Fine, a more specific version:

Covenant non-slipspace capable vehicles from the Bungie Halo games are ghost variants.

Scarab, the only vehicle from the Bungie games that is not named after an apparition, is named after the scarab beetle, something often associated with dead pharaohs.

The UNSC ground/ground support vehicles from the Bungie games are all named after various animals.

Well Gremlin and cyclopes could be a "animal" variant. But I don't know about shortsword.

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Scarab, the only vehicle from the Bungie games that is not named after an apparition, is named after the scarab beetle, something often associated with dead pharaohs.

A scarab could be considered a Supernatural Entity.

"According to ancient Egyptian mythos, the sun (Ra) rolls across the sky each day and transforms bodies and souls. Modeled upon the Scarabaeidae family dung beetle, which rolls dung into a ball for the purposes of eating and laying eggs that are later transformed into larva, the scarab was seen as an earthly symbol of this heavenly cycle."

Yeah, locusts were believed in ancient Egypt to be "Swarms of the gods Vengeance" whilst scarabs were very sacred to the dead.

This could imply a connection between halo and the "Aliens built the pyramids" theory :P

Scarabs are converted mining machines. Thats probably why they aren't named after apparitions.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us...

The Scarab isn't a vehicle. It's a mass of lekgolo worms in a shell, so it's alive, technically.

No, it has bossy passengers.
This also applies to the locusts. Locusts and Scarabs are large super hunters (essentially).

Hey! Are you sure that Scarabs and Locust have Lekgolo in them?
I've never fathomed that before.
If so, it would explain the way the Scarab reacted in Reach's PoA mission.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

In Halo 3, when you go to the "Blow up Scarab here" -spot, you can see the worms. (Orange stuff)

Gremlins and cyclops are still animals, mythical as they may be....

Also keep in mind that for the UNSC there are three categories.

Space and (keyword and) atmosphere capable fighter crafts are named after swords (Longsword, Shortsword, Sabre).

Ground vehicles are named after ground-based animals (Warthog, Mongoose, Scorpion, etc).

Finally planet based assault aircraft and miscellaneous transports are named after flight capable animals (Falcon, Hawk, Pelican, Albatross, etc).

There are some things that can't be classified though such as bumblebee escape pods for example...
