Subject: Mjolnir Questions

:P

Foman is awesome!

How do you pronounce "Mjolnir"?

The Spartans used the Mark IV variant for the majority of the Human-Covenant War until August of 2552 when Mark V and various variants of it such as CQB and EVA were available. However Mark VI is introduced to John 117 only a month later. Was the UNSC developing both Mark V and Mark VI at the same time? If so then why? Makes zero sense.

I don't remember but did Mark IV have energy shielding or was that not introduced until Mark V?

I like to think of myself as an AI - I hunger for information, and I know, one day, that hunger will be my ultimate demise.

Mark IV did not have shields.

Mark V and VI were seemingly developed simultaneously because Mark VI had a prototype version named MJOLNIR Black.

Or when Mark V was being built Mark VI was in design stage.

Indeed. They'd already have design specifications for Mark VI with Mark V already being built, they'd just need to work on the upgrades.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

How different mk V is from mk IV anyway, excluding shields? mk V helmets description in Reach says it's basically mk IV upgraded to work with shields.

  • 02.22.2011 7:34 AM PDT

According to the Fall of Reach, there are hundreds of minor modifications. The Biggest ones are The shield generator and the ability to house a Smart AI

even after 10 years of reading books and scrutinizing the games stories, the level of depth still amazes me.

"Question. Which Spartan is best?"
"That's a ridiculous question."
"False. Master Chief."
"Well, that's debatable. There are basically two schools of thought."
"Spartans shoot Sangheili. Spartans. Sangheili.....Battle Star Galactica."

That is true. I remember that -blam!- in Final Fantasy 7 - that creepy bastard would come straight out of no-where and hit'em with that spear!

Also, myoll-neer.

Leader of the Deadly Viper Squad

My-oll-nir.

And maybe it just took a while to get the Mark V distributed? I really don't know. Its weird that they use the Mark IV for a good 25 years, then adopt the Mark V, for it to become outdated a year later.

  • 02.22.2011 12:21 PM PDT

I Know Bungie's Secret... Shhhhhhh...

MULE-NEER you idiots!

  • 02.22.2011 12:28 PM PDT

It's pronounced it Me-oln-ner. It is Thor's hammer he uses to bash in people's skulls... Or Balls, whichever he can get to first.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Mark V was pretty much Mark IV but with shields and the option to hold an AI.

That is it, it's not actually that weird that they were developed around the same time.

I think it is pronounced Mee-Lo-Nar

I believe this because in marvel Comics, the character of Thor calls his hammer Mee-Lo-Nar...and it is spelled the exact same way.

  • 02.22.2011 1:48 PM PDT

The Mk VI was being tested, they probably didn't intend for it to go live as soon as it did, but when reach fell and the covenant were on their way to earth, you can imagine the unsc would want every single little advantage they can get, even if that means outfitting only 5 spartans with it. Lord Hood was always a big believer of the spartans so he may have personally requested it.

Those weren't the only two upgrades.

The major ones yes, but not the only ones.
