Friends before pixels.

...Confirm who the little boy was on the first Halo TV spot? When they were talking about if any one was out there ect.

I don't know if it was ever confirmed, but I believe you are meant to assume that it is John.

It would be odd if he were dreaming/hallucinating without being present in said dream.

Huh. I thought it was John, but I always assumed the two had nothing to do with each other.

Just some random earth kid (Buck and Dare I like to think). But it's not Spartan kids. Why? Well because it's on earth.

How do you know it's on Earth though? I mean, it could just be a patch of grass that looks similar. Besides, it couldn't possibly be the same grass. It would have either died or would have been cut.

How do you know it was on earth? And if it is just two random kids, why does the girl turn into a MJOLINR helmet? It seems much more likely that it is something from 117's past he is reliving while knocked unconscious during battle.

Sangheili Major: "Brute ships. Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three-to-one!"

Rtas 'Vadum: "Then it is an even fight. All Cruisers, fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!"

I actually have a strong feeling that it is John and Parisa. Parisa being a childhood friend of his, mentioned in the Halo Evolutions short story, Palace Hotel.
I'm also thinking that means that that little "dream" took place on Eridanus II.

I don't think they ever confirmed it.

I think that it is either Parisa and John or Kelly and John.

I like that idea better than what I originally though, that the kids were John and another Spartan during training.

This is what I think, as it makes the most sense. Or maybe we're all over-thinking this, and it's just some random kids. Who Knows?

They don't have the appearance of Spartan children, I wouldn't say that it is John.

Yeah, one of the early theories was John + Kelly or Linda.

John and Parisa makes more sense, taking place before the training.

This, to the tenth degree.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Most likely John since he was the one that woke up on the battlefield. It's implied that when he blacked out or whatever, that's what he though, or dreamt, of. That's how I look at it, anyway.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't think it was Parisa since she didn't exist at the time. I think its meant to be little ambiguous

Just because the character didn't exist at the time of the advert does not mean that it cannot be said character. In fact the ad itself could have inspired the character's creation and inclusion in the story.

My take on it was just a couple of kids questioning the extraterrestrial. Like, they wanted us to relate to them. The kids have no identity, they were just shells with dialogues of question we ourselves pose very often.

I don't think they're actually characters in the universe, I think they're supposed to be us. Kind of like us asking 'I wonder what the aliens will be like, if we ever see them.', assuming that we'd establish a positive rapport with them. Then the spit hits the fan and we're thrown into a war, and it's as if they're saying in response 'Well, do you still want to meet them, now?!?'. It was quite moving when I first saw it.

Or the character could have been created before that, we simply didn't know about it.

Like Halsey being Miranda's mother.
