I was thinking about this the other day, and that the Spartan program is a lot like Ender's Game.

Can't blame Bungie though, the Ender series is -blam!- amazing

I never even noticed that... and I've been a fan of both for quite a while.

If you think about it, yeah. Kelly is kinda like petra, bean like sam.

And Ender's Game is based on the culture of the Greek Spartans, in part.

Everything takes inspiration from somewhere. Very little is truly original, when you get to the crux of it.

When you take the thought in that everything in modern day was based on something in the past, it just blows my mind that the people back then made everything from scratch. most people today couldn't do that, despite how simple technology was back then.

To me Ender and John are quite different. The only similarities I see would be extensive training as children, leadership traits, and saving everyone from a galactic disaster.

You know you are running a hard course when your ears pop during the meet.-me

Yeah, they are both about kids being trained for war. But it's a really good concept, kids being trained for war at an early age while they still soak up knowledge. And the science fiction genre has a lot of other repeated story ideas. Guys in mech armor and dropping in from space ODST style date back to Starship Troopers by Heinlen.

Is it ironic that the Halo novels are based on a game, but it's Ender's Game that has video games central to the plot? lol

I did a write up about this, they do have a lot of similarities. I do think Bungie referenced them a lot.

grabbed from childhood by the government to save the world from alien creatures bent on ruling the galaxy. How dissimilar.
Love that Ender's Game. Not got past the second novel about Bean.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I loved Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. I guess there are some similarities, but, to be honest, I don't really think it's a lot like Ender's Game. Maybe a little, but nothing more.
