Subject: Cortana or The Library

Choose other, if you think there's another worst Flood level
Probably one of the Arbiter levels that everyone skipped over when playing through Halo 2.

Cortana 5 is a carbon-based lifeform that frequently visits these forums, currently residing in the United States. Practically every male on the site responds to her posts.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

I raged for days during the Library.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

It's really not even a question. The Library was the most ridiculous level I've played in a Halo game.

I've actually grown to like The Library. It's a very intimidating level to enter, but once you sink into it, it's quite mesmerizing.
It's also not really all that difficult, people. Here's a tip: Don't fight the Flood as if they were Covenant. Think of it more as a combination of dancing and "Doom".
In any case, though, it remains intense and upbeat. Full of action which, despite the repeated terrain, actually maintains a modest degree of variety due to the different ways in which fights are directionally and compositionally stage.
And while it's perhaps a little dark and low-contrast on many screens, it's also kind of beautiful in its own weird way. Its style is very much in-tune with the overall mood.

Cortana on the other hand, not so much. High flood damage and low flood health in Halo 3 means the best way to fight them is to hide somewhere and kill them instantly one-by-one as they get close. It's lethargic and not particularly satisfying.
And unlike The Library, it's stylistically poorly executed insofar as what it should do. What Cortana really needs, artistically, is a good view from an "outdoors" High Charity platform. Compare and contrast, see how things have changed, juxtapose it with Halo 2. Right now, it's just a big gooey mess that's hard to associate with anything aside from the obscured and limiting glimpses you get of various areas. Reminding us better of what the Covenant once was, right after destroying them, would have been a good touch. Ah, the level is full of missed opportunities.

I agree about wishing High Charity in Halo 3 was more recognizable, but at least there's this.

The Library wasn't really as plot important as Cortana so I'll say the Library was worse. Fun to play through though, which is something oddly Cortana was a bit lacking in, but it's never fun when 343 keeps leaving you while he opens a door. Tough call.

I see you

I hate Rupert Murdoch. This may permeate into my posts occasionally

I'd say that the Library was probably the worst in terms of level design, but it holds true to the sort of atmosphere of the Flood as they had been presented so far. The long dark corridors were ominous and spooky and the idea that Flood could jump out at you any moment was very atmospheric. Waiting for spark and then suddenly theres about 10 billion pink dots on your radar is rather worrying, especially on Heroic or Legendary. Frustrating originally, I enjoy playing through it more than Cortana.

Whilst Cortana was a lot more intuitive and varied, I still enjoyed it less than Library. It was interesting to see how the Flood had transformed High Charity, but to me it just didn't fit in. Halo 3 had The Ark (Epic), The Covenant (more Epic) and then Cortana (not Epic). Whereas Halo CE had 343 GS (arguably the best Flood level) and then The Library, followed by a succession of awesome levels, all of which were Flood themed.

Halo 3 chucked in the odd Flood level intermittently, which just didn't seem to make sense.
