Ok now this may have been brought up before but I'm after some fresh insights.

I have just finished the book Ghosts of Onyx, in my opinion the best book so far and have now picked up Contact Harvest. Now this book is set ages before the first, so obviously no Spartans are present.

My question is, does the story of John, Fred, Kelly etc etc continue or have those books not been created yet? I'm a bit lost really.

Karen Traviss is writing a series of books set after GoO/Halo 3. We haven't seen the last of the Spartans.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens. I hope she can continue the excellent work of Nylund in a reasonable fashion.

As am I. I can't wait to see how Halsey and Blue Team get out of the Dyson Sphere, or if there are any Forerunner survivors in there. Hurry up and finish them!!!

Have you guys read Contact Harvest? Is it any good, I've heard mixed reviews.

I like Contact Harvest. In my opinion it had the best character development so far but I won't spoil it for you. I also liked seeing the beginning of the war from the perspective of both sides. Its a good read.

I thought it was decent. Not the best of the bunch (I really like the Nylund novels, so I am a bit biased). Still a good read though.

Awesome, cheers for the input. What about Cole Protecol. I am yet to even obtain this book. Is it worth getting?

Again, I like this one. It's got some great insight into some of the cooler characters; Keyes, Thel (Arbiter) as well as an interesting alliance with some Jackals and Innies and Spartan Grey Team kicking all kinds of ass.

IMHO Cole Protocol is the worst of the series. The time line is a little (or a lot) screwy including a gray team that exists behind enemy lines (and I think exists even before Halsey started the Spartan II project...)

But it does give interesting insights into the Prophets and their separate and unique wills

Eh. Cole Protocol bored that crap out of me. I honestly think it's the weaker book of the bunch.

I might be biased, but I think Nylund did the best work. Though Evolutions had some pretty great stories. Dirt, Headhunters, Human Weakness and The Impossible Life and the Possible Death of Preston J. Cole were my favorites.

Here's to hoping that Karen Traviss does a decent job with the events after the Human/Covenant War.

I thought human weakness was rather good. One of the better stories in the collection, but I've heard bad things about her work in Starwars, so we shall see.

Contact Harvest is probably my favourite (halo) book. Is Stanten doing a follow up, or too busy (he's with 343 studios right?)?

Edit: Also Cole Protocole is the weakest of the books. Well apart from the Flood, but that was honestly one of the worst books I've had the pleasure of reading. Not here, just fullstop.

i thought harvest was good. we didn't really know why the covenant went to war with us before.

Logic and Reason over Religion.

I just can't get through the Cole Protocol. It is a boring book. but i did read Ghosts of Onyx and really like that one. They all give fresh perspectives that the games can't deliver which is nice.

I guess this means that the quality is directly related to whether there are training scenes in the book.

Harvest, Reach, Ghosts = the top three.

In Halo Evolutions: The top three are Dirt, Life/Death Admiral Cole, and Human Weakness. (alright two out of three ain't bad).

Worst: Flood, First Strike, and Cole Protocole.

Though given this seems to be turning into a general book thread, anyone read Cryptum? Any good?

Same here. Didn't it have something to do with the canon and the Mandalorians? Or am I completely off-base with this one? Lol.

Haven't read it and have no real interest in it but from what I gather by just looking around the Universe forum, it's a pretty amazing book. Plus it's been on the New York Time's best-seller list for how many weeks now?

Really? I've heard nothing but praise for her work on the Mandalorians in Star Wars :/

The only thing I've heard about Travis' work with the Mandalorians and Star Wars canon is the big stink George Lucas raised by -blam!-ing up his own canon in the new cartoon series by trying to make the Mandalorians pacifists O_o Which is total ass -blam!- and opposite to what they're supposed to be, I honestly don't know Lucas is smoking these days to make him mess up his own story so much -.-

I trust Karen Traviss' work. She hasn't failed yet.

I know, I love the book Mandos a helluva lot more than the friggin' cartoon Mandos. Lucasfilm is supposed to be doing something to remedy that, but I seriously lack faith in their story writing.

I pretty much lost faith in George Lucas after the Prequels, I mean they weren't God awful, but they're not as good as the Original Trilogy, they even kinda contradict it somewhat.

As far I've read on Wookiepedia and the like, it would seem it's already somewhat fixed and the Fakes (I simply will not call those corruptors Mandalorians) lose power and die off, giving way to the Mandalorian Protectors and Mandalore the Resurrector. I don't know when the Fakes fall out of favor and power though. In the meantime, I say, GO DEATHWATCH!!!!!!! >:) MUAHAHA
