May someone help me understand this?
In Halo Evolutions, I believe the story was Headhunter, a Spartan-III wounds an (I think it was by shooting his legs repeatedly, correct me if I am wrong) Elite. Before dying, the Elite says he's not afraid to transcend the Great Journey. However, this implies the Covenant believe they will transcend the Great Journey after they die. But, if that were true, why do we not see mass suicide, multiple species killing themselves so they will obtain a Godlike position by transcending the Great Journey?
This is all based what I know according to Covenant Religion.
They believe that they will only commence the Great Journey once the Halos are activated. I think that it is implied that all those who died in service to the Covenant and its goal will ascend from the grave as well.
Not sure what they believe what happens in the mean time though, if they believe they are conscious of the fact that they are dead or not. If you are not, then from your point of view you would go straight to the afterlife upon death. (Like waking up from a sleep but not remembering your dreams) Regardless, the reason why there are not mass suicides is probably due to an innate fear of death. Also, they can live a life and then go on the Great Journey, or just go on the Great Journey. Many probably choose to live and then go on the afterlife trip.
I am not sure about any of this though. It seems like a plot hole to be honest. I do not think it can be down to worthiness, because then what about the billions of Sangheili civilians that never get into the military? Maybe suicide is frowned upon. (Except in circumstances where they are injured to the point of losing dignity, like Jora.)
