Subject: A Rallying Cry for the Halo Lovers

The Halo franchise has begun to take a more and more progressive route, and I fear at the end of this path is an inevitable truth, the end of Halo. I know, its some pretty serious stuff, but if the Halo community is able to responsibly act for a common goal, there still may be time left. We all know what this goal is, to regain the glory of the Halo games that struck fear into the hearts of those at Infinity Ward for the past 8 years. The world of Halo is a beautiful one, and obviously, we have been in a steady decline for the past 2 years. Halo CE was magnificent, Halo 2 was legendary, and Halo 3 has stolen the hearts of millions.

The Halo community is a tightly knit family, and we all have a passion for the game. From the campaign lovers to the MLG Pros, the Halo world has reached out to you in some way, and given us a sample of heaven. Now, in the darker past 2 years, Bungie has crafted 2 games that have chipped away at the integrity of the Halo, these two games are Halo 3: ODST and Halo:Reach. Now, my purpose is not to bash these two games, but to observe an obvious truth. These games are good! They are fun! They are extremely well written and thought out, and I do enjoy playing them! But, Halo is not meant to be characterized by FUN, GOOD, or ENJOYABLE! There is a magic in Halo, a small, perfect spirit that lives in the game, giving it the spark that ignites the hearts of us all. It cannot be explained or deduced, it's there and I will happily let it stay.

This spirit is dying in these new games, and the whole reason why is not completely known. But many aspects of these new games are the culprits. No Master Chief, Armor Effects (Classes) , no DMR, increased power of the weapons, grenade power increase, survivability increase, jump height decrease, new "laggy" graphic feel (hard to explain but the combat in the game is less fluid for me), and finally timed shot necessity. These are all aspects of the new game that are unattractive for me, and the reason is that all these new concepts are found in CALL OF DUTY! I understand bungie's reasoning for this, the Halo's have been too hard of a game for BK Nubs to get good at, and Bungie is just trying to reach a larger crowd. But its obvious that Call of Duty scrubs will always be Call of Duty scrubs, and by making these changes they have "turned off" a vast majority of people who really do love this franchise.

The standard for Halo games is really just so high that to keep it fresh and new over the 10 years has been quite difficult, but that's why you guys are Bungie, the magicians of the video gaming world. Now, as Halo fans, it is our duty to stay true to this game, no matter what. Support everyone/everything on Halo, let your voice and input be heard, just one voice will not influence the world, and pray that things will turn around.

I cant forgive you, but you have my thanks for standing by him at the end, Hard to believe he's dead.

Were it so easy....

DEAD WRONG.

This is just the mid-life of Halo w/a bumby (in most b.net users eyes) but necessary handoff to 343...

343 is in Bungie's old building right now...FrankO is at the helm and the future is bright for Halo and Bungie...

it's the grim b.net forum trolls that need to die...

BANG

P.S.
Just re-reading through that post thoroughly (I skim-read it the first time), I can see that this is one of the most fanboy-fuelled, self-centred "community" threads I've seen to date.
"But, Halo is not meant to be characterized by FUN, GOOD, or ENJOYABLE!"
Uhh..?

I am a practicing traditional Catholic.

Well written and well thought out. I have to disagree with you on some points though.
While the familiar "magic" Halo feel from the trilogy may not have been as present in ODST, it was replaced with a different one that was atmospheric and had an immensely noir feel to it, as was intended.
I also think it was very present for me in Reach.
Perhaps certain aspects will touch some gamers and not others, but for me Reach did it perfectly.
Anyway, other than that I agree that we have to fight for Halo to remain (as it always has been) better and greater than all other games.
As you said, there is a heart to Halo, something that a lot of other "action and explosion" games simply do not have.
The fight is a good one.

Are you refering to the haters or lovers of the game?

  • 02.27.2011 8:53 AM PDT

Eh, I glanced through and noticed you said Reach not having Chief is part of it being bad.

That's when I laughed. Chief does not = halo.

The ones of are responsible for the destruction of that forum.
The infection defiles the forum,we should act quickly to stop the infection or else the disease would spread to other forums like the peaceful HBO and waypoint and we will have a war within our ranks without end.

I think the Forerunner should help us,they are good at stopping that kind of things.

Lol. Anyway, I agree with you that something has to be done. Perhaps people will have to accept that others will differ in opinion and leave it at that.
But it is pretty bad...

ODST was a great game though. ppl hated it because it was over-priced and different. Also there was no competive multiplayer

Those kind of people ruin ours experience with the game and the internet.

I expect that happening when Halo 4 comes, they will destroy the waypoint forums.
But maybe we will stand strong and prevail.

halo is just getting better and better, the great mysteries that the brilliant minds of bungie (joe staten, jason jones etc) wrote back before halo: ce was released, are getting released. we are slowly gaining acess to the halo bible which they wrote, this brilliant universe. cryptum shows the true genius of bungie writing, it totally changed my perceptions of halo! bungie has left their halo bible in good hands.

It's only a matter f time before we get our eyes into Halo 4.I have a feeling that everything was just the beginning and is leading up to something big :))))

Well said chinatownlegend. Well said. Everyday i log onto xbox and ask myself why. Why has bungie done this to me, to everyone who has been loyal to bungie for over 1o years. Many people may know me, a Halo 2 veteran, as Well as Halo 3. I have spen countless hours devoting my saturday nights to playing Halo, but i have to say that im not getting that spark i did from Halo 2 or 3. Halo Reach is going Downhill and those of you who wish to stay with it, be my guest but halo 2 is coming back. The answer to this controversial problem in which Chinatown is stateing could only be fixed one way, the reclemation of Halo 2.

dude that by far is the worst most poorly constructed paragraph that i have ever uncovered with my eyes.

This is directed to the kid who was talking about the Halo Bible

You're first problem was becoming too attached to a franchise. Loyalty only goes so far. LucasArts does questionable things with Star Wars, but I don't get all blubbery about it. I don't flail around my "loyalty" like a flag whenever I'm not satisfied.

Learn how to be unsatisfied with what you get and move on.

  • 02.27.2011 6:49 PM PDT

I thought that Halo 3: ODST was better than Halo 3's in a lot of aspects.

I have. I did not like Borderlands, so I stopped playing. I did not like Soul Caliber IV, so I stopped playing. I've played plenty of games that left me unsatisfied, so I stopped playing them.

I didn't start whining or ask why the respective developers let me down. I stopped playing.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I appreciate it. I agree with ijl hamf, a Halo 2 revival would be amazing. Halo 2 sparked Halo into what it is today, and Bungie made an unbelievable sum of money from it, a win win situation. and DecepticonCobra, starwars is not a videogame based, in movies many new modifications can be accepted. Bungie is changing the core of how we play the game. And that is what upsets me greatly
