Hey there folks.

I'm about to start the planning process of writing a Halo fanfic which is to be a sequel to Halo 3. Before I start writing, however, I could do with some information to help make it as accurate as I can in line with Halo canon.

Firstly, what is the average life expectancy of a Sangheili male, and how old would you assume Thel 'Vadam is in Earth years as of 2553, when Halo 3 ends? I know he was in the Covenant military in the year 2528.

Secondly, would you agree that the planet the rear half of the Forward Unto Dawn was travelling towards was of Forerunner 'design'?

If you can answer these questions, it would be of great use for the creation of this fanfic. If you don't know the answers, then I will just have to write it and hope I don't fall too far astray.

1. I would assume about 41-45 for Thel's age and about 80-110 (oldest possible) for average lifespan..

2. Yes.

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding

And this time none of you will be left behind

I've heard a lot of speculation about the planet being Forerunner-y. It's possible. I've always wondered how similar it looked to the planet hologram shown on Halo 3's Guardian.

Anywho, if you decide to make it the Forerunner homeworld in your fanfic, keep in mind the planet is...(*miniscule Halo: Cryptum spoiler)*

...inhospitable. Forerunners kinda screwed the planet over when attempting slipspace travel for the first few times, if I remember correctly.

Thanks. Assuming Thel is, let's say, 42 by 2553, he will be 78 in the fanfic. An Elder, I would assume?

And Steel, thanks for the pointer. I had planned to make the planet a harsh environment.

If you don't have the book, I wouldn't mind having a reason to go grab the book and check up the exact details.

I don't own any of the Halo novels, no. Can you remember if the Forerunner planet described was extremely cold, or extremely hot? I couldn't tell much from the brief clip on Halo 3.

Signatures are for squares.

Here's a tip:

Make sure you take Legends, and Evolutions into account when you're writing this. We have insight into some events after Halo 3 now, so make sure things add up properly.

Oh Lord, I haven't seen/read either of them. I shall write it regardless, and if there are any errors relating to canon, I will do my best to rectify them.

If you can read this, that means I'm not a Shaolin monk...

yet.

I would say Elites could very well get really old considering the average human gets 98-142 in the Haloverse, if I remember correctly.

Man is born free but everywhere he is in chains.

I would say that the planet is of Forerunner creation. There is a Marathon symbol in lights on it, which shows up all over forerunner tech (and a little bit of human tech.

  • 02.24.2011 1:37 PM PDT

The planet was supposed to be a reference to Marathon. I don't think it was meant to be anything more than that, however, I think it's perfectly believable that its a forerunner structure.
