I also hate how they pussified Brutes

Have you noticed in that one pic I posted, they hold Spikers with 2 hands? Like they would a Rifle?

But In halo 3, They would hold their Spikers with one hand!

and we all know holding guns with one hand is cool

This was stated multiple times as a last minute thing because they didn't have enough time to add it. Why didn't Halo 2 have Spikers? They were rushed.

We'll bury our burdens in blood...

I think that from an artistic standpoint they didn't want to overshadow the return of the Elites.

Hey! What up? I'm "TCProphetSlayer" a teenager that <3 LOVES <3 the Halo series ever since I played it back in 2004 after one of my friends got it and brought it to school. I then wieseled my way into coming over to his house to play it :D ...goooood times :)
Love, "TC"

my thoughts EXACTLY!!! i wish they had either chosen one of the previous two styles of Brutes (Halo 2 or 3) or somehow mixed the two instead of remaking them to be wimps...i mean the Elites are more brutal than the Brutes! on Legendary, a squad will bum rush u and itz an FML!!! moment b/c a single smack from one of them will kill you. Hey Bungie! you mixed up ur species!

Its possible...but why do a half-decent job on Brutes? in Halo 3/ODST the Elites and Brutes looked just as good in comparison to each other.

I think...Bungie was just getting lazy and they just resolved to accomplish one thing with Reach.

It is my theory...that this is what they were trying to achieve...

"I'm not fat, I'm trustworthy"

Keep in mind that this was a prequel...and people were complaining about the brutes in halo 2-3. Like someone said earlier, the brutes were only really the way they were in H3 so they could fill the gap lost by the elites. Bungie even stated they were only planning to have a small encounter with them on one level but brought them back in at the end because they liked their ferocity.

I have said it a ton, I think Halo 3/ODST Brutes were fine. Enjoyable enemies to fight. Halo 2 Brutes get a pass because they were new at the time and still being fleshed out.

I just dislike how how they were so neutered in this game. They should have at least looked like Halo 2 Brutes, without the armor, with the bandoleers, and shoulder pads. They should have been quick, they should have been violent, aggressive. The Elites should have been the more conservative fights in this game.

Bungie got their own material confused and mixed the Brutes and Elites up.

I wish they just straight up left brutes how they were covered in hair. Once they were given power armor, to be they were just Hairless brutes with Ninja armor. I hated how the entire set of armor fell off once you got it weakened, It would have been better to me if just that section you hit fell off.

Brutes were given Armor in Halo 3 realistically to replace the Elites, stated by Bungie. They failed to do it right as they were far too easy to kill. Brutes should have kept their semi-armored bodies with hair, I missed fighting big foots.

I like the power armor, but I hate how it chips away.

They had to make a step up from halo 2, I was expecting that back in 2007.

I would have found it kinda dumb if the Prophets left them with just hair protecting them. Power Armor was the natural evolution of their ascension to power.

But in Reach, I would have also love to see the hairy ones again.

Call them whatever you want, just don't dirty the name of Brute

Dirty the name of Brutes? Your -blam!-ing me right? they eat people!

Where the hell have you been since Halo 2?! Brutes are -blam!-

"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the Universe."

I miss the H2 brutes, who were almost as hard to kill as a hypergiant star burning with the fury of a thousand gods.

..hyperbole, but ya get what I mean.

I always hated Brutes.

Same. I think they are fine in Reach. In halo 2 - over powered. Halo 3 - Fine but the bezerk was stupid.

In Halo Reach they have less fancy armour due to their not as dominant role as they have in halo 3.

I like the glow of their eyes and the removal of bezerk. Makes them more believable to fight rather than a pack of king kongs with rockets up their arses flying around.

The people who complain that brutes have been mixed up with elites are quite simple minded. If bungie had made the brutes as aggressive in the previous games then people would complain that they were just fighting brutes again. Reach was the focus for the elites and their return into the series.

Personally im sick of fighting brutes in halo 2 and 3 and im glad bungie changed them slightly.

It's weird. In Contact Harvest they are described to be really hairy- or rather to be covered in thick fur, and have Energy Sheilds. Their next appearance in the whole series is in Reach. There, they have no hair, not one of them, and no longer have sheilds. Then in Halo 2 they no longer have their power armour but are back to their old hairy way. In Halo 3 they have goatees and some hair on their head, nothing else, and their armour is back. And just before then, in ODST they randomly have Energy Sheilds again.

Who cares if they eat people. That adds a dimension to them as believable enemies. This is called character development, something that is overlooked by most designers/producers/and young people. You have more reason to believe they are bad if they eat people. It makes them unique and interesting. Name me one other Covenant race that eats people?

