I think Halo is not a temple to worship the covenant's gods/Forerunner, and maybe Forerunner are not the covenant's god. Halo is a shrine, as Cortana said, but maybe for a different god. You already know what halo looks like. Trees, breathable environement, water, seasons, storms, temperature, etc. Well, I think the Halo's are the covenant homeworld. If someone invades one of their other homes/planets, they go to Halo, to wipe out that certain race. Say the humans went to explore a planet, but they found the covenant. Then the covenant would go to a certain halo to wipe out life within 25,000 light years. This is to protect them from invasions. The flood are their certain weapons to slow down the humans from finding the control center to stop the covenant. They release them once in a while to get some air, and reproduce. Well, something happened 100,000 uears ago. The flood were out, and they tried to take over the control center. The covenant tried to stop them, but had to activate Halo, to kill all life in 25,000 light-year radius. So since then, it has been uninhabited, until the covenant refound the Halo. There are marks all over the halo, and other random planets, to tell the covenant how to get there. (most likely star references). Also, there are pathways, tunnels, shaped like a prophet sitting in a chair. So maybe they made pathways for the Prophets to navigate around. What do you guys think?
