuity and altering the events laid out by the books and a previous game. So...selective continuity be damned. Your argument is overruled by logic.

Our best hope is to remove the game Halo Reach from Canon.

Oh yea because Halo Reach and Fall of Reach not being intertwined seamlessly has everything to do with Brutes' different appearances....grow up mate.

No, but it has everything to do with your stupid comment about "selective Canon" and how I put you in your place...and your only rebuttal is deflection. In my line of work...we call that an admission of defeat.

Forklifts never die. They're just missing in Forge.

Bungie just decided to shave them and put them in hot pants...

No, it shows that you can't read. I'm telling you that just taking what you like from canon and dismissing the rest as being "fake" or "not true" is stupid. Because everthing Bungie/MS and 343 have put out there IS OFFICIAL CANON. Wheter you like it or not. Just accept that.

Fact over logic, if you want to be childish. You never put me in my place....Go and complain somewhere else, with your lame Whoopnars...

You insist of being "smart"? Explain me this:

I don't read those books
Suggest you do some reading before posting then. Like I said before: books state a fact about different tribes and that overrules your opinion.

or watch Halo Legends. (Don't even get me started on that cartoon. That show gave me cancer.)
So...whait....what? You didn't watch it but somehow it did manage to give you cancer....from watching it....which you said you didn't do?

But like I said, go somewhere else...

Listen to me very carefully DonVinzone1...I am going to say this as simply as I can...you are clearly not blessed with normal human cognitive abilities.

Just to correct your stupidity...Halo Reach is not Canon as it has already messed with the continuity of an Established game (Halo CE). Although I do not read those books or watch those cartoons, people seem to think they are canon as well.

So if you say EVERYTHING is Canon, in spite of constant contradictions between Halo Reach, and Material that came BEFORE it (that for the record, all fit together nicely BEFORE Halo Reach came along)...then how is two versions of the same event canon in a single universe?

Its like saying "Germany Won WW2 and the Allies won WW2" or "Xbox 360 brand name was released before the PS3 brand name and the PS3 brand name was released before the Xbox 360 brand name" or even "1 + 1 = 2 and 1 + 1 = 3". these contradictions do not make sense and they are equal to Halo Reach in the fallacy sense. Only one thing can be true, and the opposite is false.

Like I said, I don't read those books or watch those cartoons...but other people do. If the vast majority of people realize the contradiction in the chronological history, people are going to remove something from Canon, whether the studios like it or not. It boils down to the fan base. More often than not, the fans are more knowledgeable than these so-called designers.

Halo Reach has overridden/corrupted the Canon of 4 previous games and a multitude of books. The entire universe will not make way for this flawed game. Halo Reach does not have that much weight.

If Halo Reach was some...other event...some other battle never detailed, something new to the universe, then it could be accepted as Canon as it would have negligible-to-no impact on the history. However, this is not the case.

It is widely known that the Halo Reach game is totally flawed historically, and thus, all of the game content, by extension, is non-canon and flawed. This is a common practice in our society to depreciate information/content/testimony/produce/events coming from a spoiled source. Halo Reach is like a clinically insane individual, and the content of Halo Reach is its testimony to events. Any rational human being just might pause and question the authenticity.

Whether you like it or not, you are wrong, and I am right.

your logic is flawed.

Halo Reach Brutes (also known as the Whoopnars) are not Canon.

---

also yes...Halo legends gave me Cancer and I never watched it. How? Let's put it this way...you don't need to smoke a day in your life to get lung cancer, but proximity to it can be just as bad.

---

I apologize for going off topic with that example but I felt it was necessary.

Hahahaha, One of the best replies I've read in a long time. Very good. Have a cookie.

On topic: Yes, brutes in Reach sucked. I like Brutes. They are the only species that can consistantly scare the crap out of a Spartan, yet on the other hand, lack of shields makes them easy targets. This contrast is fun and I like it.

The Brutes on Reach were from a different clan, not under Tartarus, who of course allowed Brutes to grow out their hair. These were under the Prophets, which if you notice in Halo 3, also had no hair, because the Prophets ordered all Brutes to be shaved and given Power Armor since Tartarus was no longer around.

I also hate that they removed Berserk from the Brute. I missed seeing them fly to you and can kill you in one hit but you can kill them with a few shots. I wanted them to have hair, I truely did, I wanted to face Bigfoot's, Bungie decided otherwise.

But at least there is a reason why, you're welcome.

Love, A Brute Fan as well =]

Wow what a fail, Tartarus troops were the Brutes that didn't use powered armor because they believed in their natural strenght and didn't want to use technology to augment their strengt.

The ones showed in Halo 3 (best Brutes ever) where the ones who weren't under Tartarus clan and influence.

And I agree, Halo: Reach Brutes, weren't scary at all, and way easier than the ones in Halo 3.

Halo: First Strike states that a brute can take an entire Assault Rifle magazine to the stomach without flinching.

I like to play Devil's Advocate

I also hate how they pussified Brutes

Have you noticed in that one pic I posted, they hold Spikers with 2 hands? Like they would a Rifle?

But In halo 3, They would hold their Spikers with one hand!

and we all know holding guns with one hand is cool
