Foman is awesome!

The UNSC's line of Sniper rifles the Sniper Rifle System 99 has been in service since 2460 thus by 2552 the Type 99 series of rifles are 92 years old.

Also there is the MA5 series also know as the "Assault Rifle" which by 2552 is 115 years old. The MA5 series of rifles entered service in 2437.

So my question is why does the UNSC use such old weapons? Especially during a war that lasted almost 30 years and cost BILLIONS of lives. You would think they would have developed many replacements during the war, so why not use them?

I like to think of myself as an AI - I hunger for information, and I know, one day, that hunger will be my ultimate demise.

Think about it. As more discoveries are made there are less to be discovered after. So by the 2400's many discoveries are going to have been made. Not many left in the old 'gunpowder + shell = bullet' mantra.

That is ridiculous. You can't simply "run out of discoveries" you can always create a newer, more efficient and deadly weapon system. Even something completely new. The UNSC just...didn't.

They read both our posts and thought what's the point in 2400.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

Have a look at the AR-15/M16. It's been kicking for over 50 years, and it's still kicking hard. Sure there are better guns out there, but there really isn't a dire need for a gun when the one you have does its job quite well.

Of course you can argue cartridge sizes and whatnot, but that's not the point I'm arguing, so don't go there.

Weapons can only be perfected so far. How many times must you remake the spear before you realize it's the hunter that needs to be changed?
