I'd appreciate it if we keep our discussions to the issues at hand (that means mod and its attached articles). And I don't wake up early enough for breakfast. And sometimes lunch, when I can manage it, lol.

Hey DarkWraith I'm glad to see that you are going to contuine with the mod. I can't wait for it and I also can't wait for the expansion. Have you guys made any big progress in the last 2 or 3 weeks because I haven't been on because I have been learning how to mod Dawn of War with the RDN tools.

I just gotta ask...why are you doing this? From my view there doesn't really seem to be much point. I mean theres Halo RTS mods already underway for C&C generals (The known Halogen) , Homeworld 2 and Empire at War...so what makes yours so unique to be released on winter assault?

Not being harsh or anything but I want to know what would really make yours stand out from the others. I guess that each game has its own uniqness in its self that can eb exploited...for example the Empire at war mod would be able to have land and space based Halo battles. But would someone after downloading one of the above mods take the time to download yours just because you can use 'such and such' ability with the games engine?

First of all, the Empire at War mod started a year after the mod I represent did, second it's in the crapper right now, having lost one of its lead modelers (who incidentally was a leader, and is now part of our mod). Next, C&C is a dated engine. Period - Dawn of War continues to be an excellant game with great graphics, and very good physics considering RTS standards. It possesses a capacity for violence that surpasses every RTS that I know of, providing a very good sense of realism where war is considered, and that, my friend, is War is Hell.

Does that answer you questions?

PS: that HW2 mod, I believe, moved from HW2 to EAW (and if I remember right, it's that mod that's not doing too well, right now).

C&C maybe an outdated engine, but thats a point against Dawn of war. My PC can play Generals but not Dawn of war, so theres a much larger audience see?
Although chances are if both mods are mentioned on HBO on their release they will both have phenominal downloads.

Oh and its shame EAW is dieing out, but oh well.

I never said that the EAW mod is dying out, only that it's hit a wall right now due to troubles, and despite my questions I've been left in the dark for the total information regarding that mod's full status and its current relationship with the mod I represent.

As to your PC playing Generals and not DoW, I have to say that's really too bad. Games are becoming more demanding on computers every day, and if you can't play DoW now, it's doubtful you can play many new games, which means you need a new PC, or unfotunately you'll be left in the dust. I'm sorry, but that's just how it is - games need more, but if you don't have more, you can't play 'em.

And if I remember right, the C&C team split (think it's the dev behind EAW), and that means no more expansions to C&C, no new games, nothing. Relic, DoW's dev, is currently working on a NEW expansion. This just means that DoW will improve, while C&C is still sitting there, w/only mods working on it, limited by its dated engine. Dawn of War is newer, and most people who consider themselves gamers will keep their computers powerful enough to run most games, and honestly, RTSs are usually not the most demanding of games.

Moral of the story - keep up with computer gaming demands on your PC! And if you have a Mac, just give up, lol :P

Dude, don't base it from Winter Assault. Use regular 40K. It's so much better.

But I defenitely like the idea, and hope it get's finished (In regular 40K.). :)

HOW is DoW basic better than DoW: WA? We've already made the plans THAT REQUIRE WA, such as the Spartan team being based of the Winter Assault Imperial Guard Command Squad Template, along with other thoughts. Expansions are a real bonus to a great game, and trust me when I say we plan to take full advantage of them.

I know. How can you say that winter assault isn't as good as the originall game? It has more content, fixed errors, and more pottential. Also modding on winter assault is easier, the modding tool version that is used with winter assault is better than the version you must use to mod W40k. I can't wait for the next expansion pack, that will be so sweet.

Thank you for agreeing, hellocookie. Expansions make a great game better in every instance, and this tends to hold true across the board. DoW was a good game, but we've got to keep up with the present, and not stray behind and not follow up on the vast potential of expansions.

If that is meant to be a snub on my part, then screw off. I am representing this mod, and therefore I am obligated to state why we won't be basing the mod off the DoW basic engine. I will not explain it, as I have done so one or more times already here.

