What a waste....

Mendicant Bias was a Contender class Forerunner AI. The most powerful of his kind. Why was he so powerful, you ask? Well, the answer is simple. MB had the powers of a normal AI, PLUS the mind of a living being. Which living being? The Didact? The Master Builder?

No. The Precursor Prisoner.

Why didn't the Forerunners just kill this beast on sight? Because they wanted to use it in an AI. The Precursor made the Flood(probably), so this guy should know all about it, right? And so, they did. If you read Contact Harvest, you know the part where Sif is talking about combing her hair. Each AI retains something from its maker's memory. My guess is that MB retained the part of the Prisoner's mind about killing all Forerunners. Thus, he allied with the Flood and attempted to kill the Forerunners.

"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

Because the precursor was inside a pod made of precursor material and we all know the forerunner can't destroy it unless they use the rings.

I don't think they made Bias of the mind of the precursor. How would they even do it if the prisoner was inside an impenetrable pod

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

Interesting theory, but as the guy above stated, physical contact with the creature was impossible until the firing of the halos.

Also, in Halo: Evolutions, Gravemind pities Cortana for being a false AI. He stated, "You are not even a machine. You are only an abstraction. A set of calculations from another mind. A trick." This points toward Forerunner ancillas/AI to not being based off an organic mind.

What a waste....

As Bornstellar says, though:

The Didact did not accept miracles, but didn't hesitate to take advantage of them.

Same goes for AI, I would think.

Also, couldn't they just scan his brain from outside?
