Success is just going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.

When I was reading through Cryptum, it's often mentioned that they could live for thousands, even tens of thousands of years. Even as advanced as they were, I don't believe anything could live that long in Earth years.
Guilty Spark also said he would purge Cortana from the Halo core in a matter of months in Halo CE. That seemed a short time to him.

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

I believe that time units were converted to our units by the AI translating the story in Cryptum. Remember that the Forerunners are constantly surrounded by body armor that takes care of their medical needs and makes infection impossible (not counting flood).

343 probably would have had to take his time purging Cortana from the core because of the size of the core and how important it was. Similarly to how Cortana had to delete the Covenant AI abord Ascendant Justice line by line, 343 had to do this with a MUCH larger network.

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

Also keep in mind that Cortana had to "find"/draw out the Covenant AI first. And since Cortana's thing is intrusion, it would likely aid her in evading Guilty Spark.

It all depends on what they base their time units on. It is possible that they started off using the revolutions of their planet and switched to a more standard measure. It would be difficult to figure this out without knowing the base.

I do believe that in cryptum, the years they speak of are meant to be human years (it would be strange to use a time measurement that we are completely unfamiliar with).

The book begins with an AI translator note, after all.

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Aging is caused by the decay of telomers (segments of DNA found at the ends of chromosomes that decay every time cells divide). There is however an enzyme called telomerase which actually reverses the process. There have been studies done in mice recently where aging not only has been stopped by actually reversed (see the November issue of Nature for more info). If humans have learned how to manipulate aging at this point in time, imagine what the Forerunner could have done.
