The Most Obvious Use for the "X" Button

MALSH

Dude, Pimps at Sea is like Halo, going 30 knots in a harbour, being chased by clippers and Man-o-war. And the Man-o-war are firing.

Instead of making new models, why not get together witht he HaloGen guys to boost productivity? Of course, C&C Generals models are lower-quality and have far fewer animations though...

Well, we have already done an alliance w/another mod (one for SW: EAW - due out in February), but that . . . has provided some troubles along w/the good (and the help they offered moved over to our mod, anyways). I'm not too sure if we'd be willing to enter into such another alliance . . . and I'm not even sure about our current relationship w/that other mod as of now, due to several events which I'll not bore you with.

And C&C is so dated, right now, especially the game they are using. Hell, soon DoW will be considered ancient at the rate that RTSs are picking up at (used to settle for almost same graphics for each game, but now . . . they're incredible). Besides, from what I know, they have no history with working w/other mods, which leaves no reputation. Which could be good, or bad, or nothing at all. If they were to approach us, we'd be all over that, but they would not have much to gain from us as WE are making models w/much higher polys (2000+ for normal models, 3000-4000+ for the uber units), meaning they'd have to "de-poly" our models, which is really not good (time consuming).

If you, as a supporter of both mods, were to post that on their forums, there would be some possibilities, but I'm not going to suggest anything at all. Although, I might bring it up w/my mod's brass (lol).

Halogen has some great modelers, their models may be low on poly count, but looks fantastic. (or may be their textures are amazing)

anyway, alliance with other mods are both good and bad, i have personally witnessed the bad's of one little thoughtless joke can do between two mods. so it'd be better to stay clear of huge mods.

Hmm . . . yes, HALOGEN's models, or at least the vehicles (infantry - meh, seen better work fromsome mods), are pretty decent, some are great. But, yes, it's usually wise to steer clear of many an alliance. It's best just to have "working relationships", if anything, in my experience.

EDIT: does anyone else have any ideas or thoughts about HALOGEN? I really have no experience w/them, having only looked at their site MAYBE five times, tops, and only at their models and a few other random things. How is it run? Well, anything?

What about the commisar? Will you use his modle as a commander or something? While I'm at this, will there be any sort of exicute command in this Halo mod. I mean, I know there isn't anything like that in Halo, but if your going to make a RTS mod, then you must have some special unit features so there is some ( don't know how to spell it ) stradiy. What can we expect?

My opinion does not matter.

And my opinion tells you to go to hell.

i agree...halogen still looks like a sweet mod tho...those guys are workin hard over there...i guess since everyone else is making a halo rts game, bungie should make it official

anyway...the generals game system is pretty bad with mods, as is its world builder, or i could just be my computer

halogen is run pretty good, its a good setup...but the people on their forums are kinda stuck up and all...and the updates take a while...but watever...its still a good site

Well, you probably have more experience w/HALOGEN yourself, so I'll take your words into consideration.

As to using an "execute" ability, I will have to say no to this. We are doing our best to remain loyal to the background and history of HALO, and there have no field executions in HALO like those done by the Commissar. Well, not in the UNSC. It . . . it might be plausible for an Elite or somefink to do that to Grunts, but that will just be for consideration.

Ok. I was just wondering. I know that there are no exections in Halo but I was just curious about what special abilities units would have. Like rally, or something like that.

Well, the Spartans will be abilities galore. Certain squads will have special anti-tank stuff (right now, it's planned that they'll have something, though), all will have AP/Shedder rounds (bonus damage to infantry and tanks/buildings), minor invulnerability (means their armor will guard them against some damage no matter the Armor Penetration), and more :P

UNSC will have medics, an officer who can call in a Longsword saturation bombing, ODSTs who can deep strike (duh), and some interesting stuff.

For the Covenant, Prophets will provide a bunch of buffs, and certain commanders can call in a precision Orbital Bombardment (to combat the Airstrikes and Saturation bombings available to the UNSC, and it's w/the fluff of HALO).

And so much more

PS: if/when we do the Flood, we intend they'll have the most special abilities because they're lacking in some areas (yes, that means they will be one tough bastard).

Oh sweet I didn't know that you guys might do the flood as a playable race to! I'm guessing they would be modled after the orks? For all the close combat stuff.

Well, we're trying to do unique tech trees for each race, and the Flood remember mimics its opponents albeit with a strong does of melee and ranged inaccuracy and reckless driving (actually, we got to figure out how to implement the reckless driving - suggestions?). Our thought is to give them their basic stuff (all melee) in Tier I; Tier II will introduce some ranged units along with some of their elite units; Tier III will introduce their vehicles and the remaining elites along with their two uber-units (Guess - you probably can guess one, but the other might be a bit tougher).

Remember, the Flood are just in their infant concept form, not even in any of our computers yet (although I have the hard copy - which reminds to send it to Deth, a member who's doing the Flood, once my exams allow time for it . . . ).

But their best thing is their abilities (all passive - as in always active; for the most part). Their abilities hopefully will make them into the nightmare they are.

Any questions? Or suggestions?

Sounds good, but the way you put it, it sounds like the flood would be way hard to beat and therefore unblanced. So what would their weaknesses be? Maybe their basic units execpt for the uber units could have next to no armour like the orks.

Well, they're horribly inaccurate at range. Their vehicles come out late and are really not up to the task of taking out Covenant or UNSC mechanized forces. And they are lacking in armor, but not health or health regenerization.

And remember: the Flood always were some of the toughest foes you were able to fight and their representatives on the Battle Field should show that. But they won't be broken, or anything. At least not in the final version of the mod (first release will be entirely just background based/guessed; second release will be an attempt to fix the balancing issues; and so on).

We never did say when it's going to be out, to answer your question. The truth is, we don't know ourselves, although we are trying to get an internal beta going to see how it runs and then a public beta to get your valuable opinions and suggestions (no sarcasm here - the public is what mods need to succeed and this makes your word invaluable).

Hopefully it will be soon, but I make few or no promises :(

Don't worry, don't worry. We're discussing the possibility of an upcoming beta with our coders. Of course, we'll have to first do an internal beta just to make sure that your PC's won't be getting vaporware or virusware or whatnot (take one for the team! lol), and work out some outragious glitches, errors, and issues. Then it'll be your turn, but it's definite that any beta released soon will be using place holders!

Besides that, we might be getting a new modeler (hopefully), who has other useful skillz along with that, as he has talked to me about his interest in joining, and merely has to talk to Caboose/U1tramarine (the modleader for those who forget) and get approved.

However, we still need mappers, animators, and several other specializations to completely finsish this mod!

Not much for news today, except that Dawn Of War will be receiving a new expansion come fall. The expansion will bring the xenos (aliens) known as the Tau along with another army, unannounced so far. The Tau are famous for their "technosorcery" which rivals that of the mankinds, and in many instances surpasses it.

But this is a HALO forum, so I won't bore you with WarHammer 40k details, as you're either a fan and know what it is, or just want this HALO mod to come out.

Well . . . the forums are also home right now to a small, yet quite interesting debate as to what is the best MMO: WoW (FTW!!!) vs. GW (meh . . . it's free, lol - guess which one I'm for!), so if you're interesting in discussing thsi just stop on by the forums.

BTW, GW= Guild Wars; WoW=World of WarCraft.
