Subject: What system did you like Halo 1 and 2 better on?

Every LAN party I've been to where Halo (1) is a featured game has been on PC's using Custom Edition (CE).

There is no CE version for Xbox, the most widely accepted abbreviations inside the community are PC and CE. Referring to Halo: Combat Evolved PC and Halo: Custom Edition, the Xbox version is just "Halo".

Halo 1 is better to play on Xbox, mainly because the quick port they did left many things incomplete in the PC version. Just look at the shaders.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Just look at the shaders.

The ones that were fixed up by the community and ended up looking better on the PC? Yeah, I see 'em. What about 'em?

By that are you talking about Custom Edition? Or perhaps the use of Eschaton/HMT/HHT etc.? We're talking about the normal game here, not a modded version.

Also in general it's just not right to say:

fixed up by the community

Since when has it ever been needed for the community to do some work for a game? We're judging it by the original format it's in when the actual company that makes it releases it.

Halo 2 on XBlock, coming to XBlock live was like no other, and having fully destructible vehicles was, the graphics looked awesome compared to halo 1 then, I played Halo 2 on XBlock live until the last day the original console supported live. The campaign was awesome, the ending of the game, really killed it a bit, left a bad taste indeed, only because there was a rather very simple boss to kill, which you can easily outsmart by running circles around... But like Halo 1, it brought a really great family/friends feature, getting competitive against your family and friends was always great.

Halo Combat evolved equally for PC and XBlock, only because of the memories when the XBlock was an awesome "super high graphic new revolution in gaming" game system in which I could go against my friends/family on Halo 1. The PC version I near -blam!- myself when it game out, especially since it came out with a full online experience. Then soon after Halo Custom Edition... "HOLY -blam!- I GET TO FLY A JET ON COLDSNAP!" the times...

Halo PC > Halo 2,3,ODST,Reach,Wars....

Halo 3

Halo PC > Halo 2,3,ODST,Reach,Wars....

Halo Campaign was it. You could play some multiplayer with some friends but that's about it. the Online gaming for it blows. You're just one of those classical dudes. You're basically in denial, because the Halo sequels provide much more depth in every aspect (except Campaign. Campaign for CE was THE SHI7) but you don't like to admit. OR you just don't enjoy Halo for the xbox, which would be ironic considering that the Halo series was originally for Xbox.

Halo 3 > Halo 2 > Halo CE > Reach > ODST > Wars (lol)

When it comes to LAN parties and real competitions overall, the Xbox version of Halo: CE was actually more popular.

Because the PC version hadn't even been released. The PC version had a good scene going on for a while.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Halo 1 is better to play on Xbox, mainly because the quick port they did left many things incomplete in the PC version. Just look at the shaders.

What hardware did you run Halo PC on? With an ATI vid card or NVIDIA with a little tweaking the shader effects appear identical as far as I can tell.

  • 03.14.2011 9:57 PM PDT

The Nvidia cards were left out on the "glassy" camo effect making it much harder to see cloaked players as they were just near invisible when using active camo.

The ui menu screen the the sun is missing, they also never properly ported the halo's shadow that you see on xBlock, along with that they never ported the halo's multi properly either. but people have found out that's a very simple fix. The flag poles multi on CTF, also the Assult Rifle are missing their multi, but yet again an easy fix, I'm surprised little things like that were never patched, hell, I would have patched it for them if I was allowed to.

Also the ending on Halo: Combat Evolved was so much more sexy than the PC version, the credits screen I'm referring to, I'm not sure if there are any videos of it on youtube so if you'd like to see it you'd have to beat the game on xBlock.

For the info if you do not know what the multi of these are it's the bitmap used for the "reflections, shine" to determine where to shine apon, although the reflections are actually "cube map" images.

Also as many people realized, the xblock version of the game had a much better FOV, the guns were zoomed out a little more than the PC version and actually animated different depending where you are looking.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

What's with you and "XBlock"?

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

You've never head of it?

OT: I like Halo CE better on the Xbox. I only use the PC version for modding.

  • 03.15.2011 2:11 PM PDT

I like Halo: CE on the PC better than its Xbox counterpart. One, it looks a lot better, and two, there is more multiplayer capabilities on it. Besides, who doesn't love good graphics with anisotropic filtering enabled?

Halo PC graphics, 1024x768, Anistropic Filtering enabled

I just wish Halo 2 Vista had some form of anisotropic filtering enabled; I'm very disappointed in the graphic capabilities of this game, it runs very slow. Even Modern Warfare 2 on this same computer runs a lot smoother and cleaner than H2V.

Halo 2 Vista graphics, high settings, 800x600

The sad part: Halo PC will run on a crappy PC, while H2V requires a high end PC.....and still runs like crap.

  • 03.16.2011 6:27 PM PDT

That's why I just have H2V for the campaign achievements, might as well use it to up my gamerscore.

  • 03.16.2011 10:46 PM PDT

Halo Ce was better on the PC because it had multiplayer.

Yeah, and it's so easy to 1000 it if you use a trainer.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I prefer them both on Xbox because that's where the memories are. I still play Halo PC though and it's awesome.

My linked gamertag is Super MarioBro 3, but I'm better known as Memory... Ignore my linked POS.

Xbox for both... Controls, gameplay, and feel. H2 vista seemed to just not... I don't know... feel like its console counterpart, and CE? Meh...
