I've read the books and im fully aware of how the 20 meter kill radius of the Wraith, But have you seen an artillery salvo from an XM2001 Crusader? its unreal. If you think a wraith could go up against an M1A3 (not fielded yet, but will be in a few years) you must be smoking something. Our military maneuvers are much more advanced than the covenants ground doctrine, Our military is built to fight a massive ground, air, and naval war with China and Russia on 2 Major theaters of war. You're not giving us credit.

But i suppose im not giving the Covenant enough credit on their plasma weaponry and advanced technology, but now imagine the US military with equally advanced tech. we would wipe our asses with them.

So what?Capable of fighting 2 countries isn't impressive compared to fighting an entire interstellar empire.I doubt the US could fight 2 military powers at the same time.

A wraith is used as an artillery and is mobile. It could evade ranging shots and fire back.Although the plasma mortars are slow.

You have no proof on that claim,an average elite would beat a human any day.

The Scorpion MBT is a drastic downgrade from tanks such as the M1A2 Abrams. The Scorpion is a great concept but not very effective, against a modern tank. For one thing...range. The Abrams can kill a target up to a maximum range of 2,500 meters(8,200 ft). It's a sniper rifle on tracks. I don't know the maximum range of the Scorpion so I can't say which is better in that department. Ammunition capacity:In the game you're able to send unlimited rounds down range but if you were to eliminate the game element I'd say that the M808B holds about eight 90mm rounds, 4 on each side of the loading block. Once the tank goes winchester it's all over. The Abrams holds twice that many rounds. A key problem with an auto-loading mechanism is the huge possibility of jamming. The advantage of manual loading is that if the round misfires the loader can just pull it out of the breach and re-insert the round. You can't exactly get out of your tank in the middle of a battle to fix it now can you. The Scorpion has one 7.62mm machine gun. The Abrams has three machine guns. One .50 CAL, two 7.62mm's, and the option to mount a forth machine gun. Now, armor plating...The Scorpion is encased in Ceramic-Titanium Armor. Impressive ain't it. But I can bet that at least two of these could melt right through that thing. The Scorpion has a great track design

-Eight rounds?That's complete bull-blam!- as it's speculation.

-And you have any evidence of this kind of jamming happening with future tanks?

-Nope,it has two 7,62 mm turrets, you just can't use both of 'em in gameplay but you can see them.

-Nothing is indestructible, the abrahms tank will be destroyed too with enough well placed rounds.

Speculation on how weak the Scorpion armor is as well. Due to it not showing up much at all in the novels (where we gain the best idea of how they would really work.), it's all speculation about it being weaker then a modern tank.

Be nice to noobs..Remember even MLG players were noobs at one point.

I'm going to attempt to explain the reason for the scorpions higher profile than normal modern day tanks.

I personally believe that despite the Main Battle Tank designation, the M808B was designed as a defensive vehicle. In wars past and current when tanks are used in a defensive role, they are essentially dug into their own trenches. (Mind you this tactic is usually used on flatter plains)They are dug so that as little as possible of the tank is visible to an attacker, while still having the vehicle maintain a firing arc. The problem here is that on modern tanks the main cannons barrel is only about a foot and a half to two feet above the main body of the tank. Presumably since the UNSC still uses ballistic weaponry and metal alloy based armors that this tactic would still exist in a defensive role. The advantage that the M808B has over say an Abrams tank is that if used in the "berm" tactic that with it's auto-load system and the main body having a low profile, means that the main body of the tank is well protected and safe direct line-of-sight fire. By having the turret have a high profile means that it can maintain an effective firing arc while still having the majority of itself protected and since it has an automatic loading feature that means no crew is within the turret and if hit will cause damage to the tank but should give the crew time to escape to a safe distance(only if it missed the internal ammunition stores). Hope this makes since to you all.

Hello, and gooodbye!

Chobham armour is explosive, meaning it deflects incoming rounds/energy. It would'nt have to withstand whatever temperature covenant plasma reaches, it would just deflect it!

