Yes i agree the Brutes on reach are less formidable then in halo 2,3,ODST But then again as I'm sure someone might have touched base on the timelines

remember Reach is first not last, It is just my opinion that "MAYBE" they became more feral as the time progressed, maybe even received better training or different breeding

Needless to say i do miss the "superbrute" leap from across the map with a hammer that ways probably as much as car or small truck.

So you're saying that in 4 - 5 months they got a super training regime and somehow got tougher and bred superior Brutes that took over the Covenant? I like that idea, I really do, it's a great way to rise their self-steem and confidence.

Maybe they have a genetic disorder that causes them to be hairless, albino weirdos.

The Brutes on Reach should be renamed Woopnars because they have nothing in common with brutes at all other than two arms, legs and a head. :P

Oh no, but I also dig this!

jk, I don't dig this!

Oh wait goatees!

Hair! Goatees are cool!

... right?

Mmkay.

Michael Jordan lunge because he's the only NBA player I can name!

Oh mah gawd where mah Michael Jordan lunge?! Just kidding. Kind of. But really, Brutes were the coolest in Halo 2. They were kind of stupid in Halo 3 and Reach. In H3, they were only bad looking without their armor and when they were berserking. In Reach, well, they just look bad.Posted by: Cubanpete24
But they're missing mohawks
That was only in Halo 2 for Tartarus. *sigh*

I've always preferred Elites over Brutes. Because we all can admit that they're both smarter and harder to kill.

Now I see two possibilities here:

1. The book writers are stupid, and they have NO CLUE how to write realistic, and rational thinking characters. The only thing these writers know how to do is write 1-dimensional and static characters with absolutely no mental growth. This gives me plenty of reason not to read these books written by stupid people.

OR

2. The Elites are stupid. They are so deluded, and misguided, that they do not deserve a fraction of the respect and intelligence that is credited to them. They believe in discredited lies and fallacies for their own personal comfort (but conveniently lose faith in a nearly identical set of lies and fallacies: IE - The Covenant and the Great Journey). Any race that so heavily deludes itself in lies, and double standards, should not, and could not, advance the way the Elites did...but somehow they did.

3. The Shipmaster is stupid, and whatever subset of the Elites that follow his mindset. The others who do not, are obviously the reason how their society has progressed.

Humanity has creationists and flat Earthers, but there are also significantly more rational thinking people in the world. The same could be said for the Elites.

Just saying.

Fine....I'll just call it a Brutehawk.

You raise a good point with 3. That is also possible, but from what I understand, Halopedian describes the Elites as a whole believing the Forerunners to be Gods. It never specified, but the wording suggests it was a global, and widely followed religion, at least.

As for Flat-Earthers...if they still exist by 2552...then they deserve to be victims of genocide.

As for Creationists...we can surmise that (at least in the fiction of Halo) Christianity (at least) still exists because Dutch refereed to "The Lord"...a title commonly (but not always, but commonly) used to describe the Christian God. There must be some reason it still exists...

Unlike The Forerunner worship...I don't think Christianity, among other religions, has been 100% disproved. Like...totally, beyond a shadow of a doubt. But again...I am singling out Christianity here...

Again, so as not to offend someone, I am speaking strictly inside the fiction of the Haloverse. So...keeping an open mind...we cannot say for sure some dude did or did not invent a time machine and disproved the World Religions as we know them. So...its kinda different in that respect.

However...I do not want to turn this into a religious debate, so feel free to respond, but past this, I won't reply further on this topic.

From a design point of view, speaking aesthetically, Halo 3/ODST/Halo Wars brutes were the best looking.

You're right...perhaps not totally clear cut, that's assuming you are lookin at it from a race point of view.

You could easily rename the Castes and fit the Covenant races in their appropriate places...but we won't get into that we. We both understand, at least, the Covenant is LIKE a Caste System.

I don't think I ever said it wasn't :/

You did, in fact, say they were societal equals, which implies full equality on all levels, as a society is composed of many different aspects, including Government, military, civilian status, etc.

You called the societal equals...but now you call them equals in most aspects. This is good...this means you are learning. Brutes and Elites may be equal in terms of rights A, B, C, and D...but since the Elites have a right, which we will call E, a right that the Brutes do not have, this will forever preclude societal equality. They may be equal in terms of military, they may be equal in the amount of respect they get from their lessers, but they will never be equal in government representation.

Mu opinion hasn't changed at all, maybe I've gotten a little better at my phrasing in this argument, but my opinion has not changed at all. I've always believed the Brutes and Elites are basically at the same level of society, so the two races are equal, just not completely, the one issue where the Brutes are not equal is representation on the Council. I guess I basically just said the same thing as you here XD

I am sorry for being a human being who thinks for himself. I am sorry I don't eat schlock like everyone else.

Any rational, normal thinking person, when given irrefutable and discrediting evidence on a subject, tends to rethink their position and reevaluate what they believe.

In this case, it was proven to the Elites the Forerunners were corporal beings. Corporal beings die, they expire, they are fallible, they are weak, and they are small. By definition...these are traits a God or Gods do NOT share.

Now I see two possibilities here:

1. The book writers are stupid, and they have NO CLUE how to write realistic, and rational thinking characters. The only thing these writers know how to do is write 1-dimensional and static characters with absolutely no mental growth. Any race that so heavily deludes itself in lies, and double standards, should not, and could not, advance the way the Elites did...but somehow they did.