And EAW was released recently I hear, for those that are anticipating the epic feel of Star Wars, lol. Star Wars is sooo great . . . just like HALO, :P

EDIT: hmm . . . it seems that post was deleted, well, good riddance to that. =)

Yeah, Star Wars is fun and all, but Halo is just plain amazing. I can't wait for the movie, it's gonna give it to Star Wars from behind. A Halo mod for a RTS is an excellent idea, and I've been waiting for a good one for a long time. I'm just curious, but does the DoW engine support space battles as well as land battles?

I've just been researching EaW and I played the demo, it seems to have fantastic potential for space and ground combat. I've never played DoW so please don't flame me too badly. Hell, if your mod looks cool enough, I might just buy DoW so I can play it.

Sadly, DoW is not space capable like EaW. We'd have to do two different mods, essentially, in order to do both land and space, :( . If we were to do another mod for HALO, it'd likely be on EaW or possibly Company of Heroes (looks amazing - better graphics than many a FPS, lol). But we're committed to doing a DoW HALO mod, and I guess that's that, lol.

DoW is worth it to buy just because of its violent combat. It's only a plus that it has the WarHammer 40k name next to it, :P . It's a great game, and its expansion is full of meatbags, er, bullet soaks, er, that's not it . . . ah yes, "infantrymen" and REALLY BIG tanks. The second expansion will be full of plasma and magnetically accelerated tank-killing metal rounds. Say it with me: "PLASMA". Now isn't that fun? The amount of mods working on it are astounding, especially for me as this was the first game I actually paid any attention to its community besides playing, and usually pwning, online. I really recommend it, but if you want to look elsewhere, go for EaW. Either one will make you happy, I assure you.

Well, any other questions? Hmm . . . the mod still would love to see anyone with technical skills, particularly coding (one coder is without the cash, and has been for awhile, for the 1st expansion), modeling, textures, or maps. Or anything else, as the more input, the better it is. As long as you're not a politician, that is, lol.

think of it as this way:
EaW: okay ground battle + okay space battle + good galactic conquest = 120% good game
DoW: superb ground battle + machine picking people up and amazing animations + tactical cover and negative cover + cheep game = 200% worth the money

EaW is good, but with DoW, you get to focus on the ground battles where you've been fightiing from the first person view.
whereas in space battles, you've only seen them in FMV's, so what's the point of making something you know little about? why not just make a mod on all the stuff you know alot about and make the mod amazing??

Find as in buy? It ought to be fairly simple. Either check the closest few stores for DoW, or, failing that, check a site like Gamestop.com, and it should be easy to acquire. If you're wishing to obtain it less than legally, then I'm afraid I can't help you there, both because of ethics and the fact that I honestly do not know.

ok...how many times is this thread gonna be resurrected? honestly this is about the third time in 2 months ive seen this thread. its there for a day, then gone for about 2 or three weeks. just let it die.

As for the mod. Halogen is looking at being the best halo mod out there. even if it is for generals. c&c is without a doubt the best strategy series out there, this mod will make it better. dawn of war is a good stategy game, but its graphics arent that much better than generals.

it would be made even funnier for all the mods out there if bungie's next game was a halo RTS game. doubtful, but it would be interesting.

rugby_rox, honestly, why are you complaining? This is a mod, and the thread isn't getting bumped for the hell of it, y'know. Nor is it really getting bumped, being how it's never more than a couple weeks between existance. A bump is for something that's a few months dead, and shouldn't be done. I have news, which I'll get to on my own damn time, thank you very much.

Also, how good a PC do you own? Hmm? Because, at high settings, C&C can't compete with DoW's graphics, nor its capabilities (persistant corpses dude - A thousand upon a thousand of the Emperor's enemies will lay at the feet of the Emperor's Finest - EPIC!!! lol). I suggest you give DoW: WA another go, and just see how much better the graphics are, along with the very amusing physics system (special/finishing attacks in melee, explosions, etc. knocking anything and everything around).

And here me, for I bring news! Everyone welcome -58, a fellow modder who has joined the team. He will be creating models for us, and has done other mods in the past, such as a HALO mod for the AOE2 engine based STAR WARS game, Star Wars: Battlegrounds. Hopefully, he will bring great models just as he brings great conversation. Sometimes. lol
