Chapter I: Where's my Coffee?

"Hey, boss. Wake up," said a voice, but James couldn't place it; it was too damn early for his head to work. He opened his eyes to see a tall man with a slightly-shaved goatee wearing a navy-blue shirt with a white Gauntlet on his chest. "What the hell do you want?" asked James, who was still half-conscious from sleep.

"Well," said Dejeil. "Someone's waking up on the wrong side of the bed."

James finally woke up; he started to get out of bed. Dejeil said, "Captain wants to-"

"Coffee."

"What, coffee?"

James checked the cabinets of the room, scouring every inch for coffee. Dejeil said, "Delta drank the last of the coffee,"

James stopped looking, "Delta drank the last of the coffee?!"

Dejeil shrugged, "Yah. She had the rest when she woke up,"

"Why did you let her have it?"

"It was already gone when I woke up. Besides, I don't run on coffee like you two. But since you have no reason to ignore me now, Captain wants you."

James thought about it for a second and then went over to his drawer. He took out his standard outfit and started to get dressed; including navy-blue shirt with a white Gauntlet the standard shirt for his team. Another part was blue camouflage pants with white letters spelling UNSC.
"Hey Dejeil," James asked. "Where's Delta and Twitch?"

"Delta's probably help calibrate the ship's coordinates; Twitch, hell if I know."

* * *

The Field Marshall walked down the hall, passing pairs of glowing-armor wearing Sangheili Honor Guardsmen, each holding a luminescent Energy Stave. The Guardsmen gestured nothing to the Field Marshall, and neither did he. As the Field Marshall at last arrived to the door at the end of the hall, an Honor Guard said, "Halt. None may speak the Prophet of Truth,"

The Field Marshall said, "I have been invited, Honor Guardsman."

"The High Prophet had not spoken of you,"

"Perhaps the High Prophet has been too busy to tell you of my arrival, Honor Guardsmen."

"Uh" The Honor Guard grinded the teeth of his mandibles; the Field Marshall looked into the Guard's eyes, and it surprised him. The Sangheili Zealot commander had successfully confused one of the Honor Guardsmen of the High Charity.

Another Honor Guard emerged from the door; he appeared to be the captain. "Stand down; High Prophet Truth wishes to speak to this one," The two guardsmen in front of the Field Marshall glanced at one other, and stepped aside. The Field Marshall gestured, walking forward into the door.

The Field Marshall entered the council hall; he saw many empty seats, but some were filled by several remaining councilors both Sangheili and Prophet alike. They appeared to be off-duty, as most of the Sangheili did not wear their ceremonial armor; but instead conformable clothing.

The Field Marshall heard a voice down the hall, "High Prophet of Truth, surely you understand the importance of soldiers of the front lines," Before the Prophet of Truth, stood a golden-armored Sangheili General; an anomaly among the councilors wearing night-clothes.

"Noble Hierarch," continued the General. "If there was more funding for the military, the human filth would be eradicated faster-"

"Silence, General!" commanded Truth. "I have more important business to deal with than worry about your funding!" Truth cocked his head to see the Field Marshall. "Ah, Field Marshall - I am glad you are here."

The General attempted to continue, "But noble one!"

Truth frowned, and growled lowly; and the Sangheili General read the visual cues. "I apologize, Noble One. I will take my leave" The General walked past the Field Marshall, bumping into him on the way out; the latter growled lowly.

As the General left the room, Truth spoke, "Field Marshall, we've been awaiting your arrival. Please step forward,"

The Field Marshall said, "You summoned me, Lord Truth."

"Yes," said Truth. "I needed to speak to you,"