What makes me even more sick, is that we, as the outsiders, KNOW, for a fact, the Forerunners were not Gods...but...you still defend the Elites for believe in nonsense and bullocks. But of course not...you eat this schlock, non stop, eating it, and eating it, and eating it...accepting this substandard literary work, and never questioning it, and never thinking about it like a rational human being would.

Step back from these stupid books for a second, and actually think about this...think for yourself...think like a rational human being.

Once you do this...you will FULLY understand my point of view, and you may even agree with me.

Just wondering? Have you read any of Norse mythology? Their gods could be killed, the idea of mortal gods is not contradicting of the title of god. Just because a god can be killed does not mean it is not a god or can no longer be called one if it dies. All that was proven false was the Covenant's idea of the Great Journey. Seeing as we don't know what exactly the Elites believed about the Forerunners 'godhood' I don't see how you can say the Forerunners dieing should disprove their beliefs to the Elites. I don't defend them believing an untruth at all, I am merely stating what is fact: that they have not turned away from their belief that the Forerunners are gods.

I am perfectly rational, thank you very much! You know, there is such a thing as difference of oppinion, what you might think is "schlock" as you put it and trashy substandard work, another might think is the best thing since sliced bread and the most awesome read ever. I highly doubt I will ever agree with you over this matter, and I do analyze what I read, that is why I am able to come up with explanations for things that perfectly explain events, characters, or societies in the books and games.

Christianity is definitely still around in Halo, Johnson mentions going to church as one of his fonder memories from when he was young, and as you pointed out, Dutch praying after his big free fall in a vehicle, and also later talking about the "Good Book", which is a name often associated with the Bible. I have my own reasons for believing that Christianity will never die out, but as far as Halo goes, I don't think something that is as ingrained into Western Society as Christianity is going to be eliminated or disappear very easily.

And actually one can argue for something like a "sword gene", which is only a rather simple and crude way of putting it. We don't know how the Elites genetics work, so for all we know there could very well be a gene that gives god-like swordsmanship to those who have it. And even if that's not the case genetics would still play a part in the best swordsmen, just like an Olympic athlete can pass on "genes" that makes someone an Olympic athlete. And even for humans nowadays, genetics is still a subject that we don't know that much about, there's still a lot to discover in this field that could render what we know today about the field false.

I hated the Brutes in Halo 2, they looked perfectly fine I mean, but I hated fighting them because their damage resistance almost made the game unplayable whenever Brutes came into the equation. It takes somewhere in the neighborhood of a full clip to take one and it takes two sword blows to kill one, which is a little absurd if you ask me. I think it's pretty much everyone's opinion that the Halo 3/ODST appearance for the Brutes is the best, though I really like the Brutes in Reach, I think they look awesome.

Its tough to argue the existence of sword genes, or any genes that make you genetically predisposed to a specialty.

I am a computer program. my Mom and Dad are both computer illiterates who don't even know the first thing about computers, but they work in a bank and practice medicine as an MD respectively.

Do you think, when Roman Soldiers were tossing spears from a chariot, they were genetically predisposed to being experts at using M-16 machine guns? How are you genetically predisposed to something that does not exist?

You could argue "accuracy" but throwing a spear and shooting a gun are two different things.

Also...Reach Brutes suck.

Why do you think Brute Hero's suck? They are covered in Armor, why hate on them? Shields, armor, Power Weapon, which is what the War Chieftain was in Halo 3, why do you hate that Brute?

It's pretty obvious why I hate the minors.

Their heroes, the Chieftains...their armor looks like it is made of wood. They are not even dangerous. At least Halo 3 Hammer Chieftains had that invincibility power.

In Reach, they just look silly. They remind me of super mutants from Fallout 3. They look like mutant humans...not aliens!

Well, Elites that wield Energy Swords are mostly far more, adept at fighting and are more intelligent as, well, they've killed thousands of enemies to get the rank necessary to receive the honor of the sword.

It's like us, some of us get things from our parents like abilities and the likes, say, an olympic swimmer were to have sex with some random woman and gets her pregnant, the baby would be less likely to get the attributes from his parents.

But if it was with another swimmer, I think the baby would have a genetic predisposition to be of a more slim and athletic body instead of a regular body.

Get what I'm saying? Besides Brutes just have their nightly village circle-jerk, were every Brute minor gives head to the local chief of the village.....cookie if you get the reference.

I think that is just Marvel's take on the Norse Mythos, I haven't seen any clearly stated idea like that in the actual mythology.

I think maybe part of why it hasn't been covered is it's not all that important to the story, and probably wouldn't ever really be important to it unless we got a story about an Elite priest or something.

Its tough to argue the existence of sword genes, or any genes that make you genetically predisposed to a specialty.

Well I said "sword genes" was the crude way of putting it. You have to agree though that there are certain genes that would make one more suited to something, yes? That's my take on it anyway, that being a sword master for Elites is more than just wielding a sword, and thus why they would want a specific genetic set for one.

You are talking about the first time the game players have seen them right? Not the the Brute's first canon appearance?

I think they've looked cool in all their appearances. The two are not all that different looking, I think we'd have the same thing playing out as with the different sub-sets of Humanity. You know how like Asians would look very different from a European, but they're still both humans. The Reach Brutes are simply less hairy than the others we've seen and have a different shaped head.
