I put this idea in a thread ages ago and I was looking for some more feedback.

Here is the basic story:

The year is 2558. A squad of four spartans finds a comm signal sent by Cortana giving the exact coordinates of hers' and Master Chief's half of the Forward Unto Dawn. After reaching those coordinates, they find out that the planet the remains of the ship is on a planet. The inhabitants? None other than the Covenant's gods, the believed-to-be-dead Forunners, and they're not so happy that Humanity has found their home world. The spartans fight through them and awaken John, who has been in cryo-sleep for about 5 years.

Here are the missions of the game, which also show the ending to the story:

1. Deep Space: Your fleet has been intercepted by an unknown squadron of fighters. No time to find out what they're doing here. Take them down and move on to the Dawn's coordinates.

2. The Blackout: Much like ODST's opening, your landing squad's comms were EMP'd and your controls are down, but this time, it doesn't take the entire campaign to find them. After your ship crash-lands, regroup with the other Spartans.

3. The Horrible Truth: After discovering that the planet's inhabitants are indeed the Forunners, and that they're hostile, take down their local militia and get to the rendezvous point. The UNSC has sent in reinforcements to you.

4. The Sands of Death: After a long battle in a desert in the search for Cortana's signal, You and your squad are trapped in a temple of some sort. There are no Forunners, just strange, supernatural spirits. Get past them and get the hell outta there.

5. Orbital Defense: The remains of the Covenant, lead by a new Brute alpha-male, have intercepted Cortana's signal as well and are trying to get through the UNSC's orbital defenses in order to get on the ground and assist the Forunners, which are being pushed back toward their capital city. They've already done enough damage to get into the atmosphere. Your job is to retake the orbital defense launch facility, get in orbit, and buy enough time for everyone to retreat.

6. Get the Hell Off my (stolen) Lawn!: Covenant artillery is attacking a vital UNSC intelligence outpost. Get back to the planet's surface and defend the outpost so the UNSC frigates can macblast the Covenant artillery force.

7. The Capital Assault: The UNSC now has the capital city of The Forunners under siege. Now you must get the exact coordinates of Sierra 117's cryo-sleep pod, then get there while the siege distracts the Forunner defense.

8. Sierra 117: Stealth is no longer an option. Your squad has been detected, and are being intercepted. Get to the cryo-sleep pod and reawaken Master Chief before it's too late.

9. The Ring: With John finally awakened and Cortana found, the New Covenant is now down to their last option: fire a secret Halo Ring, a fail safe of sorts, that is positioned near the planet's core. The Brute alpha-male goes to a secret laboratory where the firing array is, hoping to finally rid the Covenant of the Demon and finally bring their Great Journey to an end. Follow him and stop the firing, no matter the cost.

10. End Game: The five Spartans have killed the alpha male and stopped the Halo ring from firing. However, an abrupt stop to the firing has destabilized the planet's core, and it will implode in 48 hours. Push through the Forunner's last stand attack and get out of the capital city.

11. Rampancy: With Cortana going rampant due to her life cycle as an AI ending, she is losing nearly all of her sense of good judgement. It turns out that the Spartans made a horrible mistake hardwiring a rampant AI into the Forunner Automated Defense System. She's now officially lost it, and now she's trying to kill you. Get outta there and terminate Cortana (Chief will likely cry). But remember, finish the job fast, the planet is going to implode soon.

12. The Reclaimer: You have 1 hour left. Get into space and get though the Covenant orbital attack before you're out of time.

Afterwards: The remainder of those who were relocated to fight the Forunners return to Earth and a ceremony is held for those who died in the fighting. The short, yet bloody, Forunner War is over.

I added a mission to the story and revised a little bit of the information.

Man is born free but everywhere he is in chains.

Pretty cool idea.
I like your level conceptions.
Forerunner tech would definitely be something to fear (way more powerful than sentinels).

Edit: It's also cool to add in the Covie remnants.

to be honest halo 3 = halo 4. it goes halo reach, deliver cortana to cheif. cheif blows up halo ring. then to halo 2 when cheif kills prophets and grunts/elite/ some hunters ally with humans. then halo 3 cheif blows up the last halo ring saving the world. nothing else to go on from. they have done the battles of reach and earth. next should be where it all started, harvest.

But wouldn't it at least be interesting to see what happens to Chief after he is seen drifting off into space after Halo 3 ends?

