Subject: Achronos' Gift to the Community...

http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/atticus/Group/GroupHome.aspx

So, we were chatting in Moap, as always (irc). And Taz, Butane, Coke, and I were discussing a "No Reply" button. And how nice it would be.

Well, I then mentioned it would be nice for one day, to have Achronos make the "reply" or "submit" buttons vanish when you mouse over them. Then Taz said to just remove em entirely.

We happen to think this would be an awesome christmas gift. For that one day, remove the buttons. Just, a day of peace. The only one ever.

Not only would it promote family togetherness, but the mods could have Christmas off, Achronos too, and all the "forum-cops" as well.

Frankie could even make a story on it, and compare the bandwidth usages and all sortsa neat stuff if it happened.

I dunno, just a thought we had.

Either that, or just shut down b.net for Christmas, but I would at least like to be able to see the site. NOw I think of it though, just turning it off would be nice. a 24 hour period...

You decide!

I spent last Christmas moderating... Maybe we should just ban everyone on the website and set it to expire on the 26th?

I think it wouldn't work. But what the who - I wouldn't mind if for one day Bungie.net forums were in a sense "closed." Take those that don't participate in the holiday - or specific sects of it. I have always enjoyed logging on and exchanging seasons' greetings with others - as long as it takes place in an appropriate location.

Maybe all forums except maybe one could be closed to new topics and replies. A one day blacklisting could create quite a pandemic the next day. Enjoy any festivities.

Shut down the forums for Christmas. That would be a very good thing... very good indeed.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

I agree, I might come to B.net to check some stats on the rare occasion on Christmas, but I don't plan on being in the forums. I think that the people that would plan on being in the forums probably will be up to no good, and I wouldn't want a mod to have to be here to serve out the Christmas banhammers swings. Achronos should just say that is going down for maintenence and to enjoy Christmas, your family, friends, or boozin it up like Yoozel. To each their own.
Merry Christmas, and God bless us every one.

Top idea.

Forums where you CAN'T discuss anything.

I can't see anything good coming from it. The forums come back online? They'll be filled with complaints. I'm positive they weren't as busy on the 25th last year.

  • 12.21.2005 3:41 AM PDT

The thing is Psyched, you (and all other members) have the leisure to just stay away from the forums on Christmas is they wish. The moderators don't necessarily have that option. We have a duty here, and a few of us will believe that we are not doing what Bungie asked us to do if we all take a day off. So, some of us will feel required to show up on Christmas day, even if we don't want to. Temporarily shutting down the forums will be a Christmas present to us.

I know Achronos will never shut down the forums for a day, but it's just a nice thought.

As much as i dream about that happening Nakki and as much as i would love for the moderators to spend the time with their families at christmas, it won't happen. Know why? People get angsty. very angsty.

Come the day when replying is allowed again, there would probably be mass blacklistings and bannings due to people flaming. Although, ultimatly, it's Bungie's site and they can do as they please, it's really not worth the hastle it will cause.

Maybe post a news article about it, then people wont complain as much.

Or just like someone else said, "Pretend" its for maintanance. Not many complain after those usually...

I dunno, everytime someone mentions an idea thats "outrageous" people always claim eveyone will flame over it and such. The Truth is, we cant know that. Its not like it was shut down before on christmas, so its only guesses. I would say give it a shot and shoot for the sky, but Its Achronos' choice.

Chances are, that activity will die down as people spend christmas away from the computer. That will at least be something.

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

It is kind of ridiculous for the mods to have to spend Christmas in front of a computer. This removal of the reply buttons idea sounds pretty damn good. And if people complain about it, tough. It's Bungie's site and they can do whatever they damn well please with it.

Now that is an idea...and it would be cool to see! I have never been banned and do not plan to get so. Although it would be easier just to deactivate the "Submit, Preview, Cancel, & Quote" buttons then re-activate them.

You do know that only one person has called Yoozel "honey" and lived to tell about it, right? And that person was your mother, if I recall correctly... [/cheesy your mom joke]

That sounds like an incredible idea. Not sure how hard it would be, but I would love it. And the mods, I assume, would love not to spend Christmas dealing with morons online. It's much better to do in person at a christmas party or family reunion. =P

I believe that the Moderators deserve a break...they put up with crap all day from arrogant poo heads. But when they became Modz it was their understanding that they would be here 24/7 until the end of time.

Indubidubly. Banana.

Ahh, now that I think of it....Mods go through a lot. Maybe they should have a day off, or 2? To say thanks for their help? I'm not doing anything for Christmas >_>; So if I can't post here, I'll go to GFaq's =p

I would be all for it if Achronos did shut down the forums on the 25th, but I'm not going to be here at all anyway so how can I really care? I'd probably take the day off if I was a moderator too. But whatever.

Yeah, there could be some ambiguous maintenance issue that crops up on the 25th, that might work.
