Thanks for the update, (and on behalf of the forum sorry for the late reply, we get sleepy here sometimes :/ ) I had heard about this project a while back but had not heard any news from it since. Even though I don't play Dawn of War, I'm sure their community will appreciate it...well as long as it's better then all those incredibly stupid Starcraft Halo mods, those just suck ;)

Now I am the Official Spokesman for the mod, having been given the "Go Ahead" by the mod's leaders.

Ok, it seems people are interested in a release date, and that is reasonable. However, that date is not clear at this moment . . . but I can say we have made great progress in the past few months due in small part to the alliance between my mod and another HALO mod that is working to make a mod for Star Wars: Empire at War (an RTS that is to be released in Feb, '06). Many models have been produced thanks to this mod.

Our coders have been unable to start until recently due to the lack of tools for WA (everyone in the mod has WA, almost, and so does most of our community on the forums). But they can start now, with their release. We had already started coding on DoW basic, but the latest and greatest patch rendered most of it useless.

I understand I have not given you a straight answer, but that's because we just don't have one ourselves. Half of our members are in college (in the UK) while the other half (such as me) are in their Junior or so year in High School, so we're moving at a slow pace, but a somewhat steady one.

All I can say is that it'll take us awhile, unless we get more people. Besides our "solid" base of members, we've had a fair number (including our original leader "Bongo," a modeler or two, texterurs, mappers, concept artists, and the original lead coder) who have just up and left which has hurt us. If any of you want to lend a hand, please do. Granted, we will finish this mod, hopefully sooner than later.

We are doing as much as we can in the free time that we have, so, hopefully we'll be able to get this mod on it feet (or at least a foot) soon. This would mean an internal alpha, in which we'll look for any bugs in the programming, take a few screenshots to keep anyone who is interested happy, and so on. Eventually we'll release a public beta, which may or may not be multiplayer over the internet, it all depends on if we have that part of the coding done, if we need it, or any other factors which may effect that part of the beta.

Overall, something along the lines of what i or darkwraith have said are the only things we can really tell you at the moment... since we have no idea when our coders will finish a first draft...

If anyone is wondering, slix is a long-time member of the mod.

And because of your raised questions, we are spending more time considering (and planning) alphas, betas (internal & public) and so on & so forth. Because of you ( & because, we care) it seems we might be having earlier releases than previously thought - see, the voice of the people can have power! (which is why I'll rule w/an iron fist - and an iron foot - and make 'em mute when I rule the world!) lol.

Well, I'm off to pester my fellow members until I can give a tentative date for at least the internal beta.

Well, why would we give something like that out? Hehehehehehehe . . . "if" we did have that model, there'd be a chance that I would not know, being as how our modelers surprise the rest of the mod team itself. So, even if I did know one way or another, there'd still be a chance I would be wrong . . . . so the answer is perhaps.

As for the models I CAN tell you about, we have finished

UNSC:
-Warthog (or is it the Puma?)
-M808 Scorpion Main Battle Tank
-Pelican
-Human .50 cal turret (infantry carried)
-LongSword Interceptor/Heavy Fighter/Bomber (for animations - w/o being animated yet, I'll get to that later -, and for our Allied Mod)
-loads of buildings (barracks, HQ, armory, Oh My!)
-Pillar of Autumn (we might use it as a crashed vessel, but right now the space worthy version if for the other mod)

Covenant (AKA Ugly Alien Bastards - UABs):
-Covenant Dropship (HALO 1)
-Grunt
-Hunter
-Elite
-Ghost
-Banshee
-Wraith (I think)

I would provide a link, but it appears that I can't find it. However, it is on the mods database website (if any of you have some experience w/mods, you'll know what I'm talking about).

We may have some more models finished, but it seems I can't find them all (having switched forums & websites 2-3 times in the past 9 months does that sometimes).

As you can see, we've made considerable progress in the models department. Our coding has begun for one of the major armies (ie UNSC or UAB - lol . . .), while the other army should have its coding begun sometime in the next 30 days (should is the key word here, guys & gals, ladies and gents).

Nevertheless, we still require some specific aid:
-animators are NEEDED
-mappers are NEEDED
-modelers, texturers (for the moment), and coders are APPRECIATED, but not completely necessary - already have 1+ in each department.
-FX artist is APPRECIATED (we don't have a designated one, but I don't think it's 100% NEEDED for the mod's first release)
-AI programmer would be APPRECIATED (we do not have one, but there are some AI programmers for DoW mods that just DO AI for mods - of course it would be cool to have an in-house one for ourselves, though).

