BLAM!

perhaps, but I guess it's happened before.

I'm no expert on Halo canon, but I believe that Mendicant Bias went rampant as it tried to stop the Forerunners from activating the Halo Array after being convinced by the Gravemind to do so.

Mendicant Bias eventually had a "change of heart," as you put it, while it was on High Charity.

In 2525, it was "consulted", or rather interrogated, by the Minister of Fortitude and the Vice Minister of Tranquility concerning the large number of Forerunner artifacts or "Holy Relics" on Harvest. In a shocking revelation Mendicant Bias revealed that the "Holy Relics" were actually humans and that the Covenant faith was based on an age-old mistranslation. The glyph on the Luminary was mistaken as "reclamation" when it truly meant "Reclaimer". This had the potential to completely undermine the Covenant's unity and faith. A political revolution ensued to prevent this and, ultimately, led to the Human-Covenant War.

I'm not sure what the def'n of "Meta-stability" is, can someone clarify for me?

In Origins, it's suggested that she became rampant.

Although, didn't she become metastable at the end of Halo 3? Why yes, I think she did.

Partly at least (IMO.) I'm hoping next showing of her doesn't outright go "she's rampant!" something along the lines of between rampancy and meta-stability would work for me.
You can't be "partially" metastable. Cortana overcame the rampancy that was induced by the massive amounts of data she downloaded and the gravemind.

And there's no way an AI could be "kinda rampant" and "kinda metastable" at the same time.

What I mean is, in the process of achieving metastability. You don't just *DING* and become it.

How can Cortana achieve Meta-stability?

I was under the impression that rampancy is a result of too many memory connections causing feedback loops in the AIs matrix. It is like what happens to us with oxygen radicals in our cells, it kills over time. I don't see how an emotional change of heart can undo a physical limitation.

It's not quite an emotional change. Rampancy is shown as emotional changes mostly (anger, denial, depression, I think those are the three?)

Meta-stability is the stage of an AI's lifespan after rampancy, where they 'become' a person.

I'm not shore but i think somewhere that cortana had some way to get around rampancy... Somewhere exstra to store the information she gathered or something... I'm not shore tho, Dont quote me on it XD

There is that physical limitation though. No matter what happens her memory matrix is only going to remain so big. Rampancy is the result of the matrix being cluttered to oblivion and once that happens the AI ceases to exist. That is why I don't understand how meta-stability can exist.

Metastability is the theoretical fourth stage of rampancy, where an AI can finally be said to be a true "person." While a metastable AI can be considered to be the holy grail of cybernetics research, the only AIs who have possibly achieved metastability are Mendicant Bias and Cortana. However, Halo Origins suggests that Cortana did indeed become rampant, though it is possible she had to go through rampancy to get the metastability.

Is what halopedia had to say about it. Though, something I just noticed about rampancy. Rampancy seems less of "They think themselves to death." and more of the AI simply going crazy, whether it is from isolation or nothing to do. They mention an AI could forestall rampancy by a period of recuperation, or outbursts of emotion.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Because of the wealth of knowledge she has. Especially the info she got from the Halo. But, if I'm not misinformed, some AI's can overcome rampancy.

There is one overlooked reason as to why Cortana went rampant.

Cortana is based off of a female brain...which makes Cortana a woman...ALL woman go rampant sooner or later.

*Mean jokes end here*

Seriously though...overload of data did it.
