I do not fear death, in view of the fact that I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it. ~ Mark Twain

Every Halo takes less skill than the one that came before it.
Halo 2 takes no skill, try again.
To me, what it ultimately boils down to is how easy it is to rank up in Halo 3. It's not too difficult to get to a 40 in a day or two. In Halo 2, it was extremely hard to get to a 40 after playing for a year or two. The people that are good at Halo 3 are good, but it's not like they were insane at it. The people that were really good at Halo 2 were actually really, really good. Halo 3 was just way too easy, in my opinion. You could actually be in the 20's and be playing really good people, but the people in the 20's in Halo 3 were just god awful. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the game wasn't designed to require more skill, but it really took a lot more skill.
Also, I think Halo CE took the most skill.
What you're talking about is the ranking system. Although I don't disagree with your statement about how H2's showcased skill better, it doesn't mean the game itself required more skill. It might well have, but it's not the rank system that shows that.
Also, with H3, people got better as you moved up in skill, even if 40's were bad, they were better than 30's. That's an effective skill system.