You diss the Brutes? You sound like someone who idolizes the Elites. At least brutes can perform simply physical tasks like:

-heavy lifting
-climbing ladders
-learning languages

That's right. Elites have malformed legs, no tongues, and are considerably weaker in terms of Physical strength than a Brute is. In hand to hand combat, an Elite will be dismembered before it can say Wort. With all these disabilities, every Elite should be equipped with one of these

Some other person named Mega Loathe just said they like Reach Brutes? You like the fact they do not berserk? You like the fact they are dull, boring, and bland? You like enemies with flat characteristics? You sir, are boring, on a colossal level. You like one-dimensional enemies that do one thing...shoot. You like enemies that do not talk, that stand there, and fire a gun. If you wanna kill one-dimensional AI characters, go back to Nintendo 64. We live in an era of technology where it is expected that games produce some level of interest, intelligence, and depth to AI enemies in a FPS environment. You have low standards Mega Loathe...I suggest you raise them...fast. Nothing personal, I am just looking out for your best interests. This also goes for anyone who likes Reach Brutes.

If you hate Brutes, fine. If you like Reach Brutes, we have a problem...and the problem is you.

  • 02.21.2011 9:54 PM PDT

Man is born free but everywhere he is in chains.

I wanted them to be more like they were in Halo 2, but instead, they're essentially dumber elites without shields.

  • 02.21.2011 10:04 PM PDT

How did I escape? With difficulty. How did I plan this moment? With pleasure.

Those looking for a group to join, I suggest you join Gamma Company Spartans (check my groups page). We are a friendly and active community always looking for more members.

We need a Halo 3/halo 2 brute. Halo Reach Brutes were pathetic. Grunts were a bigger pain.

Relax, 343 is a Canon friend, they will return brutes to their former glory.

One could only hope.....

I may be the only one who thinks this, and sorry if I offend anyone, but the Brutes in Halo: Reach look like cheap Locust Horde Drones from Gears of War.

No joke.

... brutes are as thick as they are strong. They're not meant to be interesting, intelligent, or deep, they have to be constantly whipped into line and told what to do repetitivley by the taller, stronger, faster and infinitley more intelligent elites. And, actually, the fact that they don't leap 20 ft in the air toward you, unsheilded, unarmed, with only their bare hands and the foam from their mouths to throw against your wall of lead, and actually take cover (or at least try to) in Reach, may show a move by Bungie to try and increase the amount of effort required to bump a single enemy off. Because, lets be honest, was it really that hard to bump off a totally unsheilded, unarmoured brute running in a nice straight line straight toward the barrel of your BR in anything other than legendary? :D

Don't dig the hairless thing, though...

Dark Neptune, a young amateur astronomer whose gaming life is no different from other teenagers of his age, though he controls it more strictly then others.

It's still horrible to find out that the only physical difference Brute Chieftains have as compared to other lower Brute ranks is that they have Sage's Beard. Only shorter.

No kidding. Go play as an Elite, with "Brute Chieftains" as your allies in the Initial wave. Knock out their shields and try to carefully shoot their helmet off.

Like Seriously?

BLAM!

There's nothing scarier than rounding a corner and running into 3 brutes in H3:ODST.

I agree that they have lost all of their tenacity in REACH. There should definitely be a lot more blood and gore when they are involved in a firefight.

AND, if bungie would have implemented this system, they should be able to tear the limbs off of humans. I love video games where limbs and heads can be blown off.

Think about how terrifying it would be to play against Brutes who are literally tearing your allies apart.

Not to mention how hilarious it would be to play Fire Fight with ur buddys and seeing one of them getting torn apart.

Foman is awesome!

What the hell are you talking about? Brutes in Halo 3 were absolutely horrible. They would just stand in one place and pulse at you with their spiker until they're shields popped and ran at you in a straight line. They were horrible.

Hey do you want an awesome Halo Reach map?

Its your lucky day I have a BTB map just for you whenever you want it, just click this link. and you will be taken to my file share where you can download my map to your Xbox. :)

I thought the brutes looked like mole people

  • 02.22.2011 8:20 AM PDT

I miss seeing a brute in halo 2 and being scared, only to see his pack running up behind him and knowing that i did not have the ammo to fight them. Halo 2 ledgendary brutes were scary angry brutes compared to any of the others and should of been brought back.

Brutes are supposed to be a bulk that can get shot and keep running with it guts spilling out... there supposed to get you sared because they dont die and do a really good job at killing you. Halo 2 brutes on legendary captured this for me.

The brutes were more...brutish in halo 2. I think I actually preferred them there. Their rampages were actually fierce.