Well . . . that sums up this report. Did I miss anything?

I love dawn of war and winter assault just look at my name tag, its my favorite quote. My question is are the UNSC goeing to be like the imperial guard, space marines, or a mix. Ah yes, an excellant question.

Let me tell you this: the UNSC is being based specifically on the fluff before anything else. That said, they will be . . . to those who need a comparison to DoW armies, a combination of things Imperial. They will shoot rather than melee. DoW was based too much on melee combat, IMHO (not the mods, but just mine), which hopefully won't be true in this mod, although I make no guarentees. The UNSC will not have numbers like the Imperial Guard, nor will they have the staying power of the Space Marines (well, the basic grunts won't. The spartans are a whole entirely different issue). We hope to make tactics, as well as strategy, damn near as important as possible (for those who don't know, one is made before the shooting starts, while the other is where you adapt to changing situations).

Well . . . that didn't answer the question well enough so lemme tack up a list o'things to do so:
UNSC:
-for the first few tiers will be based entirely around the average men and women serving in the UNSC armed forces (Marines, ODSTs, medics, etc.)
-final tier - SPARTANS. Only 3 squads (Blue, Red, Green - Read the books if you can't guess who is in what) w/4-5 spartans in each squad. They will be excellant at infiltrating against the Covenant.
-Marines will fight like IG squads, but w/slightly better training/morale/etc.
-ODSTs much like stormtroopers, although they will deep strike
-Spartans - think a cross of terminators and SM scouts. That's as close as we can get to DoW units, I think.
-tanks - all about delivering firepower where it's needed (Pelicans trash enemy formations as they make a drop; Warthogs speed around shooting everything; the ponderous Scorpion is all about trading blow for blow and being the Prize Fighter afterwards)

So . . . the UNSC will BE a cross between SM & IG mainly because they're human & because of the trend in Sci-Fi games. Hopefully, though, the UNSC will be bringing more to the table than just an amped up clone. In fact, I can promise you that once we're finished 'ere.

Cool this mod sounds great! I'm sure this will be far better than one of those stupid, life-size armies mods for DoW. I can't wait to get a squad of marines to distract the AI while I send in some Kick -BLAM- spartens to destroy the covant HQ!

On behalf of my not-so-humble mod, I thank you for your votes of confidence and only hope that we can deliver a mod worthy of the title HALO. If it doesn't, I personally promise you that I'll kill someone ( andmaybe on Live) or a dozen someones.

Anyways, if you're a member at our site you'd know some VERY interesting tactical data, but if you're not you'll just have to wait awhile for it to go public.

Ok, here's the deal people:
I am a member of a mod dedicated to making a HALO mod for an RTS. That RTS is Dawn of War, one of the most viscereal games you'll see in the RTS genre. We are a small team, but with some very talented people.

Our mod is going to use the expansion, Winter Assault, and perhaps the DoW basic engines to power this mod. We will do our utmost to stay on top of patches, as soon as we make a release.

I am here, as the unofficial spokesman (for the moment), so that you are aware of this mod. We once had another thread, but it is longer available, so I am creating another one. This one. I would like to apologize to the people who posted in that thread for the lack of speaking on my mod's part. I am here not to let it happen again.

And since more people in our mod have got WA now there'll be little holding back, well... i think...


1 of our modellers is taking a break, but its for what he thinks is the better, you know, honing his modelling skills... but it won't slow down production much, we've got the majority of models (well, at least 1's that are vehicles and infantry) built already, the buildings we need to work more on... but other than that everything is going fine...


and i hope you had a merry xmas. hope you all have a good new year, i bet all the ppl @ bungie (or at least those who drink) get rat arsed... lol. i hope you all don't overdo it either... lol.

Well, as Slix mentioned, a modeller of ours, who is just brilliant w/buildings, is taking a break to improve his skills and this will be for the better of all, I think.

But we still need animators and mappers. Very much so, but we'll take any technical support you could offer. Even if it's only temporary like just one model or map or texture or whatever it is you can do. So long as you can do it, and are willing to, we're happy.

lol . . . I've finally found one of the near-mythical mac users! Never seen one before (note: try not to stare!). jk, dude, jk.

Well . . . I'm not sure if DoW works on macs, but I do know that none of the mod users has DoW for the mac, nor do I know if any of us have macs . . . so, sorry, but it's likely you'd be left out even if DoW did work for you (although DoW is still an awesome game which I recommend to all who love viscous combat & pretty good RTS graphics).

Why? Macs are horrible computers unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for the best one there out there. We have a lab full of them at our school, they crash all the time.
