Subject: Question about the Sabre

I was just thinking about the top-secret Sabre program on Reach. As far as I remember, in Halo lore Humanity never managed to get basic energy shield prototypes onto ships, and it was only due to the work of their most brilliant scientists working for 20 years that they managed to get the MJOLNIR Spartan suit built from looking at Sangheilli battle suits.

So why would they suddenly have shield-capable fighters? And why, if at that point in the war they had the capabilities to mass-produce shielded ships (or at least had a bunch on hand), did they not try it on their capital ships first?

IMO, the ugly ratio of 3 human ships needing to focus all their fire on 1 Covenant ship is way more important than fighter-to-fighter combat.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

I believe that shielding technology was quoted as not being able to cover even the bridge of a ship, let alone the ship itself.

But, I'd say that the Sabre, and definitely MJOLNIR, are smaller than the bridge of, say, a UNSC Cruiser.
I think the Sabre was just a "Hey, we can go into space for fun" thing, rather than a canon thing. "Top-Secret program" is a bit of a blanket effect for explaining things.
That said, there were hints before the games details were even released that hinted that Six was once a pilot; I wonder if it was meant to be in the canon?

Ah! btmuir's take.
