Alright so my basic understanding is that the UEG is the government, the UNSC is it's scientific and military branch, and that the CAA is the branch that deals with colonial affairs. Then during the Human-Covenant war the UNSC took emergency control of the government. Is this fairly accurate?

And what type of the government was the UEG? From what I can understand it runs a democratic republic like the modern day United States, with each colony effectively acting as a state. If this is the case, why did so many people rebel? What were their reasons?

i would imagine the rebellion stemmed from the UNSC taking over the government.

But it seems like the UNSC took over during the Human-Covenant war and the rebellion started before.

Think the American revolution. Overly strong taxes which don't get fed back into the colonies, centralised administration/governance and distinct coloial identities.

The CAA was taxing heavy, which on top of that you had to pay taxes to the UEG, which also goes to the UNSC, so the taxes had to be high.

I am a monument to all your sins

The insurrectionists felt that the UNSC and in extent the UEG was unable to meet their colonies' unique needs, so they rebelled in an attempt to gain independence. They were in some ways justified in this, but their use of terrorist tactics greatly damages their credibility, and shows that they don't deserve independence