Halo 4, Halo 5, whatever. I think it would be a cool idea. It could use some tweaking though. Forerunner technology is vastly superior to Human tech.

You make a good point.

the only surviving forerunners were either in the ark and just haven't been found yet and are still on a planet evolving tecnology so that they can get back into space or were far enough from th rings that they survived. the last on is more likly and if it is true then they are either monitoring humanity and the covenant or are exploring the rest of the galaxy and leaving them to be.

A new ODST game, but this time with a full length campaign and MM (and firefight of course).

I'd like to see it follow an ODST squad from Halo CE, Halo 2, or Halo 3 that go on a Halo Ring.

Or one that follows Buck and his squad on Reach, it'll have a nice tie-in with Reach (from when Buck meets Noble 6 in New Alexandria).

Sorry, I thought this was another "Post ideas for Halo 4 thread"

I don't think we should have a game featuring the Forerunners or Precursors, it would destroy the element of mystery about them. Also, I thought the Forerunners liked humans?

But didnt Cortana already go rampant and then stabilized to where she didnt want to kill anybody anymore?

Not as far as I know, but I do know that once an AI goes rampant, it will die soon. I don't think it can ever revert back to normal.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

The Forerunners are arrogant jerks. I don't think they'd ever team up with the dumb Brutes. If anything, the Brutes would be the UNSC's and the Forerunners enemy.(Like the Flood in previous Halos).

Perhaps these are a different, mislead sect or group of the Forerunners. They might have some sort of grudge or jealously against the humans.
Implausible but could work.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Cortana as a rampant AI... she is the main enemy as when they land on the Forerunner planet she plans to use its technology to enslave humanity and the old covenant... she unleashes the weapons on the planet on the Chief...

Forerunners didnt exactly like humans. The only reason they were "the chosen ones" is because Bornstellar at the end of the Forerunner trilogy will probably be the leader of the forerunners and he will fire the rings. He saw in Cryptum how good humans are and he was scared of their likeness to him when he was a manipular

I have a theory that a new Spartan generation went into service shortly after the Covenant war ended. So essentially, the Spartans are 3 of the new SIVs, let by one SIII. The SIII isn't Jun.

  • 02.25.2011 3:33 PM PDT

westpointusma they acually virtually caused the destruction of ancient humanity before firing the halo rings. they were in a large scale war with them. i found this out from a thread about the cryptum book.

  • 02.25.2011 6:10 PM PDT

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I like the concept of the Forerunners not being the good guys, I've been theorising it for years and Cryptum sort of proved me right (as the Forerunners were actually total bastards).

I always toyed with the idea that the Mantle was only given to humanity temporarily, they rebuilt what the Forerunners lost to one day return and take it back (like when they wiped out all but one Precursor for the Mantle).

Completely fan fiction, mind you but still an idea I like to think may one day come to fruition.

  • 02.25.2011 6:24 PM PDT

Friends before pixels.

well, sounds like fun.

....But it breaks pretty much every canon in Halo: Evolutions and Halo: Bloodline.

  • 02.25.2011 6:38 PM PDT

It sounds good. The one part that I bet a ton of people wouldn't like is Cortana's death. Something you should do for the afterward, show Chief's face. We've waited a decade for him to do it, but he's never removed his helmet in front of us.

  • 02.25.2011 6:50 PM PDT

no Covies just Forerunners vs Humans but like 15years after halo 3 so are UNSC will be smi back up tofull strength so cheif lands kortana wakes him up there exploring the planet finds a huge ass city then *from the legendary ending the "locator"(on the back of the security helmet) thats found in the ship thats just floating around* it goes off. Now by this time theres atleast 1or2 new sparten groups there both deployed to find cheif. when they get there cheif is held in a forerunner court** of some sort and dont believe he is part of humanity because he is genetically a "super" human. The troops arrive in the middle of the hearing kills all the forerunners and escape out of there. But the forerunner are planing something secretly there going to destroy the universe again and no one knows why (and after the event with cheif it dramatically speeds up) mostly because of the humans and now the humans are considered the flood to them and you can pretty much get what happens after here....

**cheif is basically forced in court after forerunner troops surround him in the city and theres to many he figures out after trying to shoot his way out with kortana.

idea for why the forerunner want to destroythe universe again is for there own selfish needs and just make the WHOLE universe forrunner