It is also incredibly light(as far as tank armour goes). that's what makes the Challenger so fast. You dont need to use as much as you would non-explosive armour.

The real problem with chobham armour is each peice can only take one hit before you have to replace it.

Are you high? Weapons no longer "jam" in the future, that would be true in any universe. The Scorpion has a up to 3 turrets, two main auto turret .50 cal's on the turret and one manned 7.62 below the main gun. An advantage to the Scorpion, it fires at a rate of a round every 3 seconds, which an Abrams takes from 6-9, A Scorpion could easily have planted 2 or more shots before the abrams can take another shot, HEAT rounds would simply destroy the Abrams.

Doubtful, the Abrams has a few countermeasures that I'm not at liberty to mention for obvious reasons. Believe me, if I could pit the two tanks against each other I would gladly do so. "weapons no longer jam in the future"? If only that happened today. Also, please tell me where it says the Scorpion has 3 turrets. As far as I'm concerned... The Scorpion has one turret. The Scorpion is equipped with two weapon systems. The 90mm High Velocity Cannon - the M808B's main weapon - fires 90mm Tungsten Armor Piercing Ballistic Capped Rounds at a high velocity, with a three-to-four-second delay between each round. The secondary weapon system is the M247T 7.62mm AP-T Medium Machine Gun, used for engaging infantry. The 90mm cannon, although the standard weapon on the M808, could be considered "light", compared to the 105mm cannon that can be mounted for greater offensive power[8]. Along with its weapons system the Scorpion is equipped with anti-mine detecting software and electronics to help increase safety while in use.

Look at the Reach Scorpion, Has 2 7.62 turrets, one manned, and one parallel to the main cannon, According to Canon, there are 3 turrets, one on each side of the cannon and one manned.

Exactly what I meant, although in Canon, you see the small machine gun on the turret on the right? There is one on the left as well but was left out for some reason, it was involved in Canon but I'm not sure why Bungie does these things.

I hate people who argue with wrong facts. Makes the rest of us look bad.

Chobham is not explosive. It is a composite armour that deflects the blast from HEAT rounds, or shatters KE penetrators, or uses friction from shattered ceramics to slow down the KE penetrator should the armour fail.

All this comes from heavy metal encased super-hard ceramic plates bonded to an elasticated backing to absorb shock.
Chobham (like most armour) overcomes the multi-hit problems by making each tile as small as possible.

On another note, I think im going to retract my ealier comments about Titanium-based ceramics used on the scorpion being less protective. Having done my homework it seems that Titanium ceramics are among the strongest and have highest melting points.

Still doesn't excuse the lack of heat reflection/abosrbsion though. :P

Indeed dragon, you are wanting facts proving the Scorpion is not a downgrade, yet there are no facts proving it IS a downgrade from modern day tanks...

  • 03.03.2011 10:33 AM PDT

I'd rather be in the Challenger or Abrams.
Saying that Scorpions were designed with multi-planet use in mind. Not so sure how well current day tanks would fare on different gravities. Also the supply lines in Halo are just a bit longer. The advantages of a tank that doesn't run out of ammo or fuel, and does the job whilst damaged (unless the turret pops off) until it's finally completely destroyed would weigh in its favour.

No it isn't.Your info about ammo capacity are assumptions.

Then you talked about jammi,g,something that is never mentioned in the books as you claimed, besides weapons in the halo verse never jammed.

Then again you claimed the scorpi only has one 7,62 mm turret but if you look at the Reach picture you see two 7,62 mm turrets.

The ammo capacity is a bit hard to guess but it's certainly not unlimited, where the hell are you going to stick all of that ammunition? Up your ass? I already admitted my mistake regarding the machine guns. As for the jamming, I'll withdraw my statement about the jamming for now. Perhaps I shouldn't pasted my old OP from an even older thread. ^_^

There might be plenty of space for it,i mean even a gauss turret has a capacity of 750 25 mm rounds, that's alot for that turret.
